Star Wars Weekend Trip Report--updated with new pictures from Sunday May 21st!

bjakmom -- I do have the event schedule, I will certainly post it tomorrow. I don't have a scanner so I'll have to take individual pictures of it, but I will get it on here.

I've got tons of pictures of the talk show, and although it will be different celebs for your week, you can get an idea of the stage and such.

We also went this morning with the idea to get Rick McCallums autograph, somthing we passed up the other day...but that didn't work out, but more on that tomorrow too....I promise I'll get the trip report with new pics up tomorrow night.

Thanks, Belle Amy, but I can save you the trouble - found the schedule posted over on Deb's site: http://www.allearsnet.com/ :thumbsup2 There is also a copy of the merchandise form for those who were looking for it - they are with the new pics.

Thank you for so many pics, DS loved them. We will be going to SW weekends next year for DH and DS. They're gonna love it. Maybe DS can do a little Jedi training which he would love

Hi AmyBelle,
enjoyed your report and pics....we were there at the same time and I have a favor to ask you......my son was in the parade on the 19th.....I didn't see him in the picture you posted but I can see myself in the parents behind the kids......if you have any other pics of the kids in that parade would you please post or email to me......since my son and I were alone that day the only pics I have are of the back of his head (1 adult per child has to walk behind the kids).

I'm looking forward to your report on the 21st......we were that day as well.....but we only did the kid-oriented stuff and missed WWTBAM, the talkshow etc. so I've really enjoyed reading about your trip.

Thank you!! :chewy: :darth:

Of course I will check, I already looked at the ones I have online, and I only uploaded 1 pic of the padawans...I think I have one more, but it may be from the back as well...but it's saved on my home computer...I'll post it either way and see if it helps you out!

Second day of Star Wars Weekends, coming up.

Sunday we woke up a little late, because when sleep calls you can't deny it.

We got to the park at 9:15 and were stopped by a CM at the gate who wanted to ask us survey questions. We went along with this, thinking we'd perhaps get something fancy out of the deal. But it was not to be.

Our plans for the day included getting a fast pass for Rick McCallum, checking out WWTBAM, and seeing the talk show again.

Our first plan was foiled. By the time we got to the line, the CM's were removing the signs for Rick McCallum. Amy sad.

After I threw an internal tantrum, we made our way back to the first showing of WWTBAM. We made it in perfect time and were seated immediately.

I tried to take some pictures of Warrick Davis this time, but I think Disney has sonic disrupters that make it impossible to record anything during the show.

Here is a blurry Warrick Davis.

PA160003.jpg

Again, he was witty and wonderful, saying that he should have brought his video game as the contestants didn't need his help. During one of the breaks when the host checks the leader board, one of the stage hands brought Warrick the comics from the Sunday paper. He proceeded to read them as though he were sitting in a room alone. Good stuff.

Neither of the contestants from this show made it past 32,000. But this did win them a Darth Tater toy. I'm jealous.

After the show, we went and grabbed some beers from Min and Bills dockside diner, and found a spot for the parade.

We ran into Kit Fisto on the way. Three young boys were thrilled that Kit Fisto touched them on the head. They met a real jedi!!

Many a parade picture.

After the parade we went back to get in line for WWTBAM, the second and final Star Wars edition of the day.

This time, we sat down where we were guaranteed to be on screen again. Not by choice.

During the second show, when R2-D2 is the returning guest, his friend in the audience is an Ewok. Who happened to be sitting in front of me. The chair next to me was saved for the Ewoks "handler".

It was cute watching little kids come up to the Ewok to get hugs and pictures.

PA160059.jpg

Brian started talking about Battlefront and how much he enjoys shooting the Ewoks when playing the Endor level. The Ewok in front of us overheard him saying this and turned around shaking his fist at Brian.

I was laughing too hard to take a picture, but I managed to get one of Brian's red face afterwards.

PA160060.jpg

He was unaware he was talking so loud. Good times.

After the second WWTBAM, we decided to check out the trivia trial sign up. When we walked up, there were only two standby positions open. I had decided that I would get up on stage with Brian. That is, until some rude guy walked up and took my spot.

He came up out of no where, stuck his arm out for the wristband, and looked over at me and said, "Looks like you were too late." and walked away.

I have some choice words for him. But I'll keep that to myself.

Brian managed to get his wristband, and that was all that really mattered. He is much dorkier than I am, so it might as well be him. And I mean that in the best sense of the word.

Next up, the talk show, new and improved!!

Next was the talk show. The waiting area is under roof and has a bunch of TV's that are playing every Star Wars movie trailer ever known to man.

PA160132.jpg

It's creepy to see a trailer for the original Star Wars that was hyped as a love story between Luke and Leia. Brian and I scream what we do every time there is an interaction between the two.

"Ewww, she's your sister!!" We scream.

We get inside the talk show, Stars of the Saga, and sit through the funny stormtrooper schtick. Some pictures.

