SSR Pool too Small?

We did have a nice time by the quiet pool but it was a long walk to feature pool.We also had to cross a road to get to community hall. This was not a very busy road but I saw several cars speeding by and busses also use this road. This made it impossible to let my son stay there by himself.

Please don't take this the wrong way but if your child can't be trusted to cross the street safely he/she is not old enough to be left alone at the pool either. When we were there I never saw anyone "speeding" but then again it was Sept. so was very quiet.

I think that for a resort as massive as SSR the feature pool should be larger.
I hate to think what it will look like when all the other buildings are built.

I too hope they will build an additional large pool to allow everyone who chooses to stay at SSR the opportunity to enjoy a pool in comfort. I thought I read somewhere that this is on the drawing boards.
May you always get the resort you want - that's what is so great about DVC- choices as you prefer BWV that is my last choice-

I'm hoping that knowing they want to quadruple the size of SSR that they will also build decent quiet pools in the new sections. This will help alleviate the influx at the main pool.

The bottom of the pool is not traditional blue as seen here on this link
http://disneydoc.homestead.com/files/SSRMay04_050.jpg . The zero entry point anyway isn't blue.

However, my kids stayed in the pool for hours many days and IMO the color that the water appears doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the water. Wouldn't a natural springs have a natural color to it?

Maybe this was the appearance that the imagineers had in mind. In our experience at the pool, the color chosen for the bottom of the pool doesn't seem to hinder anyone from enjoying the pool. JMHO.

I'd like to see another huge pool area with waterfalls into the pool and a lazy river that goes thru a cave. That would fit with the theming and solve to pool capacity problem. Come on Disney, if you add that SSR will sell out in no time. I liked SSR but it could be perfect with a little work. Come on Disney imagineers. When you do the math and figure that each unit grosses $750,000 when it is sold (50wks times $15,000) SSR can afford another feature pool

Building a pool is not cheap. Also, the cost of keeping a pool running(Water, Heater, Pump, Chemicals) is a lot of money every year. Also, once you have a slide, you then need more lifeguards and insurance goes up.

Let me clarify .
The water was clean. There is a dark pool liner..
It makes the water appear brown.

I agree that is what I like about DVC each resort is difernt than the other. They are not cookie cutters of each other. .I may like something other may like something else.

I like to swim in the ocean others like to swim in lakes.
I like my pool water to appear sparkling clean.
(Blue or white pool liner)

I simply think that the feature pool is much too small for such a massive complex.I think this will be a bigger issue when the complex is completed. How many more units can they put there?

I still do not get why they are selling epcot cups.

I respectfully suggest that it has NOT been proven that there is a pool capacity problem.

Personally, I'm quite glad that HRS is as simply and enjoyable as it is. We stayed at the Mirage in Las Vegas last month - their pool area is what many folks keep suggesting for SSR - and it was just too crazy. If we want lazy rivers & waterfalls & caves - well, that's what water parks are for.

IMHO - YMMV

We just spent two weeks at SSR and never once had a problem getting a lounger at the feature pool. :confused3

The chances of getting food at the pool bar are very slim at the moment. The SSR bar staff are on a newer sort of contract from most other resort staff - this contract actually prevents them from serving food. So, if SSR was to serve food at the pool bar they would need separate employees for this. Doesn't sound very likely to me. Personally I'm not a "snacking-by-the-pool" kind of person so it doesn't bother me. As long as they keep serving those lovely Colada Slides I'm happy! :teeth:

We were told that there will be a second themed pool in one of the areas which are currently under construction. Not sure which one, although the lady who told us this said it would probably be by the "fairway villas" overlooking LBV golf course.

Is the water tinted brown or is the bottom of the pool painted brown?

its the bottom of the pool, it is done that way to look like a rock bed.

We were at SSR during the Easter break and didn't encounter any problems at the pool at all. We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to go back!

"I've got a fever and the only cure is MORE COWBELL!!!"
I love that sketch! (OK, now I have Don't Fear The Reaper going through my head!)

I love SSR, but there are a few things I love less than others. That' why I'm glad I have so many choices in DVC resorts. Well, except when I'm trying to make a decision on where to stay and I want to stay at them ALL! I liked the main pool area, but we prefer the quiet pools, since we don't have children with us usually.

I was there in March and would agree with everything you said. :thumbsup2 I would also like to add that I can't count the number of times I saw people... adults, kids, families strolling down the middle of the road despite the buses and cars... completely ignoring the sidewalks which are everywhere :confused3 Why not just stick a "hit me" sign on your backside! What a terrible example for the younger ones, also. :sad2:

I loved the quiet pool in Congress... never crowded, perfectly clear water, plenty of chairs and a lovely view of DTD :goodvibes Perfect for adults, though younger children would probably prefer the theme pool. ;)

We have just returned from SSR today after a 14 day stay. The resort was at capacity, but there was always plenty of room by the pool every day, so it really doesn't seem to be a problem at the moment. Seems strange that we must have been there at the same time as you, yet every day there was plenty of free sun loungers around the pool?

