SSR or POR? UPDATE QUESTION

I can't believe that this thread hasn't been hijacked into a SSR bashing thread by now. How did they ever miss it?!!!

Another vote here for SSR over POR.

I think boat lost his partner in crime! ;)

SSR over POR ANYday! Enjoy!

I am glad to hear all of the possitive comments. I was starting to get worried about our impending purchase. I have never been to SSR but purchased with confidence because we really LOVE POR and had the impression that it would offer some of the similar amenities that we enjoy such as DDT at night, the riverboat ride, bike paths, quiet pools, lush landscaping and a food court. Believe it or not, we actually prefer the food court over a sit down restaurant. With 2 small children and picky eater husband, it is easier, faster and more convenient for us. We almost always eat breakfast there and sometimes dinner as well. In, fact, when we stayed at WL on our last trip one of the annoyances was the lack of food court. The fast food restaurant just did not appeal to us.

We love love love POR and I can tell you SSR is awesome! Ignore the naysayers heck people gush all over BWV and we stayed there and I loathed it - in fact when we went over to SSR to say hi to our guide I wanted to cry... We have decided to add on at BCV just for weekend stays and the pool but SSR is our HOME.

Remember most people who like something never comment - it is always those who had a less than stellar experience. Enjoy your trip HOME.

SSR for sure! It is a great resort.( I know you wouldn't know it from a couple of people around here. :sad2: ) If you like a food court, Artist pallete is an upcale one. I has nice salads, sandwiches and flat breats. They are very good. Also it is within walking distance or a nice boat ride of DTD. All rooms have balconies unlike POR. Most have nice views. They have done a nice job with the building situations. Most loverlook a water way of some kind. My favorite view is the DTD view if you can get it. It is as nice as the BW view IMHO. It has a great pool and a nice pool bar. I think it is every bit, if not more upscale than the other DVC resorts and much nicer than the moderates. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but those two have gone overboard. It is a shame.

Have a great time.

I have stayed in SSR and loved it. I was a little scared because of the size and frankly I was intimidated. We had requested to be near the pool/food court and were placed the Springs. It was perfect. We walked across the street and we had everything. The buses weren't the best but it was January so I will give them the benefit since it was low season. I do love the food court at Port Orleans, but SS was nice. Not nearly the choices that POR has but it suited our needs.

The only thing I want to mention is that if you use points to book POR and you need to cancel , those points have to be used at another hotel not DVC. They will not get coverted back to DVC points. Hope this helps , either way you will be by the magic so have a great trip!!! :wizard:

I'd suggest POR. What a moderate over a DVC you say? In this case yes. SSR doesn't have that magic. Very non discript. For your first experience with DVC, go with the original OKW or BWV. Both offer great themes. Good luck and who knows you might start writing those glowing SSR reviews we now see popping up.

I have stayed at POR, POFQ and SSR. To me there is no comparison, SSR is way above Port Orleans. And I happen to love Port Orleans. Not sure why people don't like SSR and don't find it nicely themed or well situated, to each their own. Thats what is so great about WDW, there is much to choose from. However, I find the theming at SSR to be lovely, the pool is incredible and the difference in room quality is immeasurable between POR and SSR. Also, I have stayed in both the Springs section and the dreaded Paddock and enjoyed them both the same. The Paddock is not that much of a walk to anything, has a very nice quiet pool and is the first section to be dropped off and picked up by the buses. Given the size of SSR, that can be a real plus. I stayed in the AB section of POR and that felt way more distant than the Paddock area of SSR. But hey, AB at POR was a lovely walk and not Chinese torture either. I never understand all the hoopla about far out locations at WDW resorts, given the walking you do in general what's a little more?

Well this is encouraging! I am getting ready to make our first ressie too and I felt like SSR was going to come available and I wasn't going to turn it down but I didn't know what to expect, so this is great to hear.

Dave is that you? :confused3

We stayed at POR when we purchased DVC in January after touring SSR. I was very skeptical of SSR and though we'd never stay there. Once we saw the place, I very quickly warmed up to it, and now I'm quite excited about it.

One poster alled it 'non-descript.' I couldn't agree more. It's very consistently themed as a resort near Saratoga. The rooms are quite comfortable and elegant without being stuffy and the buildings have a very warm and friendly color scheme, in my opinon.

Perhaps you could check out the photos at allearsnet.com to help give you a better idea. At any rate, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The Springs. I don't know why, but from the Springs it seemed like a lot less walking than POR. We were close to the main pool, bus stop, and main buildings. It's impossible to be close to all three at POR even though we got building 14 two times. We really liked SSR. :thumbsup2 Another plus with a small child, most likely you will always get a seat on the buses. We found ourselves standing a lot when we stayed at POR.
