SSR Lovers and Owners Part 4

We are staying at SSR for the first time for Labor Day weekend. I have been doing lots of research and watching videos to familiarize myself with this resort. There will be 10 of us (6 adults, 3 kids, plus 1 infant) in a 2 BR Villa, Resort View. I requested to be at Paddock near the pool. I really never imagined staying here before, but I think we will like it with all of the pools for the kids, plus being close to DS. We debated between AKV Kidani for the third bathroom or SSR for the murphy bed. In the end, the murphy bed won out.

SSR accommodations are much more modern than Kidani at this point. Kidani 2 bedroom villas are about 100 sqft larger, IDK how much of that is taken up by the extra bathroom though. Probably a decent amount. I definitely agree having the murphy bed would make the difference. Putting the kids on the couch bed would be fine but if adults will need to sleep on it, you'll definitely want the murphy bed.

Once Kidani is refurbished, man that gets to be a tough decision though.

Hello! Looking for some input. Heading to SSR in mid November for 10 nights. Just DH and myself. We’re in our late 50’s. No car. Standard studio. Doing 50/50 park and resort days. Considering requesting Grandstand area. Is it safe to assume that the Backstretch Pool Bar will be closed during that time? Is the mug refill station only open if the bar is open? Can you walk to DS by utilizing the bridge that crosses over to the west side of DS? Open to any other location suggestions. We enjoy being in an active area. Would Paddock be a better request? Haven’t stayed at SSR since 2008. We were in the newly finished Grandstand area on that trip. Stayed in Congress Park in 2007. Enjoyed the proximity to DS, but we are booked standard not preferred for this trip. Not thrilled about parking lot views either. Thanks!
we haven’t stayed there for a few years, but I’m pretty sure the refill station stays open. Yes you can utilize the bridge to get to the West side of DS. You can walk all the way to OKW too.

I left the decision to my sister, who is the one that would be sleeping in the living room with her two kids and she said murphy bed all the way. She didn't even hesitate. She's staying free on our points so she wasn't going to be picky either way, honestly.

We haven't stayed at Kidani before, but it's on our list probably after the refurb. We stayed in the 2 BRV at BLT a couple years ago and LOVED the third bathroom, but my son and DIL didn't like the sofa bed at all so I do imagine Kidani would be the same.

I am optimistic that we are going to like SSR a lot, even with all the buses, which is the only reason we haven't stayed here before. It does look like a lovely resort.

Everyone wants to poo poo oh the humanity its bus only, but we had zero issues with being bus only. MK is a bit of a haul, but other then that, its fairly quick. And this was with two toddlers and a double stroller, would be even better without that nonsense.

Main pro tip is to use the buses not only to get out of SSR but as an internal bus loop too.

Glad you brought this up as it can be handy since the buses usually follow the same drop off/pick up pattern at the stops. However once at AKL (yes I know its not SSR) the busdriver reversed the order on a dropoff (usually they do Kidani then Jambo).

So my other protip to add to this one is ask the driver as you enter the bus and make sure the next stop or stops is what you expect it to be.

Akl runs its own internal shuttle that is often faster than the Disney buses

We are new owners - we just closed on our resale contract last week. We originally discussed buying direct when SSR was brand new, but decided not to, now 20 years later, here we are. I’m looking forward to learning everything there is to know about this resort. My neighbor stayed at SSR last year and loved it. I’m sure I’ll be asking many questions here, so I’m warning everyone ahead of time - LOL!

Congrats! I stayed there for the first time in February and fell in love. I'm sure you'll love it too. I think it's highly underrated, but I kind of like it that way. It makes it easier to get reservations.