PA160106.jpg

Then Rick McCallum came out. New this show, Warrick hands Rick a cigar and some stacks of money (which turned out to be Disney Dollars and Peter Mayhew kept trying to pry into the packs) to see what exactly he does as a producer.

PA160113.jpg

PA160117.jpg

Warrick tells him to hang on, he's going to get him a script. He goes behind the couch and comes out dressed like this.

PA160120.jpg

As George Lucas, he hands him the script.

Later, he does the same Indiana Davis thing, but this time, a stage hand comes out and rolls a boulder after him. Sooooo funny.

PA160123.jpg

Then Warrick mentions that Rick used to be a stuntman, and suggests that he try the boulder skit.

Warrick rolls the boulder and Rick watches as it rolls by him. Laughter from the audience.

PA160124.jpg

Next it is Q and A time.

Rick is asked about Star Wars being released in 3-D in the theaters.

He explains that they are very eager to release all 6 movies in this format, but it is up to theater owners to get the theaters up to standards. He mentions that he as a producer spends so much time and money making the soundtrack perfect and then the movie can be played in a sub-par theater. Without theaters continually updating their systems, the movie industry can not progress. People will just wait for the DVD in their home theater. They want to release the 3-D editions when at least half of the theaters in the country have upgraded to digital screens.

Next he is asked whether or not Boba Fett will be in the upcoming television show, and whether Daniel Logan will be playing him.

Rick smiles and shakes his head. "Wow, that is not a fair question. Well, I'll be bold. The answer is yes." The crowd goes wild. But he continues. "To one of the questions." The crowd groans. But it wasn't hard to figure out which question he had answered.

Next, Rick is asked if Palpatine actually created Anakin.

"I think so. My answer is yes, but George says no. I think it's something that will be explored further in the television show as well."

Next, Warrick Davis announced that this was Rick's first Star Wars Weekends at Disney, and because of this he was officially inducted into the Disney family. But Warrick didn't have the authority to do it.

Out came Jedi Mickey. This is Rick and Mickey bowing to each other.

PA160126.jpg

PA160127.jpg

The crowd went wild. This was the best part of the day.

After the show, we stopped by the bathroom. We hung around for a little, because I was hoping against hope that Rick McCallum would come that way again. But I didn't get that lucky.

We made our way over to the Tune-in Lounge and had a couple beers before Brian's trivia debut.

Brian had to show up at registration 20 minutes before the show started to see if he had a spot on stage.

We wandered over to the sign up booth and I sat in the shade while he checked in. As I was sitting there, I was spotted by my first Diser in the park. Worm761, Angela, walked by and saw my green Mickey head pin.

She walked up and said "Are you a Diser?"

Forgive me, but it took me a second to realize what she had said. Sorry Angela if it looked like I thought you were speaking Gungan.

I realized that she was a fellow Diser and we talked for a bit. Her son sat down next to me to get some shade. He was adorable, and a budding photographer. He even got a picture of me. I hope he captured my essence.

It was time for the trivia challenge. I grabbed the camera from Brian before he went backstage. I waited in the waiting area until the doors opened, and went inside the theater. I sat directly in front of where Brian stood on the stage and tried to take some pictures.

PA160134.jpg

PA160133.jpg

It was at this point the camera died. I swear there is something wrong with it.

Brian was my hero on stage and I was so proud of him. He unfortunately didn't make it into the final few. But I yelled and clapped for every right answer. There is always next weekend.

After the trivia challenge we were done with Star Wars for the day.

Our second day at Star Wars Weekends was better than the first. Each experience has yielded many different picture opportunities and daily events were different each day, which makes for new jokes and good times.

Can't wait for next weeks celebrities!! Hopefully Brian will do better in the trivia. I could use some free Star Wars swag

Now I'm regretting booking for November instead of this month like we'd originally considered! There's always next trip. :goodvibes

Have loved reading your reports Belle Amy- and great pics! :thumbsup2 We will be going to our first SWW on June 10th, i'm so excited! Just wondering bout the Trivia Trials, just how hard are the questions? :confused3 Do you really have to know your stuff? My bf really loves the movies but doesnt really know too much about the actors etc, just wandering how difficult it is coz i want him to have a go but he doesn't want to embarrass himself!! We're gonna be playing Trivial Pursuit Star Wars Edt for practice a few times b4 we go!! :teeth:

That's exactly what we always do before we go!!!

Last year it helped out because a lot of the questions were taken directly from there.

This year, I think I only heard one question from Trivial Pursuit.

The way the Trivia Trials work, there are three rounds.

The Wookie round, which everyone is given flash card kinda things, with A, B, and C. The questions are multiple choice, and Warrick Davis asks the question twice and then contestants have to hold their card up above their head. The questions start really easy, and progressively get harder.

Brian got knocked out the question before the next round.

They showed a picture of a city and asked which one it was. The choices were Mos Espa, Mos Eisley and Anchorhead. He thought it was Mos Eisley, but it was Mos Espa. It was tough, I actually had to look it up online to understand.

Anyway, the second round is the Hyperspace round.

