Just returned from SSR.It seems to me that the feature pool is too small.
The feature pool was packed. There was not a chair to be found.
The pool bar was a very disorganizied. No food avail (ex chips)

I did not like having to go to main food area in bathing suit.
The "resturant" reminded me of my high school caferteria.

We did buy the plastic cups for free refills.I was not happy to get an EPCOT cup.I think that they should sell cups related to the resort.

We did have a nice time by the quiet pool but it was a long walk to feature pool.We also had to cross a road to get to community hall. This was not a very busy road but I saw several cars speeding by and busses also use this road. This made it impossible to let my son stay there by himself.

I think that for a resort as massive as SSR the feature pool should be larger.
I hate to think what it will look like when all the other buildings are built.

The good thing about DVC is the variety.
I think that SSR was just OK
We will do not plan on going back.
We prefer BWV and BCV

As with all things DVC, one person's perceived weakness is another's strength.

It's relative. My little five-year-old thinks it's huge. Maybe you're just a bit too big.

This promotes sharing and allows you to make new friends.

Chips are the #1 snack food in the U.S. and that's what most everyone wants to eat at poolside.
I did not like having to go to main food area in bathing suit.
People are much more polite to each other in swimsuits and the resulting orderliness at mealtime is a blessing.

Try the tater-tots, they're delicious.

A real moneysaver - one less park souvenir to buy.
...it was a long walk to feature pool.
Most guests I saw there on my last trip could've used the exercise.

This is themeing. It's a very authentic replication of one in Saratoga, NY.

SSR's unofficial motto is "The More - The Merrier".

Make that A-Okay for me and my family!

We were just there last week and I had no problem with the pool size. I actually had a problem with the number of guards on duty AT the pool. At times the pool was very crowded and you had two guards for or 60 people IN the pool, plus watching the slide(s).

The Hot Tubs had some issues. One, only half the jets worked and the other one was cold some mornings.

I do wish that the mugs at SSR had something to do with the resort.

I actually liked the food at Artist's Palette, but the organization of ordering and paying was very confusing.

We got to choose which building we wanted when we checked in and was lucky enough to get close enough to the feature pool.

I share your concerns about the pool. I really think they will need at least one more "feature pool" when the complex is completed, not that this is anything I would bank on.

I didn't notice the plastic cup issue (we didn't purchase any when we were there last week) and we thought the food was good. It wasn't crowded when we were there and we had no trouble with ordering, paying, etc.

I hope they straighten things out with the pool and bar staffing, bar food, etc. That is a pain, as well as a concern. In the meantime, for our first visit to SSR, my dh and I were pleased. We like being able to drive up to our door. For us, this was a big plus! We like the quiet (away from the parks) ambience (although we love being in the midst of things, too). We like being able to walk to DTD. And we liked that the room was new and clean...our room at BWV (which I still loved) was in need of some TLC!

I hope your next trip to Disney has all the magic you hope for! :goodvibes

The thing is as SSR sells more towards being full I think these small things (Cup with SSR ,Hottubs,Another pool) will be addressed .

Remember DVD is still paying all the cost of every point not sold and thats a lot to absorb for such a large place.

I haven't stayed yet but have toured it on different times of the days and as we like DTD and just a place to take a shower and get some sleep it's a perfect fit for us.

Well, at the risk of sounding really snarly, I'm personally glad some folks don't like the SSR. Will make it so much easier for me when I want to get into my home resort at those busier times!

I ditto Rink!

Enjoy your future BWV and BCV stays!

Thanks for the honest review.

Nicely, done, Sir Rinkwide!

Seriously, though: do that many people chow down at the pool? We've never done this; a cool drink on a hot day, yes, but to actually order food? Between the screaming kids and the chlorine smell, I just can't understand wanting to eat there.

IMHO - YMMV - Be well!

ETA: Any possibility that there is illegal pool-hopping going on? Might be real easy for folks to park at DTD and walk/boat/bus for a day at the SSR pool....

Rink-

I just have to say, I crack up every time I see your posts...

Will Ferrell playing the cowbell? Priceless!!!

so glad to see that there is something at a resort that will keep parent and child together! perhaps more roadways are needed at other resorts so that dh and i will not be bumped into or unwillingly made a part of a child's sports activity or their mad dash to the pool/snack bar/video games :duck: !

to rink: thanx! :)

Rinkwide, that was good stuff even though it was a little harsh. It was a good laugh but at whose expense? The OP was simply posting there honest review of SSR. Why all the flames? Anyway......

OP, I think the pool will prove to be too small as well. That pool was designed before the resort was increased in size. To my knowledge the pool was never increased in size to accomodate this. Granted, they will add more quiet pools but a resort this size needs 2 theme pools or a bigger theme pool. Part of the problem with seating around the pool is there is only seating on a couple of sides because of the pool being set down in. Chairs will be at a premium when the resort is built out. Shade is already an issue and something I noticed is lacking when we toured.

Despite the flames, I think your concerns are very real and some of the same concerns I have. Thanks for posting your views. :thumbsup2

I don't think that Rink was flaming. If you read his/her other posts it is his/her sense of humor. I don't want to speak for him/her but that is the way I took it. :teeth: Thanks for another laugh, Rink.

To op I have heard that they may be putting in another themed or semi-themed pool in the new phase of SSR. I guess we'll see soon.

I did forget to mention that I did not care for the brown tint the water has.
I know it is "theming"to make it look like a lake.

I think it just makes it look dirty.

Count me with you!

Brown water??!! Are you sure that all those kids at the pool didn't have something to do with that?! :teeth: Seriously, though, I never noticed brown water. Of course, I didn't notice many people at the pool, either, but, then, we are back to the pool temperature issue, which is a different thread.

I agree with Dano1182. My DW works at a pool and said the same thing. It is most likely the color of the paint, not the water. Even late at night or early in the morning it still looked darker.
