Stacie's Journey for Weight Loss and the 1/2 Marathon Jan 09!

Thanks for checking in. The 5 miler... I did it! Thanks to my mom. I had seriouslythought about skipping it...I know, I know... But, whatever I ate for lunch yesterday just did not sit well at all on my stomach. I wasn't feeling great. But, she had her shoes on and was ready to go! I brought her the new WISH shirt she ordered and made her change. She was so cute in her new outfit. New exercise bermuda short, her lime green wish shirt! So, we went out and together did 3.6 miles. We altnerated walk/running...more walking and then at 3.6 she went in the house and I kept going. Did exactly 5 miles. I think my avg pace was around 14:40...not great, but since I missed my LR last week, but my SR got cut even shorter, I'll take it.

Word to the wise...Do not eat chicken and rice, then 20 min later got out for a run! That w/ the sport beans and gatorade...not a pretty site coming back up. I was feeling woosy the entire way home and as soon as I walked in the house...straight to the bathroom. yuk! I felt fine during the workout. Maybe it was too much gatorade??? :confused3

My hip was aching a bit after...well actually it was aching before! I tried to sleep on my stomach last night and stretch it out, but I tend to sleep on my left side and that is the hip that has be aching a bit. The legs feel ok today. A little tight behind the knees, but otherwise ok.

Tomorrow is a 3 miler and then Saturday I will go for 7. Hopefully my mom will do the first 3 with me.

I ordered a fuel belt type contraption and it's supposed to come in today. I will test it out on Saturday. I will definately need it since I will be randomly running around a small town!

Here it is...

So, I got my 5 miler in and my mom looks really cute in her WISH outfit. I hope the WISH shirts I ordered from eye2eye fit! I'm so worried about that!

Take care ya'll!
Stacie

Stacie,
CONGRATS to both you and your mom-that must be fun to run together and push each other.

I would think that it was a heavy meal to run on too.Nothing worse than feeling it the whole way.

Have a good one,
Linda

Stacie -- congrats on your 5 miler!!! And your new lil' belt is quite the fashion statement! I would love one, but it's just not in the budget after spending the $$ on new sneaks last week.. :( Gotta set my priorities right???

So, ya getting excited?!! 2 weeks!!

Hi Stacie
well done for doing the 5 miler!
loved the tote bag - i liked the yellow one :)
The watch sounds gorgeous & what a bargain!!

Hi Stacie...

How amazing that you get to run with your Mom!!! :goodvibes Sounds like she looked awesome in her new running duds!!!

I'm so sorry for you though that the food didn't settle well with you for your run :(. I've had that happen and it is NOT fun!!!! Shake it off though and be happy that you got the steps in. 5 Miles is a great distance girl!

BTW...your new fuel belt looks excellent! I really like the design!!!!

Cookies? Did I hear someone say cookies??? ;)

Great job on your 5 miler, Stacie! :thumbsup2 Sounds like you and your mom are ready for the Minnie!:cheer2:

Hope you have a great evening!

Hi Stacie!

Yeah...I'd wait at least an hour before running after eating a meal like that. About the only things I can stomach without repurcussions are energy bars, bananas and gel packs. Sorry to hear that it wasn't a pleasant experience for you.

Hope the hip is better and good luck on the 7 miler this Saturday! Maybe the change in scenery will do some good for you :goodvibes: I hope it isn't too windy near the beach :)

Have a great night!

I still feel it a couple of hours after I've eaten. That does sound like a bad mix, though, I have to say. At least it wasn't spicy! I swear by a tums before a run too.

Your new hydration transportation system looks really neato - that's a lot of liquid! But cool that you can have water in one and something with a jolt of energy in the other, plus, is that a pocket in the middle for all your snacks and phones and stuff? My pocket is so lacking on my belt, but that's the way it goes. Extra bonus if it's waterproof - that will be so nice for running around town, especially as it gets warmer! Are you going to wear it for the Minnie?

I hope your weekend was memorable & that you came back feeling refreshed, re-energized, and ready to rock the Minnie!

I just wanted to post how my 7 miler went. I will check back in the afternoon to catch up on everyone.

In case anyone is wondering...ever plan on visiting eastern NC...The Morehead side of the Beaufort/Morehead bridge over to Fort Macon is exactly 7 miles! My mom and I started out just as you cross over the bridge from Beaufort to Morehead at the waterfront. We ran through Morhead and the over the bridge to Atlantic Beach. I hear there is an overpass for the 15K so thought I should practice a bridge! Not too bad. It was kinda cool running over the Intracoastal Waterway. Then once at Atlantic Beach, we headed toward Fort Macon. My mom did the first 4 miles and then Matt joined for the last 3. The first 4 were ok. We would walk a bit, job a bit...repeat. We actually ran a bit up the bridge and most of the way down it. I will say though, those last few miles were not easy. It was hot though there was a nice breeze. My poor arms are now sunburned. Note to self. Do not run from 11 am to 1 pm. Good thing I had by hydration booty bag. I went through 42 oz of liqued and 2 packs of beans. My avg pace got slower and slower the further I went. I finished w/an avg pace 14:59. Not really what I was hoping for. I mostly walked the last few miles.

It will be interesting to see how this weekend's 8 miler goes. I think I'll be doing it alone, which I fear may actually make me slower. My mom is such a speedy walker!

