Now that Disney is building a fancy slide at the OKW main pool, more people than ever will be clamoring to be near the pool and HH. Might be a good time for DVC to carve the points into "Preferred" and "Standard" like BWV. The Preferred could be somewhat more like SSR's point structure and the Standard could be a little less than current OKW structure.

I would love it because then we would only book Standard and stretch our points even further. :teeth:

According to our guide (not that they don't pass along misinformation sometimes)...DVC has no intention of EVER setting up different "views" at any of their resorts again.

It seems it's been a bit of a nightmare keeping people happy. Some people's definition of preferred is different from others. People who originally reserved the preferred view were kept awake with the noise from the Boardwalk...hence the creation of the "boardwalk view". Add in all of the "I can see the very corner of a major intersection from my balcony...this room should be standard points instead of preferred" comments and it would be enough to make any decision-maker to cut out the whole view option entirely.

OKW has pretty standard views no matter where you are located. A view of the pool vs the golf course is about the only difference possible. Being able to see the pool wouldn't add anything to the vacation.

That is one big mess they have at BWV, I would not want to see that happen to OKW. There is not much preferred about being close to HH unless you have some walking problem or have very small kids. The slide will keep me away from the main pool even more now. I go to OKW to relax. The slide will bring life guards to the main pool anyway that will stop all jumping into pools, throwing things around the pool and running. It could actually make the main pool more pleasant because of the life guards. AT any rate a lot of us never request any position for our rooms they are all great as far as I am concerned. But being near the main pool or HH when the slide is there will be a problem because your parking spaces will be taken up by people using the pool. I never wanted to see a slide at OKW but with it comes life guards so it isn't all bad.

I have to agree with Pa@okw95. The parking situation near HH is already bad. I don't see how adding the slide would qualify it for "preferred". Put me anywhere, I'll be happy. We OKWers all have certain areas of the resort we like better than others, but if our area requests aren't available it isn't a tragedy.

I don't see it happening either. We like the Turtle Pond area, I have no desire to be near the HH.

The parking situation is a big issue. More than once I've had to park in the lot in front of building 13 or 14 because there were no spaces in the HH lot when I went to check-in or go to Olivia's. I hate to do that because I would be upset if I was staying in one of those buildings and couldn't find a space.

I'll throw out another idea - will pool hopping be permitted to the OKW pool? I could see members staying at BWV or VWL wanting to try it out for a change of scenery. That will make parking worse.

Whe we stayed at OKW this past Dec we stayed a week in the Turtle Pond area and a week in HH area we prefered the HH area. We had no problems with parking up front but in the Turtle Pond area if we had some place to go off site we would come back to no parking then have to park in front of someone elses building thus taking away a spot from someone in the building there. We never had any issues with parking in building 64 when we were there so I guess it will all be determined by when you go aswell as how many people come over to pool hop. the points shouldn't be changed though as I have found most areas at OKW to pretty much be a preffered view room due to the layout of the resort.

Yes, I do not see Disney creating different views again - what a mess that would be

thanks

If they ever did a split I think it would have to be defined more like Prefered Location and Non-Preferred location instead of Preferred/Standard VIEWS. That would indicate higher points for the preferred location because of it's proximity to HH and the pool and not because it had a better view. IMO some of the villas with the very best VIEWS are nowhere near the HH.

Anyway, just semantics. Disney will never do this. And rightfully so.

Interesting, since building 64 is one of the buildings that does not have its own parking area. We were quite dissapointed with that on our August trip when we were in that building.

We prefer South Point and to be away from HH, because of the crowding there. Granted, it is nice to be on the last bus stop on the way out of the resort, but not much fun when you come back, unless it is late at night, when they tend to stop at HH on the way in.

The lot for building 64 is over to the lefdt of the building if you are standing in front of it looking straight towards say the elevator area. That was what we were told at check in mind you we were on the other end beside BLDG 63 so we parked in the lot there as there was never anyone in that lot. There was always about 5 or 10 if not more open parking spaces when we were there.

I thought - based on what some anti-slide members have posted here - that the overwelming majority of the membership voted against the slide. Wouldn't that mean the Villas near the HH would be Standard and all the quite areas Preferred ?? Hmmmm...

LOL! Excellent point! :)

I can see it now...
DVC goes to Standard and Preferred Views at all of the resorts...

If you book a room near the elevator, it's preferred...
... unless it's a h/c or smoking room, and then it's standard...

If you book a room with a pool view, it's preferred...
... unless there are loud kids playing at the pool, or a bush in front of your room, or a Scary Clown outside you balcony - then it's standard...

If you book a room with a park view, it's preferred...
... unless you can twist your head and see a dumpster, then it's standard...

If you book a room close to self-parking, it's preferred...
... unless you're staying at BWV where the rooms furthest from parking are preferred...

:p :p :p

I too doubt DVC will ever do a project that has different view types with varying points requirement. Still, even if they did, it would require a pretty big difference between the view options to justify a difference. IMO, the only options that are large enough to justify a difference are the BW options and the VB Inn rooms. None of the others I can think of would justify the difference. That's not to say that some rooms are preferable to another, just that the difference in overal desireability isn't enough to make it worth the hassle.
