We are getting a Grand Villa at SSR in January.

I know that the villa is a two-story room. I was just wondering if handicapped accessible rooms have an elevator in the room so that the person who is handicapped can use the 2nd floor, or are they relegated mostly to the 1st floor?

I don't know about accessible rooms, but when I stayed in a SSR Grand Villa several years ago, there was a door to the outside on the upper floor. It wasn't marked with the room number on the outside, but it did open with my key. So in theory, someone could go from the lower level of the room to the elevator, then go up a floor and be on the upper level of the room. Not ideal, but possible.

I was aware of the door into the hall on the second floor, but was hoping that there was a better way to access the upper floor without having to leave the room and then go up a floor by the elevator which could be God knows where away from the room.

I will be staying in one of the rooms on the upper floor, so unless there is a better way, I will be spending a lot of time trying to figure out which floor I need to be on. Heaven help if I need something on one floor and I am on the other. There has to be a better solution than making someone leave their room to go up or down floors in their room. It won't be pretty running the halls in my jammies to try and go down for a midnight snack.

Well, I guess that I got my answer. I called the special reservations line and the answer I was told was that none of the Grand Villas at SSR is handicapped accessible, let alone having a elevator in the room. I was told that if I wanted a handicapped accessible room, then I would have to get a 1 bedroom and a 2 bedroom in order to accommodate our group. Not what we wanted! We reserved a Grand Villa so that all of us could stay together. Bad planning on Disney's part if this is true.

Don't know who you spoke with but they are wrong. We have stayed in a H/c GV at SSR several times with Dson. The master bedroom on the first floor has the roll in shower. To get to the second floor as stated above you need to leave the GV take the elevator and come in the door on the second floor. We always had Dson use the first floor bedroom. If you need all one floor H/C rooms you could try AKV and BWV. AKV H/C room was an amazing room. I want that bathroom in my house. The AKV patio is the lenght of the villa and amazing. SSR balcony was awful. Could not even get Dson out there. Susan

I will be at SSR from January 2nd-8th staying in a grand villa too! Maybe we will be neighbors :cool1:
