Squished Penny Machines, an addiction?

Is there a list somewhere online of all the squished penny machines? I have heard there are hundreds of them. This might be a fun thing to try. Is it the type of thing people get addicted to?

Sure is!

494 options, to be exact.

And, you'd better hope that there isn't some sort of special edition like the 51 of them they released at DL for the 50th anniversary. I was like a mad woman with my list in hand running all over the parks while getting TWO SETS!

Thanks for the link, Hay Gan!

Very additictive. My DH, who never collects anything, insists on finding new ones every visit! The good news is, they're very portable.

I was addicted on a couple of trips, but my last visit I just gave up! The machines seem to move around or not be there at all and the quarters are pretty heavy to lug around. It is fun, but beware!! Most of the machines are in the souvie shops and the kids tend to want more than just a penny or two!

We're going in Nov and actually sat down a few weeks ago and went through our penny jar - we pulled out all the 1982 and before pennies - they were made differently and press better.

Funny thing is, I asked myself the same question a few weeks ago. I figured there might be 10 machines around WDW and we COULD get them all in one trip. - NOT!

I don't see getting, or even trying to get, all 494. But we have about 150 pennies we'll bring and we'll carry 10 or 20 each day and see what happens. If we get 10 or 20 for the whole trip, that'll be fine. DD5 loves 'em.

And no, I'm not carrying quarters. I'll ask for change at each location.

press on!

Good luck - I admit I'm addicted. I have 6 books from three trips - inevitably some machines are broken. I would advise having some quarters on you. Yes, they are heavy, but some are kind of in the middle of nowhere near change - like ones by the front desk at Caribbean Beach. I use the M&M tubes to carry my quarters and pennies and they're really convenient. Have fun!

ok, now I know I'm crazy...I can't believe someone actually listed all these on All Ears....we thought we had them all, but now I'm going to have to spend our next vacation comparing what we have to what is listed....another obsession!!! aargh!

I didn't realize that different pennies pressed differently! What kind of noticable difference is there?

We usually go through our change before a trip and pick out all the shiny pennies. They look so much nicer when they are shiny!

The pennies after 1982 have zinc(?). This sometimes causes a "streak" in the pressed penny.
If you google "elongated coin", you will get some interesting sites. You can also find tips on how to clean pennies. I tried Ketchup and it worked ok.

They have a different lead content ( I think it's that) but anyhow the are harder and hold a better detail of the press. your can always shine them later.

Another great tip is to use the MINI-M&M holders put 2 quarters and 1 penny and repeat they hold about 30 pressed ($15 in Quarters) when said and done and it makes it fast and easy when you hit the machine.

Don't forget the quarter presses as well.

Sort of a side note....how do you display your pennies? Does everyone store them in the books?

The first set DD did way back when I drilled holes in them and she put the on a chain like the tub drains or fan pulls. But now it's all about the books and when it's filled it's done.

Wow, Glad I asked. There seems to be alot of fun & planning involved in this. Maybe I shouldnt even start, I think my kids would get commando about it. I'll have to wait and see how they react when we just happen to see one. I will suggest getting one and then see if they get really into it or not. Thank you very much for the links and info you guys!

I think this is cute to get a couple, but spending 51 cents each time, seems kind of like a waste of money to me. I think I'ld rather shell out the $5.00 bucks in quarters for something else. These just get chucked into another junk drawer at home for our family...The "oh cool" lasts about 30 seconds....
