We are thinking of going in November and my SIL is willing to rent us her DVC points for a very good price. There would be 5 of us (me, DH, my mom, and twin DS8). My SIL's home resort is SSR and she highly recommends it. The woman through DVC she talked to said we could have a 1BR, and if we want an extra place for sleeping we can bring an air mattress with us (or does anyone know if they have rollaway beds?). Or if we choose a 1BR at OKW, there is apparently also a sleeper chair, so we wouldn't have to bring anything extra. But we'd have to make sure at OKW we get a building with an elevator or a 1st floor room as my mother and I cannot climb stairs. Would love to hear some recommendations and about your experiences.

Thanks

p.s. We'd rent a car so wouldn't have to worry about bus transportation, etc.

Hi! I actually love OKW. I haven't stayed at SSR, but when visiting it is also nice. OKW has this real calm feel about it. We stayed on a first floor villa when we went and it was so lovely. I believe they have also refurbished all the rooms lately.
Another great things for your kids might be the pool. I find that OKW has one of the best water slides! They also have a booth near the pool you can borrow board games in case just sitting at the pool isn't your idea of fun. The boat to DTD is also a beautiful ride - and we always had a great boat captain willing to tell us all about the resort!

The SSR one bedroom only has one king sized bed and one queen sized sleeper sofa. DVC will not provide an rollaways or cots. But they will allow a fifth person at this time. You will need to provide your own sleeping space for the fifth person, as well as any towels needed for the fifth person. A one bedroom villa will have four bath towels, two hand towels and four face cloths. If you need additional towels, you can purchase an extra towel pack that includes the same, plus an additional tub mat.

OKW will have the sleeper chair in the living room, so you wouldn't need any more sleeping spaces. But, like you said, most of the villas do not have elevators and you would have to request a first floor or one of the elevator buildings as a medical need, if you have a medical need. I have had both my knees replaced because of arthritis and had no problem prior to them being replaced using the stairs.

OKW will be larger than SSR, but at least half of the villas don't have the second entrance to the bathroom through the laundry room and you have to enter through the master bedroom.

With DVC points stays, you do not get a full cleaning every day like with the other resorts. If you stay seven nights or less, you will get your towels replaced and trash removed on day four. If you purchased the towel pack, you will need to purchase another one on day four. If you stay eight nights or more, you will get a full cleaning on day four and your towels replaced and trash removed on day eight. If you are a coffee drinker or like the shampoo, shower gel, etc, you will only get them replaced every four days.

If your SIL has SSR points, she will only be able to book SSR at this time. She will have to wait until sometime in April (seven months out from your arrival) to book OKW. By that time OKW could be gone.

I much prefer OKW, esp. for a one-bedroom villa as it will be MUCH larger than those at SSR. I find it easy to get also, esp. for the larger villas. We just returned from a short stay at OKW that I booked about 6 weeks prior- I had my choice of SSR or OKW but didn't look at any other DVC locations. We love the Trumbo ferry at OKW, Hank's rent and return and the poolside activities and campfires. SSR does have the advantage of a better food court if you're looking for that. Maybe take a look online at photos from both resorts and see which theming you'd prefer- you really can't go wrong with either resort. If I were you, I'd be so excited!!!

Thank you all for your help! Especially the inside scoop about the towels, etc - I never even thought about that. Sounds like we can't go wrong with either resort, I guess it will depend on availability at OKW if we decide to check on that in a month.

And yes, I'm very excited - I've never stayed in a "deluxe" resort before. Last time we went (3 years ago) we stayed in a family suite at ASMu. I fear this will spoil us, though! :rotfl:
