Star Trek vs Star Wars

dont know why these comparisons pop up.............the only thing they have in common is the word "star"................... generally its by folks who dont really know the difference........... its like saying which do you like best a lady bug or lady gaga.............lost or lost in space...............barney rubble or barney the dinousaur..........................:rotfl2:

Haha, neither.

But I think Star Wars is less dorky :) :goodvibes

Really?

I like Star Trek, LOVE Star Wars!

I mean it has lightsabers! And Obi-Wan Kenobi! What more does a series need, lol. :worship:

I'm pretty sure my user name should give my preference away :)

But just in case, Star Wars by a mile. I've never been able to get into anything Star Trek related, and actually fell asleep whenever my dad would watch any incarnation of the tv show. I did finally see the new movie at the persistance of my husband over the weekend, but could not bring myself to go to the theatre to see it. It just felt wrong somehow.

I will say I have a lot of friends who are big Trek fans, but we try not to get into discussions regarding the merits of one over the other...it has the potential to get ugly ;)

I like both of them but I think that Star Wars is more interesting and has better characters. I should add that I was a Star Wars geek since I saw A New Hope countless times over the years - I lost count when it was 20-something.

Star Wars, hands down. I'm quite familure with the ST universe as my mother, brothers, and now DH are all Trekies. I've seen all of the original Star Trek and Next Generation eps (though not Voyager, DS9, Enterprise) so I can safely compare the two. I still think SW is better, even after the cluster bleep that was Eps 1-3 (okay, Ep 1 was okay, 2 and 3? thpppppp!).

That said, I loved the new ST movie and can't wait to see another (if they are doing one...I haven't heard if they are or not).

You should watch the movie Fanboys. The Star Wars vs Star Trek aspects of the movie is hillarious!!:rotfl:

I'm a big Star Wars fan. :thumbsup2 I just watched the movie "Fanboys", and it was AMAZING. It's about a group of friends who travel to Skywalker Ranch in 1999 to steal an early-release copy of "Episode 1". Super, super funny.

I will admit that I like Star Trek, too, though. DFi and I just watched the Star Trek movie last week and I was pretty impressed.

Despite my sig, I do like both. I grew up seeing both series in the theater. Granted the only fandom I got into was Star Trek (as there were no Star Wars-related fandom back in the 90s). The 501st requirements are above my budget as one has to have a professional-level costume to join as they're officially sanctioned by LucasFilm.

I do go to various conventions every year. Not so much Trek conventions as they're few and far between in my area these days. So I get to see the guests mainly at Dragoncon in Atlanta.

I have never liked Star Wars, and I was in HS when it came out, so I lived the hype......

Love Star Trek with the exception of Deep Space 9 which was an abomination.

I don't think there is anything pop-culture related that I like more than Star Wars. And truthfully, aside from my family and friends I don't think there really is anything that I enjoy with the intensity of SW.

My favorite is Star Trek Deep Space Nine. I really like complicated, serialized stories like that, Babylon 5, Farscape, and the new Battlestar Galactica. I also liked TNG even though it's a bit too episodic for my taste. Didn't care for Enterprise or Voyager, and TOS is funny and hokey to me (though I enjoyed the new movie.)

I loved Star Wars as a kid, but the new movies are painful and even the old ones don't hold up to my adult eyes.

same here. HUGE Star Wars fan, to the point where i have dedicated a portion of my Skin to show my loyalty, but i have less than Zero interest in star trek.
while they both might take place in Space, to me Star Wars is not about Scifi and Space really. It is an Epic story about the power of Good vs. Evil, it just happens to take place in space. It has a deeper meaning that a lot of people dont get. My GF thinks its just a stupid movie about space guys, she doesnt get it.

Star Trek to me is just a boring scifi show with boring story lines. i never liked the shows, or the original movies. HOWEVER , if the original movies or shows were as good as the Latest one, i might like it more, they did a good job on that one. the rest of it bores me to death.

I will put this in my Netflix Que.:thumbsup2

As far as Trekkie vs Trekker Gene Roddenberry has been quoted as saying "It is Trekkie, I should know I invented the thing."

I LOVE this movie! My husband likes both Star Wars and Star Trek, and couldn't understand my inability to go with him to see the new movie. I finally had something to back me up, even if it was a movie :rotfl:

I have a whole room dedicated to my loyalty....I went a little ebay crazy in the late nineties. :goodvibes
The hubby has decided he wants to get an Imperial symbol tattooed at some point, and I'm still deciding what I want to get. I really lucked in with him, he gives me almost too much encouragement in my obsession. I've heard stories of people selling off their collections once they got married. I figure, if you say you love me, you love ALL of me, including the ubergeek side :p

It's really close, but I have to say my favorite is Star Trek for various reasons. Don't be surprised if I change my answer later though. ^^;
