Star Wars question. For the Empire or the Republic? Which would you side with in the Star Wars universe if you lived in it? Bonus question, what would your career be in the Star Wars universe?

Well, I would side with The Republic in general, though the Republic has been shown to be pretty corrupt at times too. Really, I side more with The Jedi, defending peace and justice regardless of political concerns - at least up until the very end of course. Still, neither were as evil as the Empire, so that's a hard no on that.

Realistically, I wouldn't be some kind of awesome fighter or something, though if I could pick, I would be some kind of fighter pilot, or Jedi with an emphasis on piloting skills, like Jedi Ace Sasee Tiin. More likely, I'd be doing exactly what I do, working in revenue management for Star Tours or The Halcyon or something.

I'm always a 3rd party candidate person. What or who would be the third choice in the Star Wars universe? The Jedi? Some other group?

Well, to be fair, "The Republic" is a pretty broad group. There were many represented worlds, each with their own governments as well. Senators would form alliances based on shared goals, like Padme's group that pushed for peace during the Clone Wars. Other senators backed Palapatine as he pushed for stronger, more centralized power (not really knowing about the whole Sith thing though). If you want to just stay out of it completely, you'd be out in the Outer Rim, maybe as a bounty hunter or something. While the Jedi were technically independent, they did become pretty entrenched with the Republic, equating the Republic's interests with the greatest good - though it wasn't always the case, especially once Palpatine was in charge.

Also, to add, The Empire didn't really tolerate dissent - at all. No third parties there!

Well, definitely not the Empire! But at times, the Republic wasn't all that great either. I'm with the Rebels, in supply acquisitions at the Hoth base.

New to the board, but my name kind of gives it away. :)

I'd be frustrated by the political factions within the Senate wishing for a more idealistic society where we were truly united as one Republic. (I'd probably fit in better in the High Republic era.)

I only saw the “first” Star Wars in 1977 and came away thinking Darth Vader and friends were the “Good Guys.”

Kdonnel, you be whomever, whatever, you want to be. Don’t let anyone put you in a box! Or in a Sarlacc pit…of conformity.

In a galaxy far, far away, you’re never too far from who you really are.

That said, you can be this guy!

:welcome:

Everyone, don't foreget that there is also Mandalore which was not a part of the Republic proper and was it's own empire for a while. But if you want to talk about political factions, their infighting gets real ugly and typically ends with single combat to the death, so....

I really wish there was a "groan" emoji. That's just too stupid.
Well I thought it was completely stupid, and you're welcome!

Some things the Empire did that the Republic didn’t just to play devils advocate:
1. Ended slavery.
2. Unified the whole galaxy under one system.
3. Eliminated unnecessary bureaucracy.
4. Had the most powerful military that could reach anywhere in the galaxy with Anakin in charge.
5. Separated Church and State (Jedi eliminated).

Actually, not really in a few of those cases. The Empire absolutely kept slaves - they just didn't call it that. If you were a non-human species, good luck!

Vader was not technically in charge of the military. Tarkin even outranked him as far as that goes. But, you know, good luck arguing with Vader about anything!

Sith is also a religion!

Ha ha, I doubt anyone emplyed by the Empire can get a policy that doesn't exclude getting Force choked by Darth Vader! It can be a great path to promotion though!

I want to know what a stormtrooper contract contains. How much money do their spouses and kids get out of the deal and what is the Empire’s medical plan like?
