Just received my information package on ssr. We are about to pull the trigger but have a couple of questions that i have been unable to find answers for here.

1. They layout of the resort seems very spread out. What is the distance from the main pool / food to the rooms (worst case)? Last year we stayed at the bcv, we were almost at the furthest end of the buildning awya from everything and the walk was not to bad. But fromt he layout drawings it almost looks like you would need a car to go for a swim in the main pool. Please no one say a 5 minute walk...5 minutes to one person is 30 to another. Relative to other walks in disney what will it be like?

2. What will be faster the boat or walking to dtd?

3. can you wlak to both sides of dtd?

4. i read somewhere about developer points? is this a joke or is there such a thing?

Thanks for your help

I'm not sure of the distances between the pts you are talking about. Maybe someone who has seen the buildings and construction in person can help you-I know Webmaster Doc may be able to help.

The developer's points are one incentive that is being offered. You receive a certain amount of pts to use based on the amount of points that you buy.

IMHO, the better deal is the $10 off per point incentive.

The walk from the buildings currently under construction will be similar to the furthest walk at BCV to SAB, similar to the walk from VWL to the main pool, similar to the walk at OKW from buildings 11-18, 62-64 and 23-27 to the main pool, further than walk to Luna Park at BWV, similar to the walk from the farthest buildings at HH and VB to their respective main pools.

There will also be a quiet pool right next to these buildings. The remaining phase of buildings will be a little farther, but there will also be a quiet pool in that area too.

I would choose to walk to DD from SSR rather than take the boat (you could almost be to Marketplace by the time you walk to the marina). I think the only "official" walkway will be to the Marketplace end of DD. The other access crosses the golf cart bridge and I know they don't want heavy pedestrian traffic there (the bridge isn't big enough to accommodate the carts and pedestrians without the potential for injuries, IMO).

Developer Points are merely one of the incentive options. If you choose that option (the points may be used until the end of April), you will have to pay $89 per point. If you have a trip planned before May, 2004 make sure to do the math to see which option works best for you.

Enjoy!

The walk is the same as BCV to SAB, really? The map makes it look so much longer, but without a scale it is impossible to be sure. That was my only concern so no i am out of reasons not to buy in.

My first reason was i was feeling slighted becasue BCV only had 40 years +/- on the contract left at the time i was looking...the new ssr dates took care of that concern.

So i assume if one is visiting disney quest it would be better to take the boat then to walk all the way around?

are there any other layout maps of ssr availible on line other then the drawing in the information package?

an aireal photo would be perfect:smooth:

I think the distance will be similar to the walk from the Epcot end rooms at BCV to SAB. In general the walk will be a little farther at SSR- the 1st building to open will be closest. It is just across a bridge , I'd guess 150-200 yards total- with sidewalks. The main pool sits between the Cinema and Auditorium. Those buildings are near the Front Desk area, Spa and Artist's Palette. I'd estimate the marina to be 350 yards from building #1.

The boat ride will depend on where the boat stops. It may just go the Rainforest Cafe/Capn Jacks Marina (like the OKW boat now) - in which case walking may be faster. If it stops at the HoB dock, that would be a better itinerary to get to DQ!

There is a cinema at ssr? I didn't knwo about that. Does anyone have any more information on it? size? what they show etc etc

The Cinema was originally part of the Disney Institute. They showed movies from the various Disney movie divisions and occasionally offered movie-based lectures.

We went to a lecture there for Valentine's Day a few years ago entitled Mickey Loves Minnie. It was presented by one of the animators and used clips from many of the early cartoons to show the development of the two characters. It was a great program and very appropriate for Valentine's Day.

The auditorium has been used for larger audiences with programs like a poetry reading by James Earl Jones. They used to have a full schedule of events. We attended several DI activities using a DVC member discount while staying at OKW.

The site of the SSR pool was home to an outdoor amphitheater where concerts were given at DI. The hillside provided a great setting for the bandshell programs. The SSR pool slide is situated where the top of the amphitheater was found.

I understand that the Cinema and Auditorium will still be used once SSR opens. No information about programs yet.

Enjoy!

That just gives me more reasons to take the plunge. Any other surprises that are not in the info pack?

This may be slightly off topic, but isn't there a movie theatre in DTD, as well? Am I imagining this?:(

Yes, there is an AMC with 24 theaters. The DI Cinema was used for special viewings of Disney produced films and for special event lectures. I can't imagine it will be any different once SSR opens. It doesn't compete with the DD AMC- it enhances the program opportunities at the resort.

That sounds really neat!

I agree with floridafam regarding the developer points. I don't think they are a very good deal, either. The trouble is they don't correspond 1 for 1 to the number of points you purchase and then having to use them up by the end of APR 2004 makes them even less valuable. (I can't find the chart--but, if I remember correctly--an example if you purchase 150 points then you receive 100 developers points--the bonus points go up as you purchase more points--but it still isn't 1 for 1...)
I suppose it does depend on each person's unique situation, but I was thinking that if someone had a trip planned prior to SSR's opening, they could take the $10.00 per point discount in lieu of the developers points and would be able to rent more points (in the case of a 150 points purchased: 150 points rented for the same cost--versus just receiving 100 developer points).

Good luck with your decision!
