Stanley "Tookie" Williams

M & M - i'll think good thoughts for your DH.

I agree with you Missiepie and the other posters. It's good he's turned his life around and has helped others however that doesn't change what he did to the 4 people he murdered.

This case got me thinking today that probably 20 years from now a new generation will be wondering who this "Scott Peterson" is the day before he's executed on Death Row.

Kind of off topic but if anyone could send some prayers/pixie dust, my husband is walking out the door to go to work (he is a police officer) and is having to take his riot gear with him, hoping he doesn't have to use it, it is going to be a long night for everyone.

Sending prayers for M&M's DH and all those who will be on duty tonight. I hope things are quiet.

Christ told the thief on the cross: "You will be in paradise with me tonight." He did not say, "Okay, if you believe, I'll let you down off that cross."

I honestly don't know how I feel about the death penalty but I do know that you're statement really opened my eyes tonight. I never thought about the executions of Jesus and the thieves that way before.

And for those on duty tonight - be safe. :grouphug:

Does the fact that he claims he is innocent (and has since day 1) and his story has never changed (even though his heart apparently has) mean anything?

I was thinking that even if he didn't commit the crime he was convicted of, he probably did something equally heinous that he was not caught for. That's probably not a good way to think, but his gang banging hurt many people.

I have qualms about innocent people being executed because it happens at an alarming rate.

I feel for the family of the victims, it must be hard to see people treating the person that killed their family members like a celebrity.

Well, Jamie Foxx and Snoop Dog say he should live so he must be a good guy, right?

He's a murderer. Bye Bye

Should have done it to him long time ago! Let it drag out to long, fry him and be done with the trash.

Wow! 'Tis the season, I guess. The spirit of the holidays is just overflowing on this thread.

So he should be spared because it is the holiday season? I doubt he thought about what season it was when he was murdering his victims.

Pardon my sarcasm. I was actually referring to people here saying "fry him," those who seem to be getting warm fuzzies through vengeful comments.

I can relate.....this type of situation is so scary when people's emotions take over......my DH is also a police officer. My thoughts will be with your Dh and his co-workers.

My prayers are with your DH and all police officers tonight, and for their families. And an extra hug for you. :grouphug: v

Hopefully, people will keep their wits about them and things won't get out of hand.

He is definitely in my prayers. And he and his fellow officers have my special thanks for being out there, protecting lives - DS #2 attends college in L.A. (USC) and at times like this, I can't help being a little concerned for his safety.

I think the saddest part is that the people who have suffered the most because of gangs, the african american community, are the people standing up fighting for his clemency.

Either they don't understand exactly what his type of violence has done to their brothers and sisters or they understand forgiveness.

I am against the death penalty. I don't know why he just can't waste away behind bars for the rest of his life. Killing him is going to make him a martyr, keeping him alive just makes him another pathetic criminal behind bars for the rest of his life.

That said, I have respect for Arnold for not giving into pressure from special interest groups. I think its brave of him especially considering he knows that riots might break out if Tookie is executed. Sometimes the easiest thing isn't the right thing and the hardest thing is.

I pray tonight for all police officers, I don't know how they cope with dealing with the scum of the earth. They truly are the finest!

B/c tax payers will have to foot the bill for all the days of his pathetic life. It will be nice when he is gone and no longer draining The System.

If only they would start using the death penalty against people who rape and molest children. They are just as evil as those who murder.

But, for now, I am happy the earth will no longer be housing a piece of garbage like Tookie.

That was me and I assure there are no "warm fuzzies" here.

It is a common myth that we get rid of the cost of a criminal by killing them but it is actually much more expensive to kill someone than it is to keep them alive. Life without parole is much cheaper on the taxpayer than sentenced to death.

The site below will show you just how much it costs with appeals, lawyers and court time to put someone to death.

That said, my belief that the death penalty is wrong is based on moral beliefs and not social ones. And trust me, I am no bleeding heart liberal, I'm in fact a pretty hard core consesrvative.

Again, I pray for the police officers who have the deal with the aftermath. I pray there are not riots.

Actually, I take that back... I am getting warm fuzzies thinking about his demise. Too bad he is only get an injection... he deserves to suffer.
