SSR- Preferred Section? Chances good?

With the Preferred locations at SSR, which section seems to get more request, near the Carriage House or near Disney Springs? I would prefer to be closer to the Carriage House, but there are only three buildings there l, verses four buildings near Disney Springs.

The one time we stayed there before, we got my request and won what I call, the Location Lottery!. Standard view, building #85. It was unbelievably close to the Carriage House and I wasn’t expecting to land it. I know my chances to get such request again are close to no, so I would be willing to go Preferred in order for such conveniences to be a possibility.

I have always gotten my requested section at SSR...it's such a large resort. If the automatic assignment I get isn't to my liking I just stop by the check-in desk and ask if they have something where I want to be and they always have. Obviously nothing is guaranteed but I feel like your chances are good honestly.

Last month, not only did I not get my requested room or building, I didn't even get Congress Park. We were in the Springs, across from the Carriage House with a view of the street and the utility parking lot (where they keep golf carts and vans) behind the Carriage House. We were very disappointed, as we weren't doing a park trip; we wanted the convenience of Congress Park for walking to Disney Springs for dinner each night. It was quite cold while we were in Florida and walking back to our room was quite a bit longer than if we'd been in Congress Park. I mean... it was fine, first world problems for sure, but it wasn't where we'd hoped to be.

Did you ask for a better room at check-in? I've not always gotten my preference from the automatic system, but I've always been able to get what I want when asking at the check-in desk. But obviously it's not always guaranteed and December is a busy month so it's possible they just didn't have any other rooms to offer you of course.

Didn't do online check in, just thru Touring Plans, and this was the middle of January. I didn't ask for a different room as we got in around 11pm. It was fine, just not what I'd hoped for, and we had a good trip.
