Star Wars Weekend Tips ~ 2011 Update

We had planned to do SWW on Sunday the 6th, as the recommendations on this board...but touringplans lists it as a park to avoid, and instead recommends DS on Saturday. Which advice would you follow? This is our first SWW!

I would guess they mean it as the park to avoid for non SWW stuff.

We are planning on the 6th as well. I saw that touring plan suggestion and wondered the same thing!!!

Since we planning on the 6th, I think all of you should take touring plans advice and go with the 5th! :lmao:

Do you mean once you get to the front that you will keep letting people pass you until your character comes along? Then, yes, people do it all the time in the rotating character lines. (We were able to see Captain Rex in record time last year since the 50 people ahead of us wanted to see Ahsoka)

If you mean that after you get a picture with the character you want that you go back to your place in front of the line (allowing people to pass until the next one), then no. After you get your picture, you go back to the end of the line.

Does that make sense?

That's good to know. Thanks for the explaination.

That makes perfect sense and is exactly what I was attempting to say!
Thank you!!

You are all so funny! And I don't detect an ulterior motive in the slightest...so based on experience, which day will be more crowded? Saturday or Sunday??

We have only been on Sundays so I can't compare. We are planning for 2 Sundays this trip (6th and 13th)

We are going the first Friday........... the 21st, it'll be our FIRST SWW - it's a surprise for DS - he has NO clue it's going on.

I've tried to read through this thread.......... but, can anyone advise us on the best place to see the parade from.......... I know DH will want to record it - so, a "good" spot would be nice.

Any other advice? Thanks!!! :goodvibes

The stairs of AIE are a good spot to record, you're elevated and it's shady.

I'm starting to have bad dreams about long lines....:scared1:

It's just my eldest and I going...we'll be there the 21st and the 22nd. He's most interested in getting those LE pins - so that will be line #1! I just want to get some pics with the characters (don't care for the celebs), watch the parade and the hoopla and not get lost in the crowd meanwhile.

Seriously - how bad will it be those first 2 days??

DGF and I will be there through the first weekend of SWW! I keep reading that Sundays are the best day to see all the SWW stuff. I had already planned on spending all of Friday at DHS so should we just do the regular attractions that day and wait till Sunday to see the SWW action? I know for sure we want to see the parade and meet Jedi Mickey and Leia Minnie.

Also I really want to the LE Emperor Stitch figure. Any idea where to get that the first day and if there will be a line for it?

Don't stress over it. Yes there will be people but don't get yourself stressed aout about it. Go get your pins and then tart hitting all the spots where the characters that you want will be. Take it easy and enjoy the atmosphere. There's plenty of spots where you can see the parade and as for Hoopla, if you don't mind not being right in front of the stage you can grab a chair early from the outside of Backlot Express and enjoy the shows and the JTA leading to Hoopla.

In the past they have done lines for the first Friday for all LE merch. Who knows how it will work this year. But the LE merch will be at the AFI store (the one right as you exit Backlot tour) By the size of the edition (only 1980) I predict that Stitch will sell out quickly.
Other than that you can do some rides and watch the SWW parade and meet SW Mickey and Leia. If you have an extra day at the Studios the better cause you'll probably be walking around and you see more characters you want your pic with. Just take it easy and prioritize.

So let me see if I understand what is being recommended here. For SWW, the best day is Sunday. For the "rest" of HS Saturday would be better? Is that the recommendation?

We also want to see the characters, get some LE merchandise, watch hoopla. Not interested in the celebrities. We want to ride TSM, ST, etc. I have decided this is the day/park I will use my GAD fast passes.

That said...which would be the best day for US to go? Thanks for your help, my plan is driving me crazy ever since touringplans opened up my timeframe on the free site...

Is anyone willing to share their game plan for their Star Wars day? I have never been and I am kinda a commando style person who has most of the day planned out so it's killing me! I do not want to get autographs of the stars, but I want to ride Toy Story a few times and see the parade and lots of mickey and minnie type characters. I also heard there was a stormtrooper skit in the morning before you go in. Can anyone say anything about it?

Any thoughts?

Jenn
