DH and I (Disney Fun Fan) are in the process of buying resale at WLV. (We've signed and paid our deposit just waiting for everything else to be processed).

Anyway I've been doing lots of researching and looking at all our different options. I noticed that BWV standard view is a couple of points less a night than preffered. Is it worth it to you for preffered or does it really make a difference?

In my opinion, it does not make a big difference. This April we did have a preferred view (because the standard was sold out) and while the view was great of the quiet pool below and ToT off to the right, I would have been just as happy with a standard view. We have stayed in standard view rooms several times, and they have always overlooked the front entry of the BoardWalk. This topic comes up a lot so you could do a search on BWV Standard view to see others opinions.

BTW, congratulations on your purchase and Welcome Home!

Thanks Corinne. I'll do some searching.

Preferred view is actually broken down into 2 subcategories - preferred boardwalk view and preferred pool/garden view. If you want a guaranteed boardwalk view, you can reserve it (if available). If you want to save points, try to book standard view. If the view you want is not available when you call, you can waitlist.

Just remember thought that at the 7month mark most of the standard views will be gone during most times of the year...There aren't that many to start with, They are my prefered room though...I love my cheap point standard views..

I think it depends upon how much time you spend in your room. I spent a lot of time at the resort, and I won't have a standard view. I got one once, and I had the resorts' air conditioning units right off my balcony, running constantly. I could hear it even with my doors closed. After that, I bought more points so that I could get preferred view, my preferred view being a boardwalk view. I love being able to choose my view, I don't have to hope for the best, and for a few extra points it is well worth it. the most fun part of my vacation is drinking my AM coffee on the balcony, and watching all the joggers labor by! :rotfl:

I'm just the opposite of Cruelladeville...the one time I had a boardwalk view it was so loud at night I couldn't sleep ....drove me nuts...never again a boardwalk view for me....

I'm with Cruelladeville. BW view is worth the extra points to me, even if I only enjoy mornings, as the area comes to life, and evenings watching BW activity and fireworks. I have never heard noise at night and I'm not a particularly hard sleeper. That being said, if points are really tight, standard view is a real bargain and, if you hit it lucky, can be quite nice!

It's a toss-up for me. I think the Boardwalk View is worth the extra points, otherwise I prefer the Standard View because I like the Boardwalk location at OKW point prices. Both options need to be booked at the 11-7 month window, though.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. That was my next question if any would actually be available at the 7 month mark.

Sometimes you get lucky. I was able to get a standard 1 bedroom at the 7 month mark for late April last year. I was combining points with friends who do not own at BWV. Again, you can waitlist. If the waitlist comes up before 31 days, the extra points would be put back into your account.

Absolutely. Our home resort is VWL, and I have been able to get standard views at the BW at the 7 month window. This was for the summer. In April, the only view I could get (needed a 1BR) was a preferred view (not BoardWalk). If standard is available I usually take it. Someday I would like to try a BW view!

We are selling our OKW to buy Boardwalk with intent to book the standard view because of the pt diff and also it is getting harder to get into BWV.

Most of the time we have been able to see the top of the illuminations from our std room. You get to watch the limos come and go and see all the people which is kind of cool. I boardwalk view is very nice but getting it is another story. Well at least at the 7 month window anyway. The other views are ok but for the pts diff we go with std if we can not get Boadwalk.

Note, while owning OKW we were alway able to get BWV on the wait list if we went on it at the 7 month window. This for for popular times like president's week, Easter, summer. We use to alway get std view too but I have not been able to get that in the last year for two. I believe getting std or any view at 7 months is going to get harder with the more timeshares Disney sells. It seems to be a very popular request.

So if you want to get into the really popular; BWV, BC, Wilderness, during peak times you should buy where you want to go.

Good Luck :earsgirl:

Preferred is worth it to us because we enjoy the time spent in the resort. Understand we have never (in 6 years) had a preferred view that was not a Boardwalk view. Early on we just got lucky. Since they changed the system we book at the 11 month window to get the view. We spend a lot of time sitting on the balcony with coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening looking at the view and talking.

The one time we had standard view was a ressie in a January that had an unforseen cold snap. There was no way we were going out on that balcony anyway!

We have only stayed at the BW once and had a Preferred Garden/Pool View.

We were on the top floor, overlooking the main pool. The room was great. We would sit out on the balcony in the morning and drink coffee and when we returned at night we would sit out there and drink a glass of wine.

But for us, we feel we do not spend enough time in the room to justify the higher points. Preferred was all that was available when we switched the reservation at the seven month window.

We ended up buying a 50 point add on. We can bank the points and every other year we can book 11 months out for our week after Thanksgiving trip.

For us, the ability to walk to EPCOT and MGM far outweighs the view from our room!

We've always stayed in standard as well. We're not in our rooms a lot and I've always enjoyed the quiet view when resting in the afternoons.

We get std whenever possible. We like to stay a week in a 2BR so we stretch our 270 BWV points. Having said that, we just booked 3 nights in a BW view 2br next April (Our FIRST BW view since we bought back in '98!) and are looking forward to it as a special little treat after our 4 day Wonder cruise.

To me there is nothing like a BW view and that is the only reason we stay at BWV...LOVE that view and to me it's worth the extra points. If we're staying at the BWV I have to get the BW view room.

We've enjoyed both standard and BoardWalk view. I have to wonder about the pool view... why anyone would choose that. They're no better than the standard view rooms, and are more points.

Usually because it's the only thing left, the pool/garden views are about 60% of the resort. Some people are concerned about the boardwalk view because of the noise.
