SSR Price per point guesses?

I think BCV sales are starting to slow because of the current price. I think one reason DVD started invoking RoFR is because too many sales were being lost to the resale market, the price gap was just too great to justify purchasing thru DVC. I think the finally couple of months prior to SSR sales will be the determining factor. I don't read the add-on excitement for SSR that I remember BCV had.

Granny-
You mentioned Doc's pictures were posted. Where? I am curious to see them.

Dean-Do you really think that there will not be a great interest in this location, other than DVC members adding-on?
I am hoping for a great resort and spa for members.

The benefits of all of the DVC resorts have been debated numerous times, but what do you (anyone) think the benefits of SSR will be? For me, the theme of it all is intersting. Being from NY and one who travels"upstate" and loves that area of NY, I think SSR will be a great resort unto itself.

I feel the demand will be very slow compared ot BWV and BCV. I suspect it will be a great resort in it's own way. I'm having trouble imagining someone saying "I don't care if the points are as high as BCV, I want to own at SS" It's bascially an OKW location with likely the higher points structure and smaller rooms. I'm sure many will be just fine with it but not nearly as many as the last two resorts. Still, DVC has shown the ability to sell on site resorts so I suspect they'll come up with a kicker to to get it going. Also with essentially no VB, HH or other resort to compete with, that will help some. Just my opinion at thie point, we'll see how things go.

Dean,

I would agree with an earlier comment you made. I have a suspicion that SSR will not sell well and this very well could be the last DVC resort or at least this phase of the program.

Time will tell.

Since I started this thread, it's only fair that I should throw in my opinion (which I forgot to do on my first post)!

I think that SSR will have limited interest from current DVC members. VWL and BCV quick sellouts were enhanced, IMHO, by being part of an already successful resort. I think that people can get very used to a particular resort, especially the deluxe ones, so buying a DVC membership at an existing deluxe resort provides a built-in customer demand base. SSR will not have much of that going for it.

BCV sales were aided in part also by SAB. It will be interesting to see what the "hook" is for SSR to spur sales.

I am sure it will be a wonderful resort, and we'll probably stay there at some point. But I have a feeling that SSR could become the "Vero Beach of WDW". :)

Disney will undoubtedly raise the price. I agree that somewhere near $90 a point. Why wouldn't they raise the price? You can always discount a higher price with MB and other incentives. It makes new members feel like they're getting a great deal. So raise the price....watch sales.....and adjust accordingly.

BTW, I am almost certain that SSR will have the same ending date as the other DVC resorts. Unless that's the "hook" that DVD marketing uses to sell there. :)

Great comments everyone...thanks for the input!:)

The theme of Saratoga, does not really appeal to me, When I think of a Florida vacation, OKW, BC, BWV, themeing really fits, the VWL, while not very Floridian, as mentioned before was already a successful "Disney" venue. I think it is going to take a lot of work to sell SSR.

The DI , correct me if im wrong, did not seem to me to be a very successful resort, not lately anyway.

What will the draw be to stay downtown, when you have the other locations.

I wonder what they were thinking, did they just want to utilize underutilized space??

If they wanted a BCV / BWV like success then they should have built in the MK loop.

Just my opinion, everyone has their own preferences, I really do hope I am wrong.

I just got it from a reliable source that the abbrevation for the new Saratoga Springs resort will be WWTT (What were they thinking!)

Granny: That is my point exactly in predicting a new end date. They need a hook and what better one than to go back to the original 50 years? And what a better way to justify a price increase? DVC 2, end date 2054.

They will not have a new ending date just for SS. If there's a new ending date, look for EP and possibly other DVC resorts to happen.

Very good point re: the built in attraction of a particular resort for new purchasers. They already like/love the place and want to come back.

So, given the seemingly skeptical and lukewarm response for those who posted here, what incentive might convince you to purchase?

Some that come to mind for me:
*free passes to all parks through 2010, or
*no maitenance fees for the first 5yrs., or
*purchase/add-on price of the original DVC purchase price-or close to it.(I do not know what that was-I think my earliest paperwork offered $58 per point, or maybe that was a dream!!)

