SSR owner booking info

There was a thread this past weekend, which of course I cant find now, that had an incorrect note about when SSR owners can book.

Someone posted that SSR owners cannot book at other resorts until May.

I just spoke to someone at Member Services and I was told this is not the case. SSR owners can begin booking on Dec 1 for SSR and for other Disney resorts within the 7 mos window, essentially trips in July or later.

You can book on dec 1, but you can't stay at other resorts until may 17 and after, you can stay at any dvc resort that is available after SSr opens May 17.

My other question in all of this is what happens if the resort doesn't open on the 17th? We are already changing our vacation plans since we were operating on a May 1 opening date and that's fine, but my question is what if I make reservations for after the 17th and SSR isn't ready yet ? What happens to my points? I guess I'm just wondering how concrete the 5/17/04 date is? Any ideas out there?
