I was browsing the Web and came across some photos of Saratoga Springs (in upstate NY)

Does anyone else think that photo farthest to the right (image of artist retreat) looks eerily similar to the SSR artist's renderings?

I thought it was pretty cool!

Better yet....look at the Yaddo artist's retreat home page. I am guessing this is what DVC is trying to recreate.

Neat to look at if you're into the origin of the theme.

Thanx for these pictures. My wife is from upstate NY (30 min from SS), and when we visit next I am going to Saratoga Springs for lunch. I can't wait to compare!

That's Yaddo--a Gorgeous place indeed!

It's a year round artists colony, artists (including studio arts, writers, musician/composers, etc.) from all over the world are invited to stay there and work in the incredible surroundings.

The property sits in the middle of a huge estate which is closed to teh public most of the time, but a few dys a year they allow the public to roam a portion of the grounds and take in teh beautiful gardens.

If you have actually seen the property you wouldn't see a lot of similarity. The similarity between DVC's SSR and Saratoga Springs, NY is seen if you drive down Union Avenue or North Broadway. The area around the flat track is filled with gorgeous old mansions. The SSR reminds me more of the Canfield Casino, or maybe Cady Hill. or possibly the Hall of Springs or Glen sanders Mansion.

If you've never been to Saratoga--it's an amazing place to visit, with year round activities.

I've never actually visited Saratoga Springs but was particularly impressed with the images of the main yaddo mansion. In comparing the latest shape of the SSR construction (I'll see if I can locate that link), there is a tremendous resemblance between one of the buildings shown and the mansion. I would love to go up to Saratoga Springs and take a look around. Could be a nice trip between now and fist time home!

We visit the Yaddo gardens year-round - though I've never even tried in winter ;-) - and I'd say a good portion are open to the public. I see you can now "reserve" the gardens for a wedding, with a suggested donation which I feel is only appropriate. http://yaddo.org/yaddo/YaddoGardens.shtml

I think it reminds me most of Hall of Springs
