Hello all been on the boards alot lately and almost ready to pull the trigger. However the only DVC we can get from disney is SSR but the family will have it no other way then to stay at the BCV. If i buy SSR that gives me only 7 months to book BCV. How hard is it to get another resort if it is not your home resort. Or should I wait for a listing from TTS.

Thanks

if the family only wants bcv - then buy bcv! have you told your guide that you will go resale for bcv rather than settle for ssr? i think you should be able to waitlist thru dvc for bcv if that is what you want. if your guide tells you that you can't waitlist with them, then head to tts and tell them what you want - don't wait to see it listed anywhere.

ready - aim - shoot!

:goodvibes

I agree, if BCV is where you really want to stay, then purchase there to give you the 11/7 window advantage. 7 months can be challenging to book at non-home resorts, depending upon time of year, size of accomodations wanted, etc.

DVC resorts have different themes to appeal to diferent tastes, if SSR doesn't meet your crtiteria, then purchase at the resort you want...but I would definitely go through resale rather than waiting for Disney to have a large enough block of points for a "new member" contract at a sold out resort.

BCV is one of the smaller DVC resorts and it is also very popular due to its pool complex. There is a lot of competition to get BCV at the 7 month window - as you know, any DVC owner can reserve BCV at the 7 month window.

In addition to that, the smaller BCV contracts (less than 150 points) are a hot commodity. Those who buy them are seeking the home resort advantage and tend to use it. That means less availability at 7 months than there may have been in the past.

Can non-BCV owners get in at 7 months? Yes, sometimes they can, but there is no guarantee and oftentimes, they have to use the waitlist.

Should you buy BCV?
* Yes, if you would not be happy staying at SSR if BCV is not available.
* Yes, if you wouldn't be comfortable using the waitlist (or moving back and forth if it didn't come through).
* Yes, if you want to go to WDW during the times that BCV is more difficult to reserve. (Right now, the more difficult times are all the times except Jan to mid-February, May and September).
* No ,if you can't plan more than 7 months in advance.
* No, if the extra 12 years at SSR means a lot to you.

Since you say "the family will have it no other way then to stay at the BCV", my advice is to look for a BCV resale contract and figure out how to book your vacations 10 - 11 months ahead of time.

Best wishes -

You can purchase BCV points from WDW and right now it probably works out cheaper to buy direct then resale (I really cannot believe I just typed that!)

Buy BVC, thats where you seem to want to stay. Tell DVC its BVC or nothing. Eventually a contract will come along.

Also look at the TSS, E-Bay, Redweek and TUG for resales.

Good Luck to you!!

Buy at BCV if that is where your family wants to be! Something will come along.

But....depending on your travel schedule, having the 7 month window usually is ok as long as you dont have to travel based on the school calendar. We just booked at BWV (7 mth window) no problem, and on the phone with Member services, they had availability at every resort except BCV (so that may be your issue).

Good Luck
Eric

We have stayed at BCV twice booking at the 7 month window with no problems. It depends on the time of year your want to go. If you are planning to go during the busy times, Like Christmas for example, you will not be able to get in. If you go during the less busier seasons, you shouldn't have a problem.

Correct. Book your stays anywhere from mid-January through February, non-holiday, and you should be alright.

Tough to disagree with that!

I agree if that's the one u really want go for it. For us staying atthe different resorts is just something like to try and do, but really in the end any one of them is just fine with us, they are all great resorts.

On the weekends. :teeth:

Seriously, all you have to do is browse threads to get a feel for how many people ask this question. Then look at the premium price BCV resales go for. The first will tell you that you will have some competition at seven months, the second will tell you that BCV owners are loyal to their home - no one is paying a premium for their home so they can stay at a different resort.

This is simply NOT true. You can buy BCV direct from Disney...if they have the points you want available. For some use years, you might run into a long waitlist, but for others you might get your points immediately.

If your family will not be satisfied anywhere but BCV, AND IF you can normally book 7+ months in advance, then buy BCV. (If you can't normally book more than 7 months ahead, it really doesn't matter where you own because you won't be using the 11 month window.)

If your guide won't sell it to you, request to speak to a manager or get another guide. If they won't or can't sell you BCV, then buy resale.

Our guide had us pay a $500 downpayment to lock in before the pricde increase last month. It was not a binding contract. We told him we wanted to be on the BCV waitlist but would settle :furious: WLV at the $92/pt price. Well, as it worked out, we found a 200pt BCV on teh secondary market and cancelled the deal with our guide. He really made me feel guilty, almost like the "it's not you it's me" speech you give your girlfriedn in 8th grade.

Anyways, I would ahve told him earlier, but I wanted it to pass ROFR on it's own without any interference from DVC. Supposedly, I heard that if you get into their database and start discussing things and then your name shows on a re-sale there is a higher chance of them buying it to prevent a lost prospect to the resale market.
