Standard view DOES NOT mean noisy view!

OK, but keep in mind we're talking 5:30 am...every day. Hats off to all of you who wouldn't mind being woken up this way on vacation. For the others of you who would find this offensive, just be aware. You don't have to silently accept what is not reasonable. That's all. It is possible that sometimes things can be improved and it's OK to let Disney, or any business, know that.

We had this experience as well in November last year. We did not ask for any compensation, but it did sour us on the standard view at BWV. (We had requested down the long hallway even.)

Not according to what a Member Satisfaction manager told me. They all go to the same department and then are sorted into different areas such as Complaints, Complimentary comments, booking questions etc. etc.

Typical, after using the form, I was told the opposite.

We are arriving this weekend and staying in a standard view 2br, now I am concerned that we will get one of these noisy rooms since I requested "not too far from an elevator". Guess I'll just have to wait and see but since we will have small children with us, it is a concern.

Oh my, I've learned that near the elevator does mean near the RAC loading dock. After reading this thread it reminded me that I had not made a room request, so yesterday I called and made my normal request .... I request as far away from the elevator as possible. I often will also add "near the tennis" court. And high floor as my second request. They often will try to fill request in the order of how they are listed. Though I don't generally get request here at BWV filled, but I keep trying. I would rather drag my tire body up 4 flights of stairs then be near the elevators/loading dock. I own at BWV and book standard most of the time, so I've had good and not so good rooms. But I've had garden view once and was next to the dumpsters and loading dock near jelly rolls and the noise there was just a bad. Good luck this weekend. Leave the light on as we arrive on Friday the 12th.

Those rooms in my opinion should have their own catergory, 1/2 points due to noise and you know in advance what you're up against, bring your earplugs. At least in a value room you know it's going to be a bit tighter, why not a category for less desirable rooms!

We've had those rooms - it wasn't any worse than the room we had right over Big River Brewing, or the noise from the Boardwalk carts in the morning, the noise from Luna Park in the middle of the afternoon when you are trying to nap, or the room over the dumpster at WL with the BEEP BEEP of the trash truck. I find Boardwalk to be a noisy resort, but I've lived in cities for much of my life and don't find it too disturbing - its noticeable though in any part of the resort.

The reason they don't make them cheaper is because they'd have to reallocate points - they can't make some rooms cheaper without making others more expensive. There are other reasons as well. What about the room next to the noisy room, or the room next to that. How about a tree in front of your view?, maybe you are hard of hearing so don't care about noise, but you do care about view. More categories are harder to manage and create more availability issues.

Each DVC resort has good rooms and bad rooms (there is a room at VWL without a balcony), and each DVC guest has preferences - some will take noise over a handicapped room. Some will want a long hallway if it means a great view. I'd just take getting a firm mattress - I've yet to get a good mattress at DVC. If DVC were a fixed unit fixed week timeshare, you'd know what you were getting, but it isn't.

Thanks, hope you have a great trip, too. We will be leaving on the 14th so perhaps we'll cross paths. I believe my first request was a high floor so I'm hoping even if we get one of the rooms located in that area, it won't be as bad if we are up higher. I believe we might have had one last time we were there because I know we watched the comings/goings at the BW entrance. Wasn't too bad but then that was before RAC. Oh, well, I am going to be optimistic!

We were in this villa a year ago and were not woken up. DH and I must be heavy sleepers, lol.

FIL and MIL were with us and they are early risers anyway. FIL spent a lot of time in the room due to health reasons, and he actually loved the luggage view, LOL.

It entertained him for hours - watching the people, listening to the various issues that arose, and it sounds like there were plenty of those going on, lol.

Now, we did have other issues with the room, but that is another whole story...

So, what are you saying? If you want an acceptable vacation, you should pay the highest rate that Disney has to avoid unnecessary situations that could ruin a vacation? Standard view to me does not mean substandard service or accomodations.

IMO you're placing too much emphasis on the term "view". They're not going to say "the cheap rooms that are going to have some issues" - no hotel does. But rooms are cheaper for a reason - or multiple reasons.

As crisi said BWV can be a noisy resort to stay at. Boardwalk view rooms - They built the boardwalk right below the rooms and let noisy people walk, laugh and shout on them late into the night. And then the cleaning people start rolling their carts across them at 5:30 am.

Your on a mission - I get that. What I've said is this isn't uncommon with travel. Activity by other people started before yours did. It is not unique to BWV standard view. Strange, unfamiliar noises happened. People can live next to train tracks and it's ok because they get used to it. Some have posted here that they had no problem sleeping thru the same noise. My own DH would not have an issue. I would have an issue and could sympathize to a point but decided to attempt to give a pointer instead. I know I can't control all other people and required operations at a resort so for my own sanity I learned how to mitigate the issue - ie, ear plugs. Or some people travel with white noise machines. Or......they choose not to stay at a location again.

Brian has gone into some of the logistics issues that I also see. Unless it were moved to the Inn side (which I can't agree with being an acceptable solution - it's passing the buck), or to a completely different area I can't see it making enough of an impact to the noise level for myself to really matter. So, ear plugs.

The problem is that you don't have control and that someone has to get those rooms since this is a sold out resort. It may as well be you or me. Unfortunately DVC doesn't have a formal system for unit assignments. Marriott assigns rooms based on a priority which factors in whether you own at THAT resort or with Marriott in general, single vs multiple units, and for many resorts, what you got last year. DVC previously put some effort based on reservation date but not more.

From reading this I am reasonably sure they will NOT move the RAC area, so guests booking standard rooms are on warning about that area of the resort now.

I had a standard room booked last weekend and they gave me a full-on pool view. Not sure why that happened, but the pool is noisy too - not at 5:30 and closing the doors helps, but if you want to sit on the balcony it would be noisy.
