Well, today was my Chicago DIS meet.

Captain_Oblivious--Mark (a regular poster here on my PTR) sent me a message that he and his family were taking a "driving vacation" and would be in the Chicago area for two days. I told him I'd love to meet him and his family. He then told me that FreezinRafiki--Barry and his family were also going to be coming up for the two days. A double whammy DIS meet.

So the plan was while the moms took the girls to the American Girl store for shopping and lunch, I would meet the men and their sons somewhere on Michigan Avenue for lunch after they toured Wrigley Field, home of my beloved, but AWFUL, Chicago Cubs baseball team.

The plan was to meet around 12:45. Just as I got in the cab to head to the restaurant (I picked the Grand Lux Cafe), Barry texted me that they were still waiting for the El and would be a little bit late. No worries as my main boss is on vacation for two weeks and I wasn't worried about taking a longer lunch than usual (truthfully, I rarely go out to lunch).

So the men/boys arrived and we proceeded to check-in. We had about a 15-minute wait for the table. So while we sat and waited for a table, I gave the boys each a gift bag (and gave Mark and Barry one for their daughters). I totally forgot to get pictures of what I bought the kids. I got them each a Disney t-shirt that also said Chicago on it; I gave Dave and Sarah (Mark's two older children) a key chain as well, and Scotty (Mark's youngest son) and Evan and Madison (Barry's kids) got a Disney coloring item. The boys wanted to start coloring right away.

We were finally led to our table. As we looked over the menu, we the men decided to order the kids food so it would be prepared and then we'd order. Here are a pictures of hte kids meal (yes, I am a terrible DISer and forgot to take pictures of the adult meals):

Scotty had the neat looking hot dog on toasted sourdough bread with french fries (it looked like two cars to a train):

Dave and Evan had the macaroni & cheese (it was spiral shaped). It was obviously pretty darn good because Evan (Barry's son) finished all but three spirals):

Barry had chicken parmesan, Mark had a chicken meatball sandwich and I had a BLT.

We had a great time just talking about their kids, my boys, what we do, sports, etc. I really enjoyed myself. And these guys are REAL sweethearts. I know I've said it before, but 99% of the people I have met on the DIS are the absolute BEST! Thank you guys for including me in your plans and I hope to see you again soon (Barry, we will let you and Bambi know if we make it to Milwaukee next month and perhaps we can meet for lunch).

Well, as we both get closer, I will post a FINAL park day plan and hopefully, if nothing else, we'll be at the same park one day and can at least say hello.

Absolutely - Since I am by myself I am a soo flexible. The only commitment I really have is the 5K. Pretty much anything else I would like to do is flexible.
At least a hello, maybe a ride together??

I would imagine it would be hot at the Zoo there. Didn't you also tell me they didn't have a lot of animals.

I'm hoping Andy can decide 100% soon -- first, the airfare is not bad and two -- you will love him and he will love you. Although he talks a lot so you might not get in a word! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Sorry I didn't call over the weekend; I'll call tomorrow or Wednesday from work.

You are correct, they do not have many animals and they have the nerve to charge $20 a ticket....and we say WDW is expensive :rotfl2:

I would love to meet Andy....the two of us can give the three of you guys headaches :rotfl:

Your Dismeet looks like a great time, so glad you and the boys had a wonderful visit and lunch. Meeting Disers is the best thing ever, after all I met you! :flower3:

Now you have gone and done it...you got me all teary-eyed. But you are right...if it had not been for the DIS, I would have never met my long lost sister. Love you!

It looks like you had a wonderful DIS meet. And those gifts bags sound perfect and very generous of you. You were lucky enough to be included in the DIS meet But the boys were even luckier to meet you! :flower3:

Great pix of the Meet !!! I LOVE:love: my meets with Jen and Yuki !!, Dan of course I see regularly!! Talk to him most days !!
I will definately post pix of Cleveland Zoo and make sure we take some BUTT pix too !!:rotfl2:

I'm torn as I really want him to find a job and I know what a GREAT teacher he'll be.

This is not necessarily the most popular opinion, but I think newer teachers are often better than some of the veterans. New energy and enthusiasm are so important in teaching. :goodvibes

Agree with you Nicki about zoos (we have one close to our house that's terrible and charge some exorbitant price for tickets; ditto our aquarium) and Dismeets!

Your Dismeet looked like so much fun, Kathy! Heck, it was even cool when I got to speak to you on the phone for a minute. We spend a lot of time on here, connecting and sharing, so its so amazing to be able to meet folks for real! :goodvibes

looks like you had a fun lunch with all the boys!

I so need to take Megan to the zoo this summer, we missed it last year! we have two really nice one's within 1 1/2 hours from us! thanks for all the fun photos!

hope Andy decides to go to WDW with you all!

Looks like you had a great dismeet. Those kids meals look awesome:thumbsup2

How exciting that Andy might be going to WDW for a few days.

:yay: for your DISmeet! Looks like a great time.

How funny that Evan couldn't squeeze in 3 more spirals.

And I'm glad to see the Captain rocking his Flyers shirt out there in Chicago. :thumbsup2

Boo for the job market, but  that Andy gets to join you for part of the trip!!!:woohoo:

Some really great Zoo pictures! I guess I need to come for a visit so you and Mark can show me around the place! I guess we're all getting "conditioned" for our upcoming trips to Disney with this heat! I was hoping maybe it would break some before we go, but it isn't looking that way at all. Looks like lots of afternoon breaks and pool time!!!

marv good buddy, how you been?

oh wait thats a bear, not a horse.:lmao:
I'm surprised you would make that mistake Dan, since you get to see the other one each morning in the mirror!!! :rolleyes1
