SSR Report

Doc, thanks for the updated. I wasn't expecting them to level the Bungalows so soon.. Very intersting. Did you see if the Grand Vista Suites were still there? Those are the 4 single family homes that were on a cul-de-sac by the Fairway Villas. I have wondered what they had planned to do with those..

The Grand Vista Suites are still there, but will not be part of SSR. They are in the area near the Fairway Villas.

Originally posted by Granny Can you tell what the pool looks like it will be? Just wondering since the renderings seem to be a little hard to see how the pool will set up.

The pool will be located in front of the four buildings now under construction. The end of the former DI site nearest DD now has a retention pond, retained woods and a paved pathway leading to the sidewalk to DD. The walkway follows the lake in that area and joins the DD sidewalk about 50 yards from the DD bus stop.

The SSR buildings are really coming along- they are finishing the concrete work on the 3rd and 4th floors of the second building and have made noticeable progress during the 6 days we've been here. The buildings will have 4 floors and are larger than the OKW buildings. I was told today that they have picked up the construction pace to minimize future disruption once the resort opens (in about 12 months).

Since they will be moving the sales center to SSR, they do need to have a lot completed to begin sales. They appear to be headed towards that goal in earnest! :)

Stay Tuned!

Thanks for the update Doc. I had been wondering about the fate of the Grand Vista Suites..

Sorry in advance for the dumb question, but when is SSR expected to open?

Great report Doc. Sounds like summer of 2004 will be easy....isn't it called for a Spring opening?

Why would the weekends have lower occupancy? Everyone says I am crazy for saying weekends are less utilized. Everyone wants proof and now I have you, thanks!!!!

I am jealous, I was there a few weeks aga and The Rascals were playing....Flo and Eddie are great.,,,,they are so happy...together.

Those concerts sound like a great time!!

Will the SSR proprty be shared with something other than DVC?
What are/were the Grand Vista Suite?

Any sign of the Fairfiled property development, Doc?

At one point Disney had planned on building homes on Disney Property, this was long before Celebration was even a thought. Sometime in the early to mid 70s. They built 4 models which were essentially single family homes, 2 to 3 bedroom ranches. When Disney decided not to build these homes the models remained and Disney rented them out as luxurious Grand Vista Suites. They are over right by the fairway villas. I have never stayed there, but knew people who did and they said they were very nice.

SSR will be a DVC resort- there are no plans for a non-DVC section of the resort. The Grand Vista's won't be included. They look like normal ranch-style homes. As sgtdisney mentioned, the had 2-3 BRs but had an occupancy of 6.

All of the old bungalows are now gone- the last one came down this week. It looks really strange to see the Spa clearly from Buena Vista Drive (through the barricade screens) as you drive by. It appears that the classroom area of DI- where the TV studio was- will be used for something. They are reroofing/upgrading that structure now.

There is a lot of activity at the Fairfield site. Large construction cranes are evident from the road. The entrance is completed- except for a small gravel section to discourage onlookers. The roadway doesn't allow clear vision of the resort area- so I have no experience with the appearance of the resort itself.
