We just returned from our stay at BWV and I was very disappointed with our room. We were in room 2064 (dedicated studio) and it was called a preferred view.

The deck was completely enclosed with a round porthole shaped covering. The view from the deck (no word of a lie) was a gigantic tree. If you went outside on the deck and stuck your head through the porthole and looked straight down you could see the sidewalk in front of the Luna Pool.

I am not happy we used extra points to get this kind of view. I did not even care if we saw the fireworks, I just wanted something decent to look at. The room was so dark even with all of the lights on, you could not see well.

DH did ask for another studio, but was sent to one that had the same porthole. He was told there were no other studios.

Funny enough, in the laundry room I met a couple from the UK who had to vacate this room the day we checked in and they were moved to a standard view. They said their room was sunny and bright and they loved their new view. They could not understand either why this room 2064 was called a preferred view.

OK, vent over.

If I could not get boardwalk view, I would go with standard view. I think the standard views are nice. Some of the pool/garden views aren't that great. I've only had one once, that was before they guaranteed boardwalk view, it was on the top floor facing the quiet pool & canal, not too bad but not the boardwalk view I had hoped for (my guide had told me if I booked at exactly 11 months I had a good chance of boardwalk view). After that, I booked standard view until the boardwalk view became guaranteed.

is there any way to complain and get some of your points back. I am going to BWV with a preferred view in October and I would not want to pay the extra points for a view like this. I tried to get standard view but it was not available.

Nope, them's the breaks. You either ressie for BW view or standard view at the time of booking. They are guaranteed. If you can't get them, you have to take what ever they give you for preferred. I am not crazy about the standard views, but if its a choice between standard or preferred, I will take standard everytime. Your only recourse would be to cancel and rebook, assuming they had the inventory available.

I agree completely! I had a preferred view once that was tucked into the corner so that all I could see was the walkway below me and to my right was a wall. Needless to say, I couldn't see any fireworks, the kiester pool or quiet pool. Unfortunately I can't remember the room #, but at least it was only for one night until I moved to a (lovely) boardwalk view. I've had standard views twice, and the views were much better than from this preferred view.

We bought at BWV for the 11month booking window to get SV. We found PV disappointing most times and BW was noisy.

I had a Boardwalk view once that was on the second floor directly over the general store. It too has a completely enclosed balcony with smaller arched openings which also made the room kind of dark. I don't know, it didn't seem like the end of the world to me. The standard view rooms go quickly so if you booked at 7 months or later chances are your only choice would have been preferred, which is everything other than standard (facing the entrance) or boardwalk (facing the boardwalk). Some people really like the quiet of a dedicated studio, so I guess that was a bit of a plus. We added on to BWV to have the option of booking standard rooms...they are a great bargain as far as points go.

We went to the BWV the first week in Aug. and requested a perfered view studio. We were givren room # 3064 I believe . When we got upstairs we were facing the pool but couldn't see anything but a tree. We asked to be moved if possible and was given room #5060 . The room was top dead center facing the slide, a perfect room to watch your kids at the pool. The latter was worth every extra point but not the first one.

your room was right above mine.

I did try for another view at the seventh month, but nothing was available other than the preferred view. What was interesting was I did wait list for a standard view, but according to Disney nothing ever came up. I just find it annoying I used so many extra points for a horrible view. Honestly, the tree took up the entire view. You could not even see around it.

Preferred view is preferred by no one (ok, there is probably some weirdo out there who prefers it). That is why its available when nothing else is. If you have the opportunity to book standard or Boardwalk, do so, otherwise, some of the preferred views are great, some not so great, and there is nothing you can do about it.

But there are lousy views at VWL and BCV for the same number of points, if it makes you feel better.

We stayed in a Preferred View Studio this past May and had a great view. I requested a room overlooking the Village Green and that's exactly what we got. Great room!

For those of you who have a Preferred View room, I would definitely request one in this area...and I'm not a weirdo! ;)

As far as I know, all of the preferred rooms in this area are studios. So it's a good request for a studio but not for larger rooms.

That's a shame because it really was a great room!

Can anybody who loved their room either studio or 1 bedroom give the room numbers out with a view description so when we go I can request that room number and any pics to go along would be great. Thanks in advance!:surfweb:

We also agree. We stay in SV or not at all. Sorry OP, I agree, it's a lesson learned. I've only had on PV room (May 2008) and I did not like it at all. I tried to change and nothing was available. We had the view facing the Swan/Dolphin and the last room next to the dumpsters. It was always pleasant watching all of the traffic and hearing the beep beep beep whenever we were outside. My DH also said, they call this a PV???? Sadly we asked to be near our family who had a SV 1-br and they were near the door for the tennis court. We could not have been farer apart. There are some great PV locations, but unfortunately not everyone can have those rooms and someone has to take the unpopular rooms. Hopefully you and I have paid our dues and we get great rooms from now on!!!

It's really not a good idea to request a specific room #. If that room is already occupied, they will give you whatever else is available, which may not be the best. For example, one trip I got the great corner room on the standard view side, 3123. So on my next trip, I requested 3123 or 4123 (2123 was smoking at the time). We ended up all the way down near Jellyrolls, facing the Swan/Dolphin and the Jellyrolls dumpster. At the time, those were considered standard view because the DVC offices partially blocked the view. Anytime I stayed standard veiw before, I requested top floor, across from the bus stop and got a great view. The time that I requested specific room #'s, I was not thrilled. I asked if anything else was available, they said no and the requested rooms were already occupied.

Hi All
We'r planning on making our ressie for a Boardwalk View, 1 bdrm for next August soon. DH insists on a Boardwalk view. Is this part of the Preferred View? Or are there 3 categories now? V, P and B? Are there any bad Boardwalk views? My guess is to ask for the highest floor?
We're new DVC members and BWV is our home resort and next summer will be our first visit there. I guess I'm a bit confused from reading this thread and want to be sure what to ask for.
Thanks!

I can't remember our room number and I didn't take any pictures either, sorry.

I just requested a room overlooking the Village Green and got lucky.

There are three different categories at BW...standard view, preferred view and boardwalk view. Preferred view and boardwalk view use the same amount of points, standard view uses less.

The room I got, overlooking the Village Green was a preferred view room. There were no boardwalk views left when I made my reservation.

I have stayed at BW several times, but always in a standard view room. We have gotten lucky, a couple times, and got a room relatively close to the bus stop, looking at the canal and parking lot. A couple times we had a room at the end of the mile long hallway (it seemed that long after a long day at the parks!). I prefer the standard view rooms because of the low points and I love staying at the BW, but sometimes they're not available, especially when I miss the seven month mark to change my reservation. This last trip was the only time I wasn't able to get a standard view room.
