Anyone stayed in any "standard" view rooms that had a decent view? I'd love to have a few room numbers to request at check in. Occasionally I get lucky and get a standard room with a good view - it's happened in NYC, San Francisco, and Jamaica - any hope at WDW?

Are a Starwood Preferred Guest? It's free at www.spg.com. I've been upgraded free from a standard view both times I stayed at the Swan/Dolphin just by belonging to spg, even though we were staying on a discount rate ($129-$149/night). Once we had a view of the Boardwalk and Tower of Terror. The other time we had a view of the Beach Club. Both were very nice views.

Yes, I joined a few months ago - will they know that I am a preferred guest when I check in or do I need to give them my member number?

Our standard view at the swan has consisted of once, a view of the back of the huge clamshell, we discovered that is where the air conditioning units are and the other time if we looked sideways we saw the tower of terror. We do ask for a room close to the elevator, that is also close to the ice machine instead of walking all the way down the hall and our "lovely" check in person always reminds us, you know you ARE getting the govt. rate. So I usually dont say anything, we dont spend alot of time in the room anyway.
