Ssr

Thanks for the positive comments on SSR! We will be taking our first trip as DVC members to SSR October 8-15. I have requested a 2nd floor room for viewing purposes. Hope a made a wise choice??? Do you think I should request staying in Congress Park building?

2. Requested a Downtown Disney View back when my mom first set up everything, didn’t get it :(

PLEASE make sure you send a note to DVC regarding this. It took years of complaints before BWV owners got their "Preferred Boardwalk View" guaranteed reservation category. There's no reason DVC couldn't do the same thing with the three "neighborhoods" at SSR if member demand justifies the move. I'd LOVE to see SSR owners get preferred bookings in Congress Park or The Springs over The Paddock.

I would request Congress Park at this stage of development, we stayed there and loved it, nice walk to DTD and really not far from the main pool, We loved Congress Park.

Thanks Huff590! I think I will do so! I will call tomorrow! Can't wait for October to get here. Kids keep asking "how much longer till Disney"?

Maybe someone can answer this for me. Are there buses to/from SSR to DTD? If so, does the bus make multiple stops at the different buildings? How often do the boats run? I'm curious why these people didn't take the boat both ways. Does it run often like the one to and from the Epcot resorts to MGM/Epcot? Is there a building/buildings that are really far from DTD? Is the Congress Park building that every one says is really close a specific booking category or just a request when you get there?

There are buses from SSR to DTD. They pick-up at the SSR bus stops and make stops at the Marketplace and Westside just like the buses from other resorts.

Your friends probably didn't take the boat both ways because they don't run as frequently as the boats at the Epcot resorts. If you time it right, it's convenient, otherwise, you could have a long wait in between boats.

As for buildings being "really far" from DTD, I guess that all depends on what you consider "really far". We have only stayed in Congress Park and we found that walk to be very convenient. Probably comparable to walking from BWV to Epcot. I can't really comment on the walk from the other buildings. I can tell you that on our last trip, we walked from the Marketplace at DTD to the Carriage House at SSR (because we got tired of waiting for the boat). That's probably close to the distance from any of the buildings that are currently open. We did that without any problem. It probably took around 15 minutes (just an estimate).

I am curious about a few things...mostly do the buildings you stayed in NOT have an elevator?

All of the SSR buildings have elevators.

This was also our first trip home to SSR,and I will always stay there. This place was awsome, my whole family fell in love with SSR, the pool is the best, and they carried all our luggage up for us it took just one call. The walk was not bad at all, we stayed at congress park close to DTD , the walk had rabbits and many birds along the way. We felt the food court was great (best breakfast) everyone was so nice and we got a welcome home from everyone. We bought some gifts from Animal Kingdom and had them delivered to our resort and when I called to see if they had arrived they said yes, and I told I would pick them up in the morning but she ask would I like them that night and guess what she brought them to the room, what a surprise, thats never happened before. At the bus stop the driver let my wife sit in his seat while I took her picture. It just seemed like the whole resort was there just for us. Anyway I just wanted to say after alot of bad things we read before the trip just remember everyone looks at things in differant ways, while some dont like SSR we love it.

It is interesting how the same resorts can get such different views. Which is why I never advise anyone to make a decision about whether to avoid a resort due to Internet reviews. Try it at least once and form your own opinions.

I agree about Artist's Palette, we really enjoyed it.

That answers my question about any specific booking categories like "boardwalk view". I agree with you that SSR owners should have the 11 mos window to book the DTD view. That is in fact one of the big reasons we bought a BWV resale over a BCV resale-the guaranteed view of the boardwalk. Are the rooms with the DTD view also the closest buildings to DTD? (I'm talking about walking distance) If so, I can see how they would be very desired by members or anyone else checking in. :flower:

There are four buildings that line the waterway that separates SSR from DTD. That area is called Congress Park. From those buildings it takes as little as 5 minutes to walk to DTD (yes, I timed it. :) )

Another 3 buildings in a neighborhood called The Springs are right across the street from the main pool, gift shop and restaurant.

Those two areas (7 total buildings) are likely to be the most sought-after of the first 12 units constructed.

We stayed the SSR in March at the Springs. Our building had just opened the day before and we were the first in our room. It smelled so new - what a treat.
We really liked being able to park outside of our biulding and the short walk to the room. That really is nice after being at VWL.
We had taken a bus to Downtown Disney and shopped around. We couldn't find the boat dock to SSR so we just walked. I didn't time it but it wasn't a bad walk; we also didn't hurry.
We're thinking about going back again.
