SSR: (Update p. 2) Anyone skeptical when they purchased? What was the outcome?

Beca: First of all, I've liked all your posts that I have read, I think you are very nice. I think you said you had like 540 BCV (or more pts) because you love the place so much. DW, son and myself used 427 pts to go on a Disney Cruise. Do you use your BCV points to do stuff like that, I'm just curious. OUCH!! One thing about owning at SSR, I know the priority advantage isn't there, but I think using points from there don't sting as much. What do you think? :goodvibes Matt

Hi Matt,

We have not used our points for anything but stays at WDW. We keep saying we are "going" to, and then DH looks at the number of points it takes to do things and says, "No way is that worth it...let's just plan more trips to Beach Club"....yep...he has the same problem I do.

I'm not sure if I follow why you think it doesn't sting so much at SSR? Is it because it is easy to add-on in your use year if you use all your points on a cruise ( ;) )? Seriously, I am kind of "points stingy"....I think it would definitely hurt to use ANY points in that kind of way. I did pull out an old "Vacation Guide" to think about using some points in Europe (possibly Austria or Disneyland Paris), and oh my goodness!!! We decided that we would just do Europe on cash!! ::yes:: But, really....we have always had to borrow points every year, so I don't know why I was considering trading out of the system....I don't have enough points!!!! Now if only that add-on would come thru!!!

Hi Beca: I'm with you, I tell my wife we should always be in a "slightly borrowing mode" from year to year. What I meant by SSR points not "stinging" as much is because I believe that SSR does not enjoy the priority advantage that BC does. And the fact that the mf are higher for now at BCV.

I guess what I'm saying is that if all I owned was BVC, it would be harder for me to part with those pts for other purposes.

So maybe I feel more freedom to do other things like II exchanges or the Alaska cruise, for example. I am planning to add on at BCV, but not a high number, I just own at SSR now. The II exchanges that Disney participates in are now on our dvcmember website. :badpc: Matt

Got it!! I guess that really does make sense about the MF's making it easier (and cheaper to trade). Good luck with your BCV add-on!! Depending on your UY, you might want to get on the list now...I'm sure you know it can take a long time to get those points.

Have fun on the Alaska cruise...I would LOVE to take a cruise through there...a cold cruise...that's MY kind of vacation!!

Nope!

We vacation during the less busy months, with the exception of Spring Break. SSR is great. Plus, I'm sure we'll be able to try all the other properties almost whenever we wish.

Just booked our first trip. We're going to OKW the week prior to Easter! We will probably be at BWV or BCV the first week of October. If not, SSR or WVL will be just fine.

go for it:)

I love SSR. When I hear the trumpet call I know I'm home. I only wish it had a better restaurant but I have been promised that is being looked at. We've stayed at OKW and SSR and definetly prefer SSR.

It pays to be skeptical when spending this amount of money.. We bought SSR and love it, all the sites have there benefits but I really like being close to DTD and PI. We have also used our points to go to Maui and Charlston SC. The interval (world passport) sites are not expensive (points) at all but the wait time for the best vacation spots can be two years. Fortunatly they allow you to book two years out. The concierge collection can take a lot of points but these are first rate accomodations in prime resort areas. I would not use do it to often but for a special trip it may be worth it. Just be sure you buy enough points, I get at least one WDW vacation a year, then play around with the rest of the points. Plus you must learn the skill of banking and borrowing.
