SSR Lovers and Owners Part 4

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread (and the older ones too!). I read a lot of posts discouraging prospective owners from buying at SSR, which I found confusing because I have been to SSR and done a little tour (we went there to sign our RIV contract) and I really liked the little I saw, plus it's great value for money points-wise.

After many days of contemplation, I finally made an offer on SSR resale and can't wait for it to pass ROFR!

Congrats!

Were the discouraging posts older? The refurb at ssr did wonders for it I think. It’s got its negatives that people harp on (mainly buses but in our experience they were just fine). But lots of good too.

Some were old but some were recent. A lot of the complaints were about how spread out the resort is, bus-only transport to parks and worthless home-resort advantage since you can get availability pretty much any time. All of thiese don't faze me, the affordable resale prices and low dues make up of for all of that IMO.

Same! Also it’s super nice!

We always book 1 bedroom preferred, and at check in I request Congress Park. We have gotten Congress Park every single time. I have a 2 bedroom preferred booked for the first time. Will it be just as easy to request Congress Park in a 2 bedroom preferred as it has always been with a 1 bedroom preferred? I don't know if there are fewer 2 bedrooms in that section or if competition for Congress Park is harder with the larger unit. Location is very important to us and I don't want to lessen our chances just because we want an additional bathroom.

All building layouts are identical. Each building has the same number of studios, 1,2 and 3 bedroom units. The Springs has 3 buildings to Congress Park’s 4. So CP has more rooms. I think there is more demand for the Springs due to the location to the Carriage house and the 2 feature pools. CP definitely has some great views of Disney Springs.

I agree with @The Jackal , I think CP is an uncommon request and easy for them to grant.

Hello! We are staying at SSR for the first time this in early January for one night before boarding a cruise out of PC. I'm really looking forward to our stay in a 2-bedroom standard view and exploring SSR a little bit. I have a question on the boat to DS - does it ever go down in the winter or does it operate all year? Trying to figure out the best building for us for a room request. Thanks all!

The boat operates all year, water-levels-dependent. There is often a time in late spring into early summer when the water levels drop in that waterway, and the boats can't operate. Depends on if the summer rain season kicks in early in summer as it's siupposed to, or is late as in some El Nino years. This past year, the boats were down for about a month to a month-and-a-half from what I recall. Should be OK in December though - even though it's not rainy season in Florida, this summer plus the hurricanes brought way higher than normal rains to the state so we are running a surplus.

I would suggest requesting The Paddock if exploring DS is a priority; it’s pretty central.

In the unlikely event the boat is down in the winter, The Paddock is also the closest of the standard areas to the walking path, and depending on your building, walking to DS will be faster (and possibly even less walking) than the boat.

To add, you can also just hop on any bus from the Paddock and get off at Congress Park if you want to shorten your walk...

Team, I managed to get a few nights in a Deluxe Studio Preferred View this January. It'll (possibly) be my first stay at SSR (we own elsewhere). The intent of the preferred view is the shorter walk to DS. It'll either be my son (21) and I, or my son and his girlfriend, so I may have to stay there myself another time.

How do I go about specifically requesting Congress Park (and not gambling between Congress Park and The Springs, which are the two choices)? Thank you!

Just call them up and add the request to your reservation. You can put in a request for Congress Park in general, or add a more specific second request for Buildings 1 or 2 (the two closest to the walkway).

You just need to contact MS via chat, email via the member website, or phone.

Affordable resale prices, low dues, AND nice rooms and amenities IMO. It’s not a high rise, that is what it is.

Any news on the Treehouse refurbishment? I haven't looked over a ton of the back pages, but I'm always curious as to when this will be done.
