Is this going to affect any of you in NJ? :goodvibes My sister and I used to live not too far from Trenton (Lambertville, NJ and New Hope, PA), and we never had any squirrel offered to us. Of course my sister is a vegetarian.

TRENTON, N.J. - New Jersey has warned squirrel hunters near a toxic waste dump about consuming the critters because they could be contaminated with lead.

.......prompting the agency, along with the state Department of Environmental Protection, to send out letters advising that adults eat squirrel no more than twice a week and even less for children and pregnant women.

Oh sorry, I just posted this too!

I know this sounds silly.........who eats squirrel? But there are some hunters around here who will (who knows maybe it tastes just like chicken ;) ) And the squirrel was found in an area where are still some members of Indian tribes who hunt in those woods.

We must have seen the article at the same time. I thought I checked to see if it had been posted yet - too good to let go unposted.

I was probably checking the same time you were checking!

DH has relocated 29 squirrels from our backyard to an area near a river a mile away. He doesn't like the holes they dig to bury their peanuts. Another neighbor feeds them. He just spotted 3 more today. Oh well, at least it keeps him busy. :confused3

Personally, I think they're the same squirrels over and over again. Their just in it for the car ride. :teeth:

:lmao:

We have squirrel at least three times each week here in the wilderness of New Jersey - sautee them with some nice Jersey tomatoes - delicious, plus it cuts down on the grocery bill.

Read somewhere but don't know if true but anyway it says to take the squirrel at least 10 miles away or it can find it's way back. :confused3

I think they high-five each other at the river and decide who's coming back. Just like the commercial.

BTW, I read this to DH now he's thinking about taking them further away;)

I used to work with a guy who hunted squirrel. He and his wife had a boat load of kids--seven or eight I believe--and lived in a single-wide mobile home, trying to make ends meet on a short-order cooks wages. Lots more to that story, you wouldn't believe it if I told you, trust me, I couldn't make most of it up!

Anyhow, he used to hunt squirrel on his days off and cook them up in a stew to feed his brood.
