Just spoke with our guide. She mentioned that the equivilant of two of the original four buildings have already been sold. Also, it is true that December use year is "sold out" for new members but remains available to current members for add on.

Holy smokes! Many here thought that SSR would be a dud (not me).
I can't wait to go see the model for myself in another two weeks...

Anyone know what % of the the total is sold for SSR? How many buildings will there be total if 2 are sold out?

We just added on 100 at SSR:D

I really hope they build at the Contemporary or Eagle Pines.

I wouldn't mind another heavily themed resort like VWL.

I did some calculations. (My assumptions may be wrong or even my calculations.)

One building has about 50 units. Figuring that they are two bedroom units that would result in somewhere in the range of 700,000 - 800,000 points a year per building. If they have sold an equivalent of 2 buildings, that would be 1,400,000 to 1,600,000 points.

If an average contract is say, 200 points, that would be 7,000 to 8,000 contracts. Does that seem possible?

All I can say is WOW!. Ok I can say a little more than that. I am shocked and impressed with DVC. I am one that thought sales would be sluggish. Splash water in my face. DVC sells itself. It is staggering that this continues with the poor economy this decade. Maybe there is hope for Eagle Pines, or whatever else they want to do. It just proves that with the more membership the more important those 11 month windows compared to 7 month windows will be at each members home resort.

The only way I will buy more points is if they built a DVC accessible to the monorail. Until that time occurs I am thrilled with my 2 resorts and visiting the others when the opportunity occurs.

I think the big thing about the SSR is the full 50 years. We waited for it to be released to buy from Disney and after one failed resale attempt, we felt good about buying SSR because we were getting more (the additional years) for the additional cost of buying from Disney.

Also it helps SSR's stats that all the other on-site resorts are sold out.

Yes, I agree with a week economy to have such strong sales is scarry. I think there is a point at which sales will start to ecline because most people that are will to put up 12 to 15K to own the Disney dream have already bought.

I would expect to see sales start to slow and then slowly decline at first and then much quicker. For you MBA types, this is similar to the a product curve (introduction, growth, maturity, decline).

So if:
Intro - OKW
Growth - BWV, BCV, VWL, This may still be SSR
Maturity - Contempory, Eagle Pines
Decline - Polynesian, California Disney, Animal Kingdom (Wishfull Thinking)

And all of our dreams will come true!!

I believe that the $79/point right now also adds to the sales. That, along with the 50 year term, is definitely making me consider this resort when I probably wouldn't have bothered.

Wow, I'm also impressed by those figures!

We really looking forward to touring the models and seeing the construction and just maybe we might be purchasing an add-on too, maybe. :D

So the possibility of introducing an AP discount to help boost sagging SSR sales is out the window. ;)

Oh well. I'm glad to see SSR sales are going well. I think a strong SSR will give DVC more clout, and that's good for all of us.

This is a HUGE resort. Anyone wonder if it will affect park crowding?
:crowded:
I think Disney better build a new park before they build any more DVC!::yes::

I dont think it will effect the crowds. This was a resort for many years, full of guests visiting the parks..........

We just bought our first 200 points at SSR, mostly now because of the 10% credit deal and the extension to 2054. I've been on the fence for the last several years regarding purchasing at DVC, and since I keep coming back to WDW and sepending over $200 pernight at the resorts, it seemed time to take the plunge. Now we can bring more friends and family, too. We are getting a FEb use year. Now we have to take the tour when we stay at the BW Inn next month!

We got to see the SSR model on Saturday and it's awesome! We were very impressed with it.

I think that's a little extreme.

At max occupancy, a single SSR resort building could hold 376 guests (8 x 44 2B plus 12 x 2 Grand Villa). That's 4512 guests for the entire 12-building plan at MAXIMUM occupancy.

I have some older figures (about 2 yrs old) that indicate WDW has as many as 70,000 guests during the peak holiday seasons. Do you really think you would notice a 5% increase in park guests during Christmas or Easter?

You also need to consider the fact that DVC owners are mostly WDW fanatics. Many of us just buying into SSR for the first time had previously stayed at other WDW resorts. So, in a sense, DVC is taking some business away from the other resorts. You can't automatically assume that everyone buying into SSR is a brand new Disney fan.
