What is the average I can expect to pay for a taxi from the cruise ship port to Magen's Bay for my family of five? I've read on the boards $8 but I'm unsure if this is per taxi ride or per person. Our family consists of myself, my husband and our three kiddos, ages 8, 4, and 2. Also, has anyone had experience traveling in a taxi in St. Thomas with carseat-age children but without carseats? I'm typically a stickler but unsure how to work it out logistically to have a carseat for one taxi ride. Would love to hear from those that have had experience in this area. Thanks so much!

Last week we paid $8 per person each way. There are a lot of taxis at the port and a lot of people directing you to where the taxis are. I bet some of them have car seats. Magen's Bay is beautiful; I'm sure your family will love it.

Now the last time I was in St Thomas and actually paid attention was 5 years ago. They were open air converted taxis. Not traditional in any way. They were long bench seats like you'd find on the safari ride - no way a car seat could go there. I don't recall any regular car seats.

We've done both the van taxis and the open air taxis. We had 2 year olds with us and they just rode in our laps or on the seat next to us. The speed limit on the island is 25, so no one was going anywhere fast!

We usually visit our family on St. John. When we came when the kids were 1, we rented car seats from the baby rental company along with pack n plays, high chairs, toys, all the stuff we'd need for a week. We had someone pick us up at the airport with the car seats already installed and we took the car ferry over to STJ. Last year when they were 2, we still rented car seats, but we didn't have anyone to pick us up, so we just put the kids next to us in the van. It was fine. For our cruise this fall, We'll do the same thing, and since we'll only have a day on STJ, we're not renting a jeep or car seats. The kids will be 4, so if we ride anywhere, it'll just be taxis. If we do an open air taxi, I'll sit on the outside and kids inside.

$8 pp one way for a cab. We took an open air bus thing on the way back which was a bit cheaper for us as a family of 5. I think it was more like $6 or $7 pp and we may have negotiated. I'm not sure about car seats. Magen's Beach was great! Hope to go back someday!
