Well, today was my Chicago DIS meet.
Captain_Oblivious--Mark (a regular poster here on my PTR) sent me a message that he and his family were taking a "driving vacation" and would be in the Chicago area for two days. I told him I'd love to meet him and his family. He then told me that FreezinRafiki--Barry and his family were also going to be coming up for the two days. A double whammy DIS meet.
So the plan was while the moms took the girls to the American Girl store for shopping and lunch, I would meet the men and their sons somewhere on Michigan Avenue for lunch after they toured Wrigley Field, home of my beloved, but AWFUL, Chicago Cubs baseball team.
The plan was to meet around 12:45. Just as I got in the cab to head to the restaurant (I picked the Grand Lux Cafe), Barry texted me that they were still waiting for the El and would be a little bit late. No worries as my main boss is on vacation for two weeks and I wasn't worried about taking a longer lunch than usual (truthfully, I rarely go out to lunch).
So the men/boys arrived and we proceeded to check-in. We had about a 15-minute wait for the table. So while we sat and waited for a table, I gave the boys each a gift bag (and gave Mark and Barry one for their daughters). I totally forgot to get pictures of what I bought the kids. I got them each a Disney t-shirt that also said Chicago on it; I gave Dave and Sarah (Mark's two older children) a key chain as well, and Scotty (Mark's youngest son) and Evan and Madison (Barry's kids) got a Disney coloring item. The boys wanted to start coloring right away.
We were finally led to our table. As we looked over the menu, we the men decided to order the kids food so it would be prepared and then we'd order. Here are a pictures of hte kids meal (yes, I am a terrible DISer and forgot to take pictures of the adult meals):
Scotty had the neat looking hot dog on toasted sourdough bread with french fries (it looked like two cars to a train):
Dave and Evan had the macaroni & cheese (it was spiral shaped). It was obviously pretty darn good because Evan (Barry's son) finished all but three spirals):
Barry had chicken parmesan, Mark had a chicken meatball sandwich and I had a BLT.
We had a great time just talking about their kids, my boys, what we do, sports, etc. I really enjoyed myself. And these guys are REAL sweethearts. I know I've said it before, but 99% of the people I have met on the DIS are the absolute BEST! Thank you guys for including me in your plans and I hope to see you again soon (Barry, we will let you and Bambi know if we make it to Milwaukee next month and perhaps we can meet for lunch).
