SSR Bus Service - Any better?

We are about to book another trip and wanted to stay at SSR again. We loved the resort and the pool was our favorite so far. However, we had a week of what was the worst bus service I'd ever experienced on WDW property. At the time, we were told that they were "testing" a new bus pattern and that there was a problem with off-property people parking in DD (where parking is free), and walking over to SSR and using the buses. We were staying at the Springs and many times, the buses were full by the time they got to us.

Anyone know if this bus issue has been remedied? We are considering booking a different DVC resort because of this... but we really like our home resort...

In terms of frequency, we found SSR's bus service in May to be good (15 minute wait or less) about 90% of the time. We stayed for 8 nights and used the busses every day (at least twice a day).

How full they got depended on time of day - but we stayed in Grandstand so we always got 1st pickup/dropoff. We always had a seat on the bus leaving SSR. There was only one time we had to stand on the way back from a park, and it was nice being the first drop-off at SSR.

The Springs is last bus stop at SSR, which means that during busier hours the busses can be pretty full by the time they reach that stop (which we saw).

The order of the bus stops at SSR is (from first to last):

  1. The Grandstand
  2. The Carousel
  3. The Paddock
  4. Congress Park
  5. The Springs

We were just there the 8th-14th. Some bus issues still, but most of the time it was fine. They are still working on it and after bad problems Sunday the 8th (hour waits) they had Transportation people at the bus stops tracking and timing the busses. It did seem to get better over the week. We had problems at DTD after dinner trying to catch a BC bus, so it's not just SSR. Our last trip in December bus service was much worse at BWV.

We were there the 18th through the 23rd of May and used the bus transportation as our only means of transport. Only once did we wait for 20 min, all other times were 10 minutes or less. We were in the Congress Park section. We too, had heard the reports of absurd wait times, but that was not our experience.:)

We are here here now and had the same concern. We could not be happier with the bus service for the last 4 days. We are staying in the Grandstand and have never waited longer than 10 min.

This is great news... Let's hope it continues!:thumbsup2

Hi,
I was at the BWV last week and I agree the service was horrible. I actually posted in mousecelleneous about it earlier. I hope it is getting better. We had long waits and buses arriving one after another to go to the same park. Of course not the one we needed. Always good in the past when we have stayed at other resorts. Our home resort is SSR and we have stayed at Congress Park with reliable bus service.

Sounds like some of the kinks are being worked out. When we were there, it was not just the wait at SSR to get a bus, but the SSR line going back to the resort from the parks was always the longest because the buses were less frequent.

You are making me feel much better about booking SSR again...

We stayed in the Springs Section June 1-June 7. Only used bus service and had 1 bus pass us up and two busses where we needed to stand, but plenty of room every other time. Waited 20 minutes or less every time except 1, going from Epcot home.

I was at SSR from Jun 5th to Jun 9th, I used the buses on the 5th trough the 8th. At normal high bus usage the buses were almost or got full at the Springs. I didn't notice larger number of folks getting on at Congress park. It just seemed about the same at each. It was just getting full. The walk over to Grandstand was not extremely long. At the very busy times you may want to try walking over to there. The full buses reminded me of OKW when the busses got to its last stop they were full too.

We stayed in The Grandstand last October and my husband and I still talk about it being the best bus service we ever encountered staying anywhere on WDW property. Grandstand was the first picked up and first to drop off and we always had a seat. We were also very close to the bus stop. We never waited more than 15 minutes at the most for a bus and they came frequently. Were were there the first week of October 2007. Our experience with staying at SSR(which was a complementary upgrade from CSR) is what convinced us to buy into DVC.

I just returned from SSR 6/11 - 6/16. I thought the bus service was fine. The longest I waited was approximately 15 minutes for a MK bus one afternoon. Every other bus passed once, so I probably just missed one to MK

Whenever the wait exceeded a few minutes I just pulled out my phone and starting playing the cell phone version of Zuma - guaranteed to pass the time!:lmao:

We did encounter one upset couple that had been waiting for an MK bus for about 45 minutes. We walked right up and got on the same bus they did. Go figure!

The waits leaving the parks were insignificant. I rarely stood. Wait a pleasure to not have the value resort (i.e. POP) bus lines.
