Star Wars Weekend Tips 2012

So how was the first day of "build your own droid"? How much does it cost? DH & I (and friends) will be there next weekend! Cannot wait!!!

We have been to Star Wars Weekends but it has been several years ago, my girls have never had any interest in the JTA before. My 10 year old daughter and I were watching videos of JTA on youtube and now she thinks she might be interested. Is this something they only do for SWW's or do they offer this at Hollywood Studio's daily? We will be there June 2nd-June 10th and plan on at least two days at HS for SWW and at least one non SWW day during the middle of the week.

They do JTA everyday, the only difference is that during SWW they have 2 groups, one battles Darth Vader on stage and the other battles Darth Maul or Ventress at the bottom. Also during SWW the kids get a prize at the end (in the past it's been collectible coins or and action figure).
If your daughter doesn't mind not getting a toy you might want to do this during a non SWW day as it'll be less crazy for sign ups...still you need to be there at park opening to sign up for JTA even on non-SWW days.

Thanks! We plan on getting there around 7 am on June 3rd. Would that be early enough? I am not sure that she would care about the toy but she liked the idea of battling Darth Vader or Darth Maul. So on non SWW days they don't get to battle Darth Vader or Darth Maul, is that right?

I'm sorry I wasn't clear...on non-SWW days they DO battle Darth Vader on stage.

Are SWW usually for 4 weekends mid May to June? I am trying to plan ahead for May 2013 and would like to try to be there for SWW.

First year it was in February, then they changed it to weekends in May then they changed it to last 2 weekends in May first 2 weekends in Junem the all June weekends, then back to May/June That's how's it's been for a couple of years now. Here's the SWW dates since it started http://sww.studioscentral.com/main/content/dates

Awesome! Thanks so much. Sounds like we would be better of trying for a non SWW day to sign up. :)

Sign up should be easier on non SWW , still get there as the park is opening as they tend to fill up all the spots during the morning hours.

Just wanted to confirm that Jedi Training Academy sign ups will be at Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular by their FP machines during SWW

I wanted to respond to thank people who answered my question, but this board always eats my posts when I post from my iPad. :(*

Anyway, I saw I wasn't on the list, so add me for May 18 & 20 (and who knows, maybe I'll pop in that Saturday for a bit too, lol)

Hi Everyone - Counting the days here - 21, and can't wait...me and my best bud and my godson and his son...we are going to have a blast. First SSW for all of us.

I'm hoping you can all help me with a rope drop question - disney.com has Hollywood Studios opening at 9AM on the Saturday 6/2 (the only day we can make the rope drop). When do they make the call if they are going to open earlier? We want to see the Storm Trooper show in the AM, but don't need to be there super early for autograph fastpasses or JTA. So we will roll in 30 minutes or so before opening. But if they open at 8 and not 9...we will miss it.

Do they know at the park the day before? We will be there on Friday afternoon, so can I just ask someone?

Thanks so much - see you there!!

I think a lot of it last year had to do with the new Star Tours opening. They were expecting crazy huge crowds and it didn't play out anything like that. The queue ropes were all the way back down to Streets of America.

I can't remember if they opened early everyday last year/every weekend or not. I kind of don't expect it this year since it was so empty during that time last year - way overestimated the crowd. I can't imagine the financial/operation cost of it, SInce nothing new is really in play this year - I kind of doubt it will happen.

There were also tons of complaints from resort guests who were told different park hours, planned based on the stated hours and got there only to find they were late and there were no more spots left for JTA etc... I couldn't really blame the people who were upset.

That said, you never know - and I would love to be wrong since we'll be there before the crack of dawn. Riding TSM multiple times last year without having to get off the attraction - just kept riding through was amazing!