Overall, it was ok. I'm done now. yay. The only lingering affects were on my right leg, just behind my knee which was super stiff on Saturday and then on Sunday, both of my hips hurt--right on my hip bones it felt like. Yesterday and today both of those issues seems to be fine. My right shin is a little sore today though. Weird. It may be weather. That is the leg I broke a few year back.

I missed my XT last night, but do plan to aquacise tonight. Tomorrow I've got a 5 miler scheduled so I'll see how I feel then.

7 miles is the furthest I've been so I was happy to make it through. That in an of itself is a victory.
Funny thing is I'm pretty concerned about the Minnie 15K and the pace. I am really banking on the excitement to get me through. I will say, knowing that there is a 16 min pace for the 1/2 Marathon...I'm feeling pretty good about that.

I do think I'm am definately a walk/run type of gal. I'm still pretty heavy so I think that is better on my joints--especially since I have an arthiritic knee. I just really have to work on my pace both when I walk and when I jog.

I think after the Minnie, I may take a week, figure out what I want my base plan to be before training for the 1/2 starts up. I may do the C25K again to work on my running. I would really like to learn how to swim better too. I know how to swim, took lessons as a kid, but I really do not have the proper technique. The Danskin Women's Triathalon they have at Disney in May is very appealing to me. I'm thinking if I can work on my swimming and biking that may be something I would like to do next year.

All for now!
Stacie

Hi Stacie!

Hey, great job completing the 7 miles!!

Just remember that from mile 5.5 till the end, it will be a pretty exciting race. The first 5.5 miles is all road and kind of boring...but then you hit Disney Studios, Boardwalk and then Epcot so that should help guide you through the last half of the race :goodvibes:

Are you eating anything before you go on the long runs? It becomes more important the further you start going, and the longer you are out there and might help with fatigue through the latter stages of the race.

And there is certainly nothing wrong with a walk/run! I think the key to success with any plan is to stick to whatever interval works best for you. It will be easy to get caught up in the excitement of the race and end up going too fast or not taking enough breaks early on. If your interval is 4w/1r (or whatever it may be) then stick to it the entire time :)

You've done a great job Stacie! You completed 7 miles!! I definitely think you'll be fine for the 15k and super good for the Half...and love that you are looking at that Triathlon! Just check the website for it...there is a minimum you have to fundraise and they require you to stay at Coronado...lots of little details...

Have a great day!

Thanks!

This is good to know! I'm sure that by going through the parks it does tend to give a little boost. :thumbsup2

Yep! I had a snickers marathon bar about and hour before and some beans. On race day I'll probably have a yogurt too. For the 5K I had yogurt and a Nutri-grain breakfast bar. Seemed to do ok w/ my tummy.

Really? I didn't see anything about fund-raising... I'm going now to see if I can find out more. Thanks!

Stacie, wow.. great job on the 7 miles!!! You should be so proud of yourself!!
I think you will do great at the 15k! Just be careful as we are so close - not to overtrain! ;)
Go easy on yourself! Can't wait to meet ya!

Stacie, here is a link to the 2008 triathalon info on the hotel and fundrasing -- there are guidelines, but it totally seems "doable" - now you have peeked my intrest, but i don't see any info yet about the 2009 one --- and i don't understand if it's 9 miles biking TOTAL, or 9 miles out EACH way (9 out and 9 back)... and what is the equiv. to a 400 yd. swim??

Great job on the 7 miler, Stacie!!!:cheer2:

Thanks for your support in my journal.

Have a great evening!

Wow, Stacie! You are doing amazing things! :thumbsup2 I am so happy for you. It's so awesome when you see the effort you put in paying off in being able to GOOOOOO for 7 miles or 5 miles or anything, really. :cool1: Your fuel belt looks very efficient, but I am glad to hear you are going to give it a trial run, so to speak. I only carry 20 oz liquid at a time. DH will barely carry that. He said the extra weight of a second water or ade bottle just isn't worth it. You may even find that you drink too much or too fast just because you are sick of the weight of the second bottle or hearing it sloshing around. I also found that some of the bottles that came with different model belts were too tall, and since I am so short, the top of the bottle would poke my back. So, you are very, very smart to try out your new belt before strapping it on for the Minnie.
Cant' wait to hear what you think of the eye2eye shirt you ordered!

Keep up the great work!! See you in about 10 days!!! :woohoo:

Wow, Stacey! you're a ROCK STAR!! :cool2: 7 miles is a HUGE distance!! You're going to do GREAT at the Minnie. I agree with Stacey - make sure to not overtrain! And listen to your body when it hurts. Sounds like your body bounces back fast!!

Also, there are no rules that say you have to run the whole distance - ever! Intervals are an awesome thing, especially when you have prior injuries. Keeping your body healthy is the key! :goodvibes

Keep up the great work, girl! :woohoo:

Hey there!! Checkin in on ya!! 7 days til i leave!!! whoooohoooo!!!!

Stacie, great job, getting in a 7 miler!! Good for you! And that is also great you are planning ahead for the next challenge. A triathalon would be an incredible experience I am sure. You can do the 8 miles on your own, just invision your speedy mom walking with you and keep working to keep up with her! You can do it and again, well done!:thumbsup2

well done on doing the 7 miles Stacie - you will sail through the Minnie :)
