I'm traveling the wednesday before thanksgiving and the resort is expected to be on full ocuppancy. We have requested a room in the springs because is the closest to the main building.
I was wondering if at SSR, rooms are assigned at check in or are pre-assigned. We will be arriving late, probably after 8pm and will not like it if we are sent to the last available room if the farthest building.
If rooms are pre-assigned, how do they prioritize your requests? based on the date of the reservation or is there other criteria?
Thanks for your input.

There is no real way to know just which room assignment process is being used at any given time with DVC. The fact that it is a holiday and you are arriving late does not bode well for getting any of your requests though. Did you request non-smoking for medical reasons or a non-handicapped room? Location could be the least of your worries arriving late.

We stayed at SSR last December and they were using Room Ready. We checked-in around 10:30am and were given a choice of 3 rooms. The CM showed us exactly where the rooms were on a map, told us which floor they were on, and we picked the room we wanted.

But, I agree with Diane, you have no way of knowing in advance which system they will be using. If rooms are pre-assigned, they do not take the date of the reservation into account when assigning. I'd recommend listing as few requests as possible--just the important ones. If you list 5 different requests, and the resort can't meet them, they'll just end up making a "best guess" and may end up not accommodating one of your really important requests (like smoking preference or floor if you have mobility issues.)

If you don't get a room in The Springs, remember you can take ANY bus from the Congress Park bus stop (which is about a 30-second walk from any room in CP) over to the stop by the main pool. It really is quite painless.

I would have member services note your reservation that you will be arriving late. It wouldn't hurt to call the front desk in the morning of your day of arrival to make sure they have it noted. Even with pre-assigning, if someone who arrives earlier isn't happy with their room, they may switch it with someone who hasn't arrived yet.

In both July and last week when I went to OKW and BW, they were both using "room ready". I called the morning I was due to arrive at OKW, and I was preassigned due to a health issue, and they were NOT HAPPY to hear from me. As a matter of fact, it was suggested that I might be happier at one of the other DVC resorts, and they would be happy to switch me! :earseek: You might want to rethink calling them. ;)

Cruella, why would they mind hearing from you? After traveling for 2 days with H/A DS I plan on calling just before leaving our hotel in the morning to let SSR know about what time we are arriving. I'm hoping at that time they can give me a good idea what time our pre assigned H/A GV will be ready and what building. You make it sound like this may make someone very unhappy :teeth: .
