According to the DIS:

Starting on October 17, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resot & Spa can be booked as part of a 2008 land/sea vacation or as a pre-night for a 7 day cruise. The accommodations will be a 1 bedroom villa consisting of a king bed in the master bedroom and a queen size sleep sofa in the living room.

Is Disney sitting on a bunch of unsold SSR points, or are SSR owners using the Disney Collection more than other owners? Why so much availability at SSR that DCL can offer that as a package option?

FWIW, our first introduction to DVC was through DCL's Land/Sea package in Sept 1998. We were placed in a BWV studio ... but it wasn't through any special request on our part. I'm guessing the unit would be have been developer inventory at that time. We were invited (by phone? or a card left in our unit?) to take the "tour." ;)

As with all the resorts, it would still be subject to availability. I suppose it is so large that Disney expects they will always have good availability there - even if it's only from members who use points for something in the Disney, Concierge or Adventurer's Collections.

And we here don't know for sure if Disney always sends nights to CRO from the "trader's" home resort. Based on how they deposit to II, it sounds like they may choose SSR, HHI, & OKW more often than they choose BCV, VWL & BWV. FWIW, if that's what they do, I'm OK with it. IMHO, it would be great if they could avoid sending CRO the resorts, unit types & sizes and/or times more demanded by members.

Clearly they have excess inventory at SSR, mostly because it's still not sold out. And perhaps also because there are more SSR owners booking at other resorts than vice versa. I think the trade-outs would be a relatively small factor as people owning at other resorts do that too. Since trade-outs are a relatively small percentage of points used, it wouldn't make much difference unless SSR owners did a LOT more often than other DVC owners.

If they are using "traded points" that would be a win win - DVC members trade out to cruise DCL, DVC sells those points to CRO to pay for the cruise, CRO has a hard time selling the DVC points (given the amount of cash rooms that seem to be available). Make a DVC hotel a cruiseline hotel, and now you'll have people making that choice as part of their land sea. And it makes sense to choose the resort with the largest supply, since it will have the smallest impact on DVC members who want to switch around.

As long as they are booking within seven months, for them like for us "points is points" - so it could be VWL trading out, but Disney has statistical information that its pretty likely those VWL will get snapped up quicker at seven months than the SSR rooms - so plans bookings accordingly.

As these visitors would have daily housekeeping I hope this will not affect members housekeeping. We had to wait until 6.00 p.m to get our room in August and it had not been cleaned at all since the previous occupants had left. I thought it could have been the strain of all the upgraders during August and told the manager so. He did not disagee!!!