Then of course there is the old retail reliable:

*buy one get one free. For every point you purchase, you get one free!!(e.g. buy 100, get 200)
Of course, I have not figured these out dollars and cents wise-just off the top of my head. I am sure some are VERY unlikely. I can dream can't I?

So far no one has actually come out and said "The price will decrease". So I'll do it! I have nothing to lose.

"The Price Will Decrease". Within two years of the start of sales, the official selling price will drop below $84.

It's kind of like bidding $1 on The Price Is Right. It's a long shot but it may pay off.

I just can't see "sort of like Old Key West except the rooms are smaller" as drumming up a lot of sales. Neither will "it's all we have right now".

I just bought into DVC (well in the process of closing) at the BCV. I was discuissing with my mother (she owns various timeshares and point systems through other vacation clubs.) She is ecstatic with SSR. The main reason is that we are originally from upstate NY, and as a child her aunt owned the The Excelsior at Saratoga Springs. For the first time, she is considering buying into DVC.

Now, it may have been part of the "hook", but we were told that presales would be starting around July 1, and we should expect a price increase to coincide with the sales of SSR. We were told that DVC is closing the offices at the BWV withing the next couple months, so they will release the points for the rooms that they have been occupying. They also said that BCV were at 87% sold. With less than 1000 points availabe at VWL, the only real option for new DVC'ers would be SSR.

Thoughts? BTW, all of dealings have been with Gib McCain (any thoughts on him as a Guide? He seemed to be pretty down to earth).

Maybe they'll jack up the price, to $90 or thereabouts, and throw in a perk or two: complimentary park admission, or Disney Dollars, or credit that can be applied to the Disney Cruise or to a Disney Visa card.

In other words, the sort of incentives car dealers offer that make you feel like you are getting more than you really are.

It all depends on what would be more profitable for Disney, doesn't it?

I think the marketing "hook" for new buyers will be the Spa. I think they will pitch it as a chance for parents (esp. moms) to have a world class spa right at the resort. I think they will market it with a campaign similar to the Cruise line- that parents and kids are happy staying at the same place and have different but amazing experiences.

I think it will open at $84 and go to $87-88 in 3-4 months with a lot of warning to encourage strong pre-sales and opening sales. I think it will have more limited appeal to DVCers.

I can't believe that a poster was told that Disney doesn't raise point prices. I really wish the kiosk guides would quit passing out misinformation:mad:

I am sure that the rep at the kiosk was referring to the fact that the points per night are inflation proof(not economy proof) .

That is a true fact , they may be reallocated but never go up without going down in another area.

Probably just a mis communication, however if it was my business I would want expert communicaters in my kiosks.

Lots of great theories and guesses on SSR.

reneesam.....Selling it using the same rationale as DCL is a very interesting concept. Coming from the midwest, I'm not familiar at all with the NY Saratoga Springs area...so marketing it that way would have no appeal to me. But the "pamper the adults while the kids enjoy Disney" is a nice hook.

Enough to sell it out quickly? I don't know. I'm in the camp that they will raise prices and discount (MB) to meet price points that sell the resort.

And of course, for new members, some guides will undoubtedly tell them that it is no problem getting any of the other DVC resorts at the 7 month window!

As Doc would say.....stay tuned! :)

My crystal ball tells me that by the time the first person lays their head on a pillow and closes their eyes at SSR, the price will be $94 with a $10 MB offer.............

Of course I also see this frightend little girl (kind of looks like a young Liza Minelli) saying "I'm right here Auntie Em...I'm right here Auntie Em!!! Followed by this ugly green witch: in my crystal ball, so take it for what its worth.

I personally would pay $90 a point for ANY location that got me the extra 10 years (even the famed VWL dumpster room) because I can't bear to think of 2042... Too sad. The extra 10 years would be worth it!

nezy...I don't need any more points, so a marketing gimmick would probably not get me to purchase at SSR.

Except something that would significantly discount WDW admissions.

I am anxious to see the finished product....I bet it will be beautiful.
