Can any DVC members tell me if there is a place to see if the main pool at SSR will be closed in March? When I called to add room preferences a week ago the woman said she had just gotten a Refurbishment notice that the main pool would be closed in March. When I called the resort directly they did not have that info, and when I called the general resort line they said maybe she was confused with a different resort because it was not listed. None of the boards that I have checked show that either. However, swimming will be one of the main activities for our family on spring break and the kids were really looking forward to the slide, etc...so I want to know if I should consider other options! Thanks for any info!

surely they wouldn't do it in March given it is spring break for so many.....

I just spoke to member services about that same thing. She said it would be closed on March 5th and would reopen on March 30th. We're actually checking in on that day and she said it would definitely open back up by the 30th.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the information...although I am SOOOOOO frustated by that. We are exchanging through Interval so I don't think there is anything we can do to change our plans at this point. The pool was a big draw though...we picked SSR over a larger room at a Marriott to be onsite and have the fun of that pool. Now we're in a smaller unit with no feature pool...and other pools that will be extra crowded. UGHHHH!

Bkaz...the pool at the Grandstand is pretty cool because there is tons of waterplay area if you have kids

If you dont have small kids....the quiet pools are plenty, and will be refreshing (trying to be optimistic for you)

Have a good trip

It will take a little time but you can take the boat over to Old Key West. Their feature pool is pretty nice and has a big sandy area behind it. Restrooms with showers are very close to the pool as well. We swam in one of the other pools at SSR and the kids had a great time there as well. After staying at both resorts, my kids actually want to go back to OKW. It is their favorite.:goodvibes

Thanks for the optimism and suggestions! :goodvibes I guess we will stay put...as any change with Interval would take us offsite and would require an additional fee. I did call and talk to someone at Member Services who said that we are welcome to use the Old Key West pool...and since we will have our car we will probably take advantage of that. I'm sure the kids will still have fun, but I really wish I had known this info a month ago when I made our reservation, as we might have made a different choice. Oh well...it is what it is!

I must be pool-cursed. I book Jan 09 for the Contemporary and BCV and both are closing their main pools. I book SSR for March and the main pool is closed. I'm going to book OKW for September and BLT for early December. Any takers that the pools will be closed for some odd reason?:rotfl:

I hope this is not the case!! It is not listed on the refurb calendar. I am considering this resort for our March stay, but if the pool will be closed, I don't think we will stay. Bummer!!

Hello, I received a confirmed letter that as of March 9 through the end of March, the main pool will be closed for resurfacing.

We have a 2 week stay planned from the 10th on...wasn't too happy to hear about this... we're staying 3 days at BCV, and they're refurbishing SAB, then 11 days at SSR, now their pool closing...Oh well.... i'm sure something will work out.

I got my confirmation letter yesterday that Yes, the pool is being resurfaced druing Spring Break. We are calling Monday to cancel our reservations. We had already planned on a different Disney trip with plans to spend limited time at the park doing just the things we really wanted to do and then just enjoying the pool and atmosphere. Also, when I got the confirmation letter, the name on the reservation is incorrect. Funny thing is that when I made the reservation, the person told me that a new policy required the name on the reservation to match the drivers license or you would not be allowed to check in. I have 2 rooms reserved. The reservations have the first name on one room with the last name on the other room. This despite the reservationist and I going over the list 3 times to be sure it was correct.

This REALLY dissappoints me - I am renting for 10 days in March and was not advised of this and since I am paying ALOT for this 2 bedroom, I feel I should ask my "landlord" if they can see about changing my reservation to another resort. We were actually planning on not doing the parks as much and just enjoying the pools and facilities - yes I know there are other pools on property but DD's would want a slide and the main activities and for the money (3K+++) I think I need to change. Do you think there is a chance I will find another 2 bedroom March 11 - 21st??

You need to contact the member you are renting from immediately. If anything is available, you will require fewer points for OKW, but more for any of the other resorts. That would mean the member would need additional points to make the reservation AND you would have to pay them more.

I have left a message. I don't mind OKW and I wouldn't mind doing a few extra pts. I just want to ensure we can change it if it really will be closed. do you think there are 2 bedrooms left??

I just got off the phone with SSR directly and she checked 3 sources invcluding the Manager and they said the pool will not be closed in March. I indicated that a DVC member had received a letter indicating otherwise and she politley said "M'am, I asked my Manager and he would know and he has no record of anything taking place at the Main pool in March".

Given there have been a number of mistakes on these letters as per the previous post - perhaps they made a mistake on the resort pool also??

mtmbyck:

I called on Friday and Saturday and MS informed me that the only availability for March 16-20 was at SSR (for both 1br and 2br). Perhaps you will have better luck than I did.

I am keeping my reservation for 10 nights as it appears this thread about the main pool being closed has not been confirmed. I sure would like to hear if anyone else can 100% confirm or deny - as I mentioned....SSR says it will be OPEN.

Since I am not a DVC member and am only renting the points, I cannot call member services.

I am on the phone with Member Services. The person I spoke with said that they were notified this morning and that it was confirmed. The main pool will be closed in March beginning March 9th. I checked for avaialility the week of March 14-21. There was only spotty availability (14th and 17th). I checked studios, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom.
