Saw someone mention in a previous thread that they were not happy about the "small size" of the units at the new SSR.

I've been up one side of the internet and down the other and can't find ANY photos, plans, drawings, models, etc. for SSR, period.

If someone has some links with solid info, construction photos, etc., can you please share?

Thanks! :D

They will be the same size as VWL, BWV & BCV. Not as large as OKW, I doubt we will ever see that size again. The term "small rooms" is an often debated subject! ;)

Tiny rooms for sure. They are the same tiny rooms found at BWV, BCV and VWL. When the pullout sofa is out, it takes up the ENTIRE living room. The kitchens are almost useless and really right in the same room as the TV. At OKW you can actually have a few pwople in the kitchen while another group hangs out in the living room while the kids are at the dining room table while there are another seven or eight people out on the porch....you are all in one group, standing arm to arm in the other resort's tiny units.

The one and two bedroom villas at the BW are larger than those at the BC.

I have never had a problem with having enough space in either.

I've never tried to have a party in my villa. I don't think that's what they had in mind when they designed them.

The rooms are the same size as BWV, BCV & WLV. Yes, the 1 br in OKW is much larger than the 1 br in the other resorts, the studio and GV are essentially the same size. The 1 br at the other DVC resort are not tiny, they are a lot more luxourious and roomy than a room in any of the other deluxe resorts. Can you have.....

No, but the rooms are made for 4 and they definietly fit 4 people very comfortably. I sincerely doubt all the above stated people could fit in a 1 br at OKW either since they are have an occupancy limit of 4 but that is neither here nor there.
What BCV, BWV & WLV lacks in the size of the 1 br they certainly more than make up for it with a superior location, more deluxe resort amenities and a more upscale, deluxe atmopshere.
SS will not have the superior location as the other DVC resorts do but instead will be in the same location as OKW but without the larger 1 br, but will have full deluxe resort amenitites etc., it should be interesting to see how SS sales go.

But please consider that a 2BR at any DVC resort can sleep 6 in the bedrooms or up to 8 if you include the living room pull-out sofa.

It would be difficult for 6-8 people to be comfortable in the living room and kitchen at BWV, VWL, or BCV — but at OKW, the much larger living room, dining area, kitchen, and spacious balcony provide plenty of space for 6-8 people.

I don't want this to turn into a debate about OKW vs. the later on-site DVC resorts. It's just that when DVD announced a new DVC resort to replace the Disney Institute, there was speculation (or perhaps wishful thinking) on this board that the units would be more like those at OKW — especially because the new DVC resort would have a location similar to OKW and would not be attached to a deluxe hotel. That was followed by some disappointment when it was learned that SSR would have "small" rooms.

I have made this point before and I will make it again.....

I stayed at the Vistana once and its rooms were huge. If I chose my resort based on the size of the rooms, I guess I would be going back there. But that's not my primary reason to stay at a resort and I'm not going back there again. I will take being a boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom or a wlak away from MGM and EPCOT over more square footage in my room any day.

No one ever disbutes the fact that OKW has a much larger lr, kitchen and dr in the 1 br unit, so of course if you get a 2 br you also get the extra space since the 1 br is part of the unit!
What is not accurate are the gross exaggerations that are made about how "tiny" or "small" the other 1 br units are or how many "miles" or how "long" hallways etc are.
Yes, the 1 br are substantially smaller but they are not shoe boxes either! They are beautiful villas that are beautifully appointed and located on prime WDW real estate second to none.
I can understand the disappointment in SS room sizes because that is OKW's best feature and now SS does not even have that.
Many people gladly trade a larger unit for a much better and more convenient location, but to have SS/OKW location and smaller units.......

I've always been told that size didn't matter, it was how you used it.

Based on information from a number of sources, I believe these are the room sizes. Corrections are welcomed.

