SSR Looking to possibly buy

Here you go, @KellyN1017, in the pinned post I found a list of brokers that can be mentioned.

To that list I would also add:
www.dvcsales.com - I've used them and they are very responsive and easy to reach.
**********.com
*************.com
****************.com

Edit: hmm I guess some I look at are not favored by this board.

My first contract was resale at SSR, but it was years before we ever actually stayed there. My family has been members since 1992, so we were pretty partial to OKW, and once I bought my own contract, we always had luck at 7 months for resorts we had been wanting to stay at, and SSR just wasn't on the list. We really liked it when we finally did stay there, and have been multiple times since. I'm looking forward to seeing the refurbished rooms, but that likely won't be until 2022.

I'd say go for a resale contract if you find one at the right price. You can always add direct later if you feel you need a blue card or want to add at a resort that doesn't have the UY you want resale.

We think we really like SSR. Is this a good place to have DVC points? How many points is a good starting point? It is just the two of us, but we do have extended family that we go with at times.
1. Yes, SSR is a good place to have DVC points. It's the best, everyone thinks so, just ask them. I have points there, so it must be good.
2. How many points depends on your budget and how often you want to go, what type of room you want. If you are on a tight budget, I'd still get at least 100-200. If you have unlimited resources, I'd start with 10,000 pts and if you can't use them all I can help.

People post here looking for helpful advice. No one needs sarcasm or mocking. Why bother posting this?

There is helpful advice there. See my highlights below:

Well, I guess you could take it as sarcasm, definitely some of it was meant jokingly, but not mocking anyone. I try to sprinkle helpful advice along with jesting. I'm used to conversation like that, sorry if it can be too much. :)

Unfortunately I am not rich enough for 10,000 points. I did just go under contract on 150 points at SSR with an August Use year.

Yay! That's really exciting! party:

I hope it works well for you over the years and that you enjoy having DVC. I have only been a member for a few years, and my biggest regret is not having bought sooner, which you will find is a common theme.

150 is a good number of points. I started with 100, but always felt that another 50 would have been better when we planned vacations.

I do appreciate any sarcasm, helps with the way too serious tone in many threads and the long fights over minor DVC items.

As far as SSR goes I would say it depends on what rooms you usually book. Studios are super competitive so if you own SSR it will be tough to book other resorts at the 7 month window. However if you book one bedrooms you have a much better chance of booking other resorts at the 7 mont window. I have a SSR contract in ROFR right now. I usually book one bedrooms.

I bought 200 pts SSR resale last year as I was uncertain how often I would use the 11 month window, and was pretty price conscious. I was looking for AKV contracts but there was a bit of a drought for AKV at the time and this SSR contract had the right price, points, UY, and was not completely stripped.

I stayed at SSR for the first time reccently, and it is a very SPRAWLING resort. The bridge was closed, making it a long walk from the Paddock to anywhere - but the walk was very nice. Contrary to most people, we were not that impressed with Disney Springs. Shopping centers are not my thing, and our experience of the food service there was less accommodating to a gluten free diet than the resort dining. We ended up needing / wanting to visit the carriage house area more often than the springs!

The bus service was acceptable. Yes, the bus makes several stops in the resort, but the additional travel time to the parks is not too onerous. As with any bus service location I would consider Uber / Lyft to DHS in the morning if you want to guarantee getting there early.

The refurb rooms themselves were among our favorite at WDW. The pull out couches in other villas often have our kids wondering if it would have been better to stay at the All Stars! It's pretty and shiny and new right now, which I am sure is also a big plus in its favor.

The take home lesson for us. There is no need for us to stay close to Disney Springs. A room closer to the carriage house would have suited us much better. Next time we will either pay the point premium to stay in the Springs area or request Grandstand closest to the carriage house. Third choice would be closest to the the paddock pool. In the future, which resorts have the Murphy style bed is going to figure heavily into our calculations.

Congratulations, by the way, a couple can only own a maximum of 8,000 points and a single person 4,000 points. 4,000 points gets you about a week in a bungalow (joking) well it is less than 3 weeks, or you could stay for about 40 weeks in a OKW studio.

You sound like you have personal experience with these sort of numbers 😅 never knew there’s a max but I guess it was never a concern for me LOL

SSR refurb is excellent, some of the best rooms on property.
We love the walking and running in expansive grounds, it’s a real plus to us.
Pools are some of the nicest on property too.
The gym is possibly the best on property too, it’s massive. Another big plus for us.
I didn’t stay at SSR pre refurb last few years because of the rooms but I’m looking forward to getting there at Xmas post refurb. We stay in 1 beds and stay all over no issues. But SSR is back up there now post refurb.
The only thing it needs now is Turf Club gutting and a new restaurant and bar putting in and I’ve always said a nice outdoor restaurant/ bar like Geyser Point would be great, but I wonder if Disney has given up to some extent on really good eating and drinking there because you’ve got the best restaurants and bars on property just over in the Springs.

I didn't know there was an 8000 point limit either! Of course, they could still buy 10K at SSR, keep 8K and give me 2K for the helpful advice.
