We are planning a trip to WDW in May for the opening of the new Star Wars movie and a Star Wars weekend. Has anyone had any experience with opening night at the Downtown Disney AMC theaters during the last two Star Wars movie openings? Do they do anything special? We have done Star Wars weekends at MGM once and relly enjoyed it. I figure it will be pretty special since the saga will be complete.

We're thinking of doing exactly the same thing! I don't want to do it on a "park day", so thought it would be fun if we could catch it on arrival day/night...I just wonder how early you'd have to buy the tickets...

We have bought out advance tickets on AMC's web sight and picked them up at the theater. My daughter and I are really excited to do the same thing you are talking about. The problem will be how early you have to line up to get in the big digital theater at AMC 24.

My husband and I are doing the same thing!! We are flying down on May 11th and staying through the 22nd!

"Revenge of the Sith" (the last of the Star Wars films) is expected to be released on May 19, 2005. This is a huge deal to my DS8 and I just can't decide if combining it with WDW is good or not...mainly because my son's somewhat over-excitable to begin with!:hyper:

Last of the Star Wars movies...hmmmm don't count on it. They signed the guy who plays Chewy for 3 more movies. Remember they are making part 3. They still have 7,8, and 9 to go.

crow11ad - Is this really true? Because I saw George Lucas deny it in an interview.

He originally planned to do nine. That is a lot of movies. K think he just got tired of making them. There ar rumors that he will do more, however, Lucas has said that this will be the last one. Kind of a bummer to go out with Episode 3, which is a dark movie. Hope to see you there this May.

If this is true (above), then whey did they sign chewy to do 3 more movies?

I would make sure that there will be a Star Wars Weekend in 2005. I know in 2002 when Attack of the Clones came out there was no Star Wars Weekend that year. I think they didn't hold it because of the Lucasfilm holds a Star Wars convention called Star Wars Celebration and Lucas didn't allow SWWeekends because it would compete with Celebration.

Granted I could be wrong and there will be a Star Wars Weekend this year, I haven't checked yet but going by the 2002 there will not be a Star Wars Weekend in 2005.

Yeah, I think you may be right about an official Star Wars weekend at WDW---I was just planning on seeing the premiere of the film as part of the vacation. Actually, we're going to be at the Celebration III event in Indianpolis in April...talk about crowds!!!

I was thinking the same thing about the cancelled star wars weekend. Darn it, this year we were going to take the kids for the star wars weekend since they missed it last time DH and I went by ourselves. Well we can always hope. We were there for an opening of a Harry Potter movie and there were people in line dressed in character. It was fun.