They are apparently planning to put a new themed pool with a pool bar in the new 'fairway' villas area, so i'm sure any future issues have already been taken into account.

As far as the colour of the pool looking dirty, well in 2 weeks I didn't notice that. I guess some people look for negatives while others see positives :confused3

The pool bar service was also excellent the whole time we were there. Service was always quick and friendly. I can't see how not serving food can be called disorganised. Unless you had some other problems which you haven't mentioned then I think it's pretty offensive to call them disorganised when they are doing what they are paid to do, and doing it very well.

We ate a few times at the Artist's Palette, and the food was excellent. You must have had a pretty amazing cafeteria at school!! However they are in the course of constructing a new TS restaurant at the Turf Club.

The last time we saw SSR was when only Congress Park was open. I actually think that all of the new buildings have improved the look a lot. The landscaping is amazing, particullarly the lakes around the Springs/Paddocks area. We walked around the whole resort, and even walking from the farthest area of the Paddocks to the main pool only takes 5 minutes. The place is really maturing well.

My DW's family stayed with us on this visit, and they were totally blown away by SSR.

I'm looking forward to seeing the resort when it is completed. With a TS restaurant, another feature pool, the on-site golf course (which is fantastic) and the on site Spa, I honestly believe that SSR will eventually be viewed as the premium DVC resort.

Yes there are those that want to stay at a hotel style resort, who think that room service and food at the pool define the quality of a place. But no other current DVC resort is able to offer all of the amenities that SSR will have soon.

Once SSR is sold out they will also have the whole ground floor of the Spa building back, so it will be interesting to see what goes in there.

I agree with this 100%.... We too just returned and I was AMAZED at the seating availability at the pool at all times. We were there in the morning, early afternoon and late afternoon on very sunny and warm days and had no problems getting a seat. I have had worse problems at AKL in FEBRUARY than SSR in May....

I was "not looking for negatives"

It was something i noticed..
The great thing about DVC is the variety.what you like may not be what i like.

The food was decent but the resturant did remind me of a caferteria.

The staff at poor bar were disorgainizied.Maybe he was new but the bartender put vodka in a Pina Colada for example..

I prefer the pool bars at VWL and BWV'S

The pool seemed crowded to me. I did not have that feeling at other DVC resorts We did not find any empty lounge chairs the times we went.Granted we did not walk over the bridge in the morning and stake claim to chairs.

Lots of chairs being held by towels etc.

I was told that the golf course was closed by staff. So i can not comment on it but i am sure it is very nice.

We were just at SSR in March and the main pool was incredibly crowded. We did finally manage to find a couple of chairs, but Holy Cow getting a refreshment from the bar took a good twenty minutes standing in line. It would have helped if they had more than one person behind the counter but for whatever reason on this day they did not.

I'm not bashing SSR, in fact we are in the process of adding on points there, but I do have to question whether or not the main pool is large enough to accomodate the size of the resort. The resort isn't even 100% complete yet so I'm wondering what it's going to be like once all of the phases are complete?

Don't want to offend anyone, just wanted to share our experience and my opinion.

No one ever mentions the second quiet pool at The Paddock.

I noticed the "sand" colored painted bottom at the pool on my last trip too. I did not like it. It didn't give the effect I think was intended.

The last pool that is being built will be larger then the Congress pool. So in all total, there will be four pools. Two of them will be themed.

Nicely, done, Sir Rinkwide!

Seriously, though: do that many people chow down at the pool? We've never done this; a cool drink on a hot day, yes, but to actually order food? Between the screaming kids and the chlorine smell, I just can't understand wanting to eat there.

IMHO - YMMV - Be well!

ETA: Any possibility that there is illegal pool-hopping going on? Might be real easy for folks to park at DTD and walk/boat/bus for a day at the SSR pool....

We eat lunch at pools all the time while on vaction, just not at Disney-we get CS in the parks, so we don't take time away from our touring!

Trust me, if were our family of 5 and you had all your kids and all their stuff (toys, floatation devices, sunscreen, first aid kit (for falls on the cemet), bathing suit coverups, etc...) at the pool and actually managed to find 5 lounge chairs that were not shaded or a mile away from the pool-you would NOT leave for lunch! When we go on beach vacations or to someplace like Cancun we arrive at the pool in the AM and stay there until we are done for the day (late afternoon). We do not go our room or a resort restaurant for lunch, we eat at the pool. Poolbars that have a wide selection of food are my favorites! My kids can get whatever they want for lunch and DH and I can "drink" our lunch if we want-as in Frozen Margaritas or some other cool tropical drink. ;) As long as my kids can get some sort of lunch with fries, my pool day is perfect. :)

I was just at SSR last week and had a perfect and magical experience. The resort was very full (according to CMs) but we didn't feel even a bit crowded. Always quiet, plenty of pool chairs, etc.

As for the color of the pool...the bottom of zero entrance point is sandy colored, not blue. We did not notice that the water looked dirty or a different color....and we logged many an hour at that awesome pool! :thumbsup2