Each contestant is handed a dry erase board and they have to write down the answer and then hold it above their heads.

These questions get pretty tough. They ask for specific names of people, and while spelling doesn't count as long as it looks close, it is tough.

After it is down to less than 5 people, they go into the final round, which I think is the Sudden Death Star Round. It's the same as the last round, but contestants have less time to answer.

One that Brian knew that no one onstage did was What does Anakin's friend say he will become if he keeps podracing?

Answer. Bug Squash.

One guy on stage wrote something simliar but it wasn't correct. Everyone stayed on stage.

During our first time seeing this, the questions remained pretty easy, but people got knocked out quickly.

The second showing, the questions became pretty tough.

What we try to do usually is study the obscure names of people. They ask a lot of questions regarding the vast amount of Imperial Admirals and their names and random characters like Sio Bibble and Mas Ameeda. That's what I would suggest studying, but you never know.

They seem to keep away from production questions as well. Which is always good for us, as we don't know much about where a particular scene was filmed and what watt lightbulb was used for what scene.

We did overhear that the prize for second place was the remote controled R2-D2 unit that responds to your voice. It's on sale for 75 dollars at Tatooine Traders. What the other prizes are, we've never found out.

Good luck, we'll more than likely be there on the 10th, so maybe we'll see you!!

Wow Amy thanks for all the info!! Thats a great help, we're digging out the trivial pursuit in a min! and Pete's got a few days off work next week so we're gonna have a marathon of the movies!! So i'l take your advice and concentrate on the funny names and places - thanks! R u going every weekend? Lucky you for living so close to WDW! :sunny:

We were at SWW on Friday. A couple of notes. First, you absolutely MUST know to go get your Fast Passes if you want to meet 'n greet because it's not posted anywhere, and they ran out at about 9:45 if not earlier on a 9:00 opening. Second, the lines are still nauseatingly long no matter what. We did get "lucky" for Vader and only waited about twenty minutes. We were second in line when the shift change happened, and it went from Imposingly Massive Vader to Normal Human Size Vader. Also, they have him in front of a black drape, which is unfortunate. (Although in fairness we couldn't agree on a better color, just anything other than black for an all black dressed person please.)

This may sound slightly sour grapes and I am sorry...but while the parade is fun with all the appropriate SW characters, it's nothing like a Disney parade can be. A bit of a let down for a family used to full-on Disney performances.

All in all though it was a nice experience, even for a family not gung-ho fans of the franchise. I was about the same age my son is now when the first movie came out, and I remember seeing it at the drive in with my dad; it's nice to know my son will likely remember this too.

peace,
4

Thanks so much for your report Amy. As a huge Star Wars geek, I was disappointed that our trip wasn't going to be during the Weekends, but since the last time we went was in 1994, and this one was a total surprise, I was aboslutely thrilled to be going to WDW. Living in California ensures that we visit Disneyland all the time, so it's not like I'm hurting for a Disney fix. That said, I'm tenatively planning a trip for SW Weekends in either 2007 or 2008. I'll go by myself if I have to.

lady&tramp -- we are planning on going every weekend, but plans can change. As for living close to Disney, it has it's perks, but on the other hand, we have to deal with swealtering weather ALL the time. But I wouldn't give up Disney for anything!

4EverFigment -- sorry you didn't like the Star Wars parade, did you get to check out the regular Stars and Motorcars parade while you were there? As for the fast pass tips, you are correct, if anyone is interested in getting celebrity autographs, you have to do it first thing in the morning...they go fast. You can always try to get a standby position, but they are not guaranteed unfortunately.

Sleeping Jedi Beauty -- Sorry to hear your trip was just shy of SWW this year, but you have a lot to look forward to if you decide to go 07 or 08!

and finally, samc, this ones for you...hopefully you can see your little guy...it's the only other pic of the younglings I have from that day! Hope it helps!

Wow! We are going to be at WDW on June 4th and although we are big fans of the original trilogy we thought we might take a pass, but after your reviews I think we will have to rethink that! Thank you!

Thanks Amy........I can see the back of his legs and shoes. I really appreciate you taking the time to post your picture for me......you are very kind!! BTW this was our first trip for SWW and we had a BLAST!!!

Hey Amy! I enjoyed your report and I loved all the pics...must have taken you forever to download all those puppies.

I've never been there on a Star Wars weekend. Then again, I'm not one to have a Star Wars-themed wedding, either! :teeth:

Cash and I attended the '05 Star Wars celebration. We had a lot of fun (as much as a lab/Chessie cross working as a Service Dog can have at a sci-fi convention) until one of the Storm Trooper guys decided to have himself a little fun..
I'm still waiting for a member of the crowd to post pictures of that idiot stomping his big plastic feet at my Service Dog... There must be SOMEONE...The crowd was shocked, the Trooper's handler paralyzed with equal stupidity. I wonder what would have happened if I had just rammed the guy with my scooter?...Day in the life at WDW or defense of dog?

:confused3

Nice pics! Thanks for taking the time to post...Needless to say, we skipped it this year.
