Hi

Currently staying at SSR.

When going to use the Fitness Centre I have been told that the locker room, sauna and steam room are no longer accessible to DVC guests.
You can use the fitness centre but you are not allowed to use the locker room, the sauna or the steam room.

Evidently this is a change in policy that has been agreed with DVC...

Anyone heard of this at all as it seems extremely poor that you cannot access the sauna/steam/locker room compare to other Disney/DVC resorts.

First I've heard of this

Anyone have any comments

There was a thread on this a few weeks ago -- so, yes that is the policy now. I believe it's because the spa is independently owned, not Disney, and since the fitness center is available, you don't need to go to the spa -- they probably had too many non-spa customers in there.

(not giving an opinion on what I think - just what was reported on the previous thread).

Thats a pity, although I didn't use it often it was great to go into the sauna. Also they made a big deal about being able to use the spa in promoting SSR....

Yes, they sure did. :(

And you can use the Spa. It's just a fee. I don't ever really recall getting the feeling I was getting "Free Spa treatments" when buying DVC. I always assumed a "spa" was a feature I would pay to use.

This is a disappointing change. Certainly nobody expected free spa treatments, but access to steam rooms, saunas, whirlpools, etc is an integral part of most gyms. Many people enjoy using one or more of those after a workout.

Unless there was an actual problem of DVC owners interfering with usage by Spa clients, I'd say this is a dumb policy. Within their rights, of course, but dumb marketing. It certainly doesn't make our family more likely to use the SSR Spa! If the Spa doesn't want DVC members in their facility, that's fine with us.

Saunas, spas etc are not all standard for hotel gyms. (neither are locker rooms or showers) And thats what we really have here. By those standards the SSR fitness center is very nice! Generally the only nicer ones are at places like the Ritz where the often charge you to use the center.

If you look over your SSR contract, mention is made that the spa is really not part of SSR. It is not guaranteed.
