Star Wars Marathon in Jan should I change my booking to avoid it.

We have planned a trip to Disneyland in Jan. I have made a booking for the 14th Jan to the 19th. We will not be spending that whole time in Disneyland but want to see the night time shows including the fireworks. I booked at the new Courtyard Marriott Anaheim the one with the water park. When I booked I thought it was a little strange that the room prices jumped up on I think it was the Thursday, Friday and Saturday night but I figured that it must be the way that this hotel runs. I then started to do some more research and realized that these were the dates of the Star Wars Marathon. Should I change my dates to the 9th of jan to the 14th of jan. I do need to include a weekend so that our teenagers can go to six flags, as I am aware that is only open on weekends in Jan.
Thank you for all your help.

I don't know if you should change your dates or not, but I just wanted to say that I have a strong feeling that "Season of the Force" -- which is basically a new sort of event featuring new Star Wars food, new Star Wars merchandise, entertainment, and the debut of Hyperspace Mountain (along with a new Star Tours adventure, which is debuting later this year, and the Star Wars Launch Bay, which should begin in October) -- will start soon after the holiday season ends in January. It may start immediately after.

I think that the holiday season will end on January 6th, most likely. If this coming January is anything like this past January, Disney will want to get Season of the Force open right after the holidays to bring in people during an otherwise slow time. That's what they did this past January when they opened "Frozen Fun" the day after the holidays ended. It is deliberately planned that way to get extra business when the parks would otherwise quiet down a bit. So, if my hunch is right, expect to see Season of the Force debuting somewhere between January 7th and January 11th, and then lasting at least a few months, more than likely.

I could be completely and totally wrong, but this is what I am thinking.

Thank you for that information, idea. It gives me something more to think about. I think I am just going to have to weigh up the advantages/disadvantages of both dates and go with one. As we are traveling from Australia I will have to make up my mind soon to get good airfare prices.

Having participated in the Disneyland Half last year, and not experienced really big crowds (and the runners, remember, are likely slow and limpy LOL), I wouldn't anticipate anything overwhelming. Disneyland Half is over Labor Day weekend, which many people have a long weekend for. Jan 18 is MLK Jr day, but I'm not sure people take 4-5 day weekends for that. I'm also participating in the SW Half marathon weekend (no full marathon, by the way) and not anticipating anything awful. (I will cry if I'm wrong...July 26-31 was as busy as I ever want to be at DLR for)

I've done that weekend the last 3 years for the races. I think you'll be ok but its your call. The day of the half, Sunday, will be the busiest day of the weekend in my experience. The morning the parks should be slow (though I've never been in the morning cause I'm running)but once the runners are done with the race and have gone back to change and shower, they will start going to the parks so the crowds will increase around lunch time. I've found the friday and saturday before the race to be very manageable, normal weekend crowds IMO. Nothing that would scare me away. And again just personal opinion but I've found DCA to be less busy on Sunday evening after the race than DL. If you have park hoppers and can hop around to avoid the crowds you should be fine.
