Star Wars Weekends 2011

Doers anyone have any more information about announcement dates? Last year SWWs were announced on Dec 22!

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2009/12/star-wars-weekends-2010-dates-announced/

The year before, it was January 28. I'm waiting on flights and DVC point rentals until we're sure of the dates, but I already have ADRs for the target weekend. Since Disney requires so much advance planning for ADRs, this is really annoying. :sad1:

I agree that it is very annoying to not know & thus not be able to plan more than a few months out. Surely they have been working on this years line up for months now. Hopefully we will know something soon. :surfweb:

Exactly; it isn't like they don't know people are waiting eagerly, ESPECIALLY with Star Tours II this year!!! :3dglasses I have to book airfare before the end of the month because some AirTran rewards credits will begin expiring... I also keep watching the cheapest seats ($92 each way currently) for the non-rewards tix to make sure they don't run out. I'll be in a tough spot trying to decide if I buy or not should either get close and official dates aren't out yet!

:yoda: How many Jedi's does it take to change a lightbulb?

:darth: How many?

:yoda: One...if the Force is with him!

:chewy: That's totally stupid.

:teeth:

Are there any big celebrities rumored to be there this year? I thought maybe because of Star Tours opening and the release of Star wars on Blu Ray... Maybe its wishful thinking.:goodvibes

Has the Blu Ray release date been announced? I missed/forgot that was this year; been too obsessed with DHS related SW stuff! :rotfl:

Magical Mountain is posting May 20, 2011 as the opening of SWW. Wonder if they actually heard that information EXACTLY as I quote below or if they are just assuming it since the article is mainly about the opening of ST:II...

Meg Crofton, the President of Walt Disney World Resort, said that "Star Tours 2: The Adventure Continues in 3D" is slated to open May 20, 2011 and will launch "the new Star Wars Weekends" at the Walt Disney World Resort.

I am freaking out a bit because Touring Plans notes Star Wars weekends as May 20-22, May 27-29, and June 10-12. June 3-5 they just list as Gay Days. Disney has NEVER done it like that before and I pray it is just a mistake as we were planning to be at Disney that weekend for Star Wars. UGH!!!!!!!! Disney - just make the official announcement about Star Wars weekends! It is killing me!!!!!!!!!!!

We went last year and I actually got to meet Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and he was every bit as tall as I expected! We (DS23 and I) hope to meet another actor this year IF we get the right dates. The rest of the family wants to do MK that day so it may just be the two of us, lol!!

Yeah, I know the feeling. I keep watching airfare climb every week or two and worse fear the flights I want may fill up! :scared1:

Looks like May 20 will be the start date according to Meg Crofton's statement. I got this statement from: http://www.magicalmountain.net/disn...e-announced-for-disney-hollywood-studios.ashx. I hope this is correct!

Here's the text from the article:

Lets hope it starts the weekend of the 20th. I just got $99.00 flights. :cool1:

Meh. I adore SWW and I am sick over not going this year, but we're going to Legoland & WDW for Christmas, so I just can't justify another trip. Yet.

If I knew exactly when, I could get in some subtle plotting...

Question for SWW vets - how crowded do you think Star Tours is going to be? I have never been to Disney during SWW before so I have no idea what to expect.

We're planning to go to DHS on Friday, June 3 and I'm wondering how bad the lines are going to be. On one hand, it's a SWW and Star Tours will be completely overhauled. On the other hand, DHS is the designated park that day for Gay Days, which Tour Guide Mike says will mean lower crowds than usual.

What do you all think? Will we need to get fastpasses for Star Tours first thing, or can we keep our usual routine of riding ToT five times in a row? :)

I called the other day to make some changes to my reservation (5/28-6/5) and the CM mentioned that I should make sure to get over to DHS for Star Wars, it would be on for both weekends that I'm there.

So, Meg Crofton just announced that Star Tours 2 would open from refurb on May 20, "just in time for Star Wars Weekends". But they still haven't announced official dates. I am planning on going June 9-15, and I'm seeing some great airfares. How comfortable would YOU all be at this point with SWW being on the weekend of June 11-13? Do you think I'm safe assuming that will be one of the weekends? Does anyone have any idea how much longer they're going to wait to announce? TIA for any and all info!

Typically, Star Tours is very crowded during the day when the actual SWW festivities are going on. In the evening, it is usually walk on. This year, with the overhaul, I'm not sure what to expect. I would be safe and get the fastpasses.

In the evening, it is usually walk on.

So in the past after Hyperspace Hoopla it was an easy ride? Interesting...

I still plan to try and grab a FP for it first thing in the morning on the 20th! :cool2: After I see the lines I may run away scared though, ya' never know. ;)
