I was born in st. louis and lived there until I was 8, then again for a year after college. I'd love to take my kids for a visit there, but now most family is long gone from the area, so we'd need a hotel. any suggestions?

It depends on what you want to do. And how much you want to spend. I think you could stay at any major hotel downtown and be fine. That would be a good location for the Arch, baseball game, the City Museum, zoo/forest park. I *think* there's a new hotel (a drury inn maybe) right across from the zoo and near the science center. Not sure about that though--could just be my imaginiation. You could stay in clayton or Maryland Heights, but there's not a whole lot for kids that's near there. If you're thinking of something like Six Flags, there's a Holiday Inn there.

I lived in St. Louis for two years when I was in 3rd-5th grade and for about 2 years when I was 3-4. I moved around quite a bit and would love to go back and see what it is all like now.

I have taken DH to the place where I was born and to two other places I lived. There are two places left - Derby, KS and St. Louis.

My favorite hotel is the Sheration St. Louis City Center. The rooms are HUGE and prices aren't too bad--they offer discounts pretty frequently. It's in a good location and service has always been impeccable.

We have never stayed overnight in St. Louis because we live just 2 hours away and make our trips day trips but I think there are some nice hotels in the Forrest Park area near the zoo that would be in a good central location. Make sure you go to the zoo it is really nice. :)

oh yes, the zoo, and all of forest park, is one of my favorite things about st. louis. great memories as a kid and as an adult alike. the zoo especially is important to my just-turned-5 year old son. the ones around here are awful, I miss the st. louis zoo so much. I like it better than san diego...I know, blasphemy.

thanks for the tips, all. I have stayed in a hotel in st. louis before, the hilton in frontenac, but thought staying closer to forest park would be nice.

Our band stayed her last October, nice hotel and the staff was great. It is very convenient to everything in downtown St. Louis. One MUST, MUST do with the kids is the City Museum in St. Louis. My kids LOVE this place. The art department at Washington University designed this place and it is basically a big playground with hidden tunnels, fish tanks and slides all over the place.

I would stay in Chesterfield. Lots of hotels, restaurants, etc...

I have to say that if you go to Forest Park/Zoo and want to grab a bite to eat, go to this place on the U City Loop. It is really close...:thumbsup2
That goes for all of you St. Louisan's who run to the Zoo/Forest Park and then leave. This place is pretty neat to grab something to eat instead of Zoo food.:cheer2:
