We are considering purchasing 150 pts at SSR. I have a couple of questions.
1) How realistic is it to go back to SSR for lunch? Particularly if we are at MK or AK?
2) Would you recommend driving to the attactions in Disney, or would be take the bus transfer? DVC told me that the shuttle runs every 15 minutes.
3) What is provided with the room? Towels? Bedding? Maid service? Will they provide a port-a-crib?
4) I have never been to DTD (we have always stayed at the Poly and am usually at MK until after 9 pm) is there anything for young children to do (besides shopping)?
5) Finally, does anyone know what Disney's future plans are for the area? Are additional resorts or attractions planned for the area close by.

Thanks :bounce:

I'll try to tackle some of these.

1) How realistic is it to go back to SSR for lunch? Particularly if we are at MK or AK?

I'm not sure how to answer this. If you want to head back to take an afternoon break when the parks will be open in the evening, it's certainly doable. If you want to run back just to eat, it would be kind of inconvenient.

2) Would you recommend driving to the attactions in Disney, or would be take the bus transfer? DVC told me that the shuttle runs every 15 minutes.

I always take the buses. The bus is certainly the way to go when you go to MK since it drops you off by the entrance gate. If you drive, you have to take the ferry or monorail from the parking area.

3) What is provided with the room? Towels? Bedding? Maid service? Will they provide a port-a-crib?

The rooms are fully equipped with just about everything imaginable. These include a port-a-crib and a high chair. Maid service at DVC resorts is slightly different. At first it sounds shocking but almost every member finds it really is no big deal and many come to enjoy it. They do not provide daily service. (You can get it for a fee.) On a stay of 8 nights or more, they will come and do a full cleaning on the fourth day and what they call "Trash & Towel" and on the 8 day. If you are staying less than 8 nights, you get the Trash & Towel on the 4th day. T&T means they come and take the trash (although you can conveniently dump it yourself on other days) and replenish the towels. 1 bedrooms and larger have washer/dryers in the unit so refereshing towels is no big deal. Studio owners have free use of w/d but must provide detergent. You can also pay $6 for a complete set of towels for the unit.

4) I have never been to DTD (we have always stayed at the Poly and am usually at MK until after 9 pm) is there anything for young children to do (besides shopping)?
There are all kinds of activities and lots of young children roaming with their families. One thing that comes to mind is the Lego Play area.

5) Finally, does anyone know what Disney's future plans are for the area? Are additional resorts or attractions planned for the area close by.

While in your mind this area may seem "far away", it really isn't. It is less than a 10 minute drive to the Boardwalk area. Typhoon Lagoon is around the corner as are MGM and Epcot. It is on the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course, next to OKW and very close to Port Orleans. I'm not sure what future things Disney has planned.
Right offsite is a growing area where the Premium Outlets have been built (near the Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine) and where I believe Dolly Parton's new restaurant opened this summer. I'm not sure where Disney plans their next attraction.

SSR for lunch works if you plan on taking an afternoon break for swim or rest at the resort. But if I was at MK and wanted lunch out of the park I would visit one of the monorail resorts or take a boat to WL. At AK I would hop a bus to AKL or go to the Rainforest Cafe outside of AK.

15 minute bus intervals probably only occur at peak times (morning and evening). Most bus intervals stretch during the day to as much as 30 minutes. We liek using WDW transporation, including the bus system. We do not drive when we are on property, even when at OKW. Others will have different views.

Studios
Wet bar, mini-refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, linens, and a start-up supply of bath soap, towels, shampoo, and coffee. Also included are tissues, paper towels, paper plates, plastic silverware, and dishwashing detergent

One, Two, Three Bdrm Units
Linens, towels, washer and dryer, master suite with a whirlpool tub, a full kitchen with major appliances, dishware, dishwashing supplies, and a start-up supply of bath soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and coffee.

Houskeeping, if consistent with other DVC resorts is for a stay less than eight nights, you'll receive Trash & Towel service on day four. For a stay for eight nights or longer, you'll receive full cleaning service on day four, and Trash & Towel service on day eight.

I believe all DVC units come with a Grace Pack-n-Play Crib.

I have no idea what additional attractions they plan for the area. DTD has expanded quite a bit (I suspect in reaction to CityWalk) in the past decade. There is a DVC resort planned for Eagle Pines and additional phases of SSR.
