SSR and last year's points

If I understand this correctly, if I were to purchase for example 160 points at SSR, as an added incentive I would be given 160 2006 points as well. I'm a little confused, however, as to what exactly that means. Would I get 160 points from 2006 that I could bank and use them in 2007 or 2008? I I were to purchase we would probably not take our first DVC vacation until 2008 because I've already rented points and am going down in a couple of weeks. Would I have 320 points for 2008 if I banked the points given as an incentive? I hope I'm making sense, but I'm a little confused. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I believe if you purchased from Disney today you would have a December Use Year. You would get the current points (those from December 1, 2006) and you could bank them into your next use year. Your next Use Year would run from December 1, 2007 to Nov. 30, 2008.

So depending on when you want to travel during 2008 (as long as it is not during December 2008) you will be able to use your banked Dec. 2006 points, your current Dec. 2007 points and you could even borrow points from December 2009 if the 320 points was not enough.

Jim: Of course you are right. I'm a newbie to DVC myself, but my understanding is that Member Services will will use banked points first (if they can) for any reservation.

(The "if they can" tag just applies in limited situations...like if you had two different types of resort points in your account and you are making a reservation at 11 mos out you need to use the proper resort points, even if the you have banked points from the other resort. Others here could go into way more detail on all the exceptions to the rule tho')