Room OKW VB HH BWV VWL BCV
Studio 390 375 455 359 356 356
1 Bdrm 1,005 880 856 712 727 719
2 Bdrm 1,410 1,265 1,311 1,071 1,083 1,075
GV 2,375 2,125 2,362 2,142 None None

Sorry it looked like I had it set up in easy to read columns, but when I post it the column settings go away.

I like the design of BCV better than OKW - I like the bench instead of all the chairs and I love the desk in the 1-bedroom - I also like the table being close to the kitchen area - you don't have to worry about small hands dropping something.

I don't know what the design of the SS will be - but so far with each new DVC resort - the design has gotten much better.

Yes it will smaller than OKW - but will you really notice - if they improve the design as much as they have done in the past - I seriously doubt it.

the problems selling it will be that it is not close to any of the parks - this was not a problem selling OKW because it was the only DVC resort at the time.

now the only people I would think would like this location better are young singles or couples w/o children to be close to Pleasure Island - but who knows I have been wrong before and will be wrong again. I guess people who love to shop at DD would also be on the list.

People fail to remember that BWV sales did not take off till OKW sold out. Seems that many more liked the comfort, cost and ease of OKW as opposed to the tiny units and location at BWV. I think SSR will have plenty of interest, I think it would be way better with OKW sized rooms.

When we bought BWV there was still plenty of availability at OKW. Our guide offered to take us over and show us around, we told him thanks but no thanks. To us the location was and still is far more important than the few extra square feet in the unit. We have several groups of friends that bought at around the same time that we did and felt the same way.

I first looked into DVC when it first opened and OKW was the only place opened. I was very interested in the whole DVC concept and considering how often we have always gone to WDW the savings on rooms was very appealing but I did not like OKW and I knew I would not be happy to stay there and since it was the only game in town at that time, DVC was not an option for me. I loved the size of the OKW1 br and still love the size of the 1 br but that is ALL that appeals to me at OKW. It is located just as far away from parks and restaurants as the moderate resorts are and has the same or less resort amenities available as a moderate resort has. Parking in front of each building matters not at all because when I do have a car I like to valet and the quiet atmosphere is a little too quiet for me--after 9:00 PM it is like walking in a ghost town. I was/am used to staying in all levels of WDW resorts and enjoy them all but when I pay money or pts to stay in a Deluxe resort, I am sorry but I want Deluxe resort locations and amenities! I knew I was not going to get this with a membership at OKW and I knew we would not be happy at that resort so I chose not to buy way back when OKW first opened and there was no BWV and there were plenty of OKW pts for the taking. So as far as the half baked theory that BWV did not really take off in sales until OKW was sold out---I don't think so! I was anxiously waiting for DVC to build BWV. Many people were very interested in DVC but wanted a more convenient location, a more deluxe, upscale resort so DVC built not only 1 but 3, so I am sure there was and still is a demand for these resorts.
In all honesty, if OKW was the only DVC resort available on WDW property, I would definietly not be a DVC member today. The difference in the room size does not even enter the picture for me when I compare what the other DVC resorts have to offer.

We've started to drift far from a discussion of the SSR room sizes. Please keep to the topic of the thread.

To answer the questions originally posted, DVC has not released any information as yet about the design, layout or size of the rooms at SSR. There have been a few artist renderings available, but no information about point charts.

There have been reports from those who have information from guides, but no official information has yet been released.

Here are some photos of the construction as of late May, 2003 (and a few of OKW also).

I would venture a guess that since the SSR looks like a hotel (straight lines and wings), rather than the buildings at OKW, that the rooms will be more like the other three resorts at WDW and therefore smaller to those who prefer the OKW rooms.

Just an observation: Seems that Disney has found a style it likes and is sticking to it. I can certainly understand why. As any retailer will tell you, it's all about efficient use of space. You use all available space for selling. They likely figured out that the 300+- sq ft extra in the OKW 1 brs, when taken away from 3, could net them one additional studio plus a little more......
