SSR rent a car or take buses?

We did it fine with the bus and monorail. If you want to venture out a little other than Disney, then you need a car.

SSR is our home and we LOVE it there. That being said it is also the reason we started renting a car. Both DH and I enjoy the bus transportation and really have had no HORRIBLE experiences. However with two yound kids time can be an issue. As others have mentioned, if you eat or visit other resorts then the multiple transfers can be a bit crazy. 1900 Park Fare is a must do for us...eating with Cinderella for little girls...and buffet for daddy!!! In addition waiting for all the stops at the buses is another time consuming factor. If you are the first ones on...you are last off....and vice versa. We have also had pretty good luck with rental cars with only spending about $150 for the week. Not that money is not an issue but to us the $150 is well worth us being able to come and go when we (and more importantly) the girls are ready. One last plus....SSR and OKW - parking right outside your villa!!!!

I rent a car every single time, but hardly ever use it while onsite. We always take the bus to visit the parks in recent years. We are never in a hurry. Taking the bus is convenient and just adds to our relaxed enjoyment of the trip. My young son enjoys talking to me during those bus trips. We only use the car if we need to go offsite, like grocery shopping, eating out, or visit other non-Disney parks.

I know that everyone talks about the pour bus service at SSR but we have never had a problem. The first couple of trips we rented a car and it sat in the parking lot. We gave that up and now use the Magical Express to get to SSR and the buses to get around the parks. Not an issue for us and saves a lot of money.

I find it very hard to believe that the bus service at OKW and SSR are much different. We just stayed at BWV and BLT in October. And I will never complain about the BLT bus service again (maybe not much). BWV's bus service is a bit lengthy especially if you go to DTD.

The real advantage to driving versus taking the bus is that you are in control of the time you depart for the park or leave the park. And you don't have to share your vehicle with others. The worse part of driving, you often have to park a long way away and will need to wait on the parking tram to get back and forth. I think driving to MK is the most time consuming because you have to park so far away and ride either a ferry or monorail to the park.

we found if you are staying on property the bus transportation is quite good
if you want to travel other places off property a car is nice to have

when staying at ssr if you have ADR's at another resort you can always go to DTD to catch a bus to make your ADR. I would still leave 90 to 60 mins early, arrive early and enjoy some drinks in the lounge before dinner

I've been to Disney World many times in the past at many different resorts and have always used the Disney bus system. It is a good system and if you dont mind to wait for your bus I would stick with the bus system. The only thing is that with a car you would be capable to go where you want when you want with not having to wait for a bus or having to stand up because the bus is full. The bus route within SSR is long with many stops, so if you are at the end of the route within the resort area you might have to stand up for many transfers.

Some people look at cost, but I dont like driving on vacation especially at WDW. I would much rather wait on the bus, than wait in traffic or be reminded of driving to work.
I can opt to drink at dinner and not worry about driving. If I have someplace I need to be, I budget the car rental money for cabs.

In Sept, my bff and I stayed at SSR without a car. Neither one of us wanted to be bothered with the rental, tolls, parking, etc. We taxi'd to the outlets one evening and to dinner once. Other than that, we relied on the busses at SSR and they were great. We walked or boated to DTD, went to happy hour at HOB, bussed to dinner at Kona via DTD and used ME back and forth to MCO.
I love Disney transportation and it is one of the reasons I love WDW. I want to relax for a few days and not worry and stress, I can do that at home:goodvibes
