Spy Museum in DC

I am thinking about going to the Spy Museum. What is the best activity to do there? The ticket prices vary and I was just curious what is the best one to do.

I recommend getting your tickets or making reservations ahead of time. This museum gets very crowded and sometime even stops selling tickets early because of being sold out. They only let so many in at a time.

We were just there this past weekend. We just did the standard museum admission to start. Our family was two adults and DS12, and DS9. We all enjoyed it. There was a lot of variety for the enjoyment of all ages. We spent about 2 - 2.5 hours there. Other activity tickets had a lower age limit of 12, were pretty pricey, and we weren't sure we'd like the museum let alone some extra activity. The museum was fun and we all enjoyed it. I recommend getting there at opening at 9 am to avoid the crowds. Start with the regular museum admission. Perhaps others have done something extra and can comment on it.

Hi, I did the Operation Spy tour ~ 2years ago with my then DD12 and her friend. They thought it was the highlight of our DC trip. It's an interactive tour, an employee is the lead spy and you act as agents on a mission. You will search for clues and interrogate suspects. I don't want to give away too much information. It was a lot of fun and enjoyable for all ages. They were not running the other tours then so I can't comment on them. Like others have said buy your tickets in advance; they sell out. On our first visit to DC I did not buy in advance and we were unable to even tour the museum.

We took a group of girls to DC for a week and saw all the major attractions including the White House tour, which we worked on getting for almost a year.

When asked what their favorite things were: almost all of them said the Operation Spy tour we did -- and the day at Six Flags.

So much for history!

I totally recommend Operation Spy. It is extremely well done. We were making Disney comparisons the whole time. It was a top-notch experience worth every penny. The whole museum is a winner. I went into it kind of skeptical and expecting it to be some cheesy thing and was very pleasantly surprised.

I have been looking at things to do in DC also and the Spy Musuem keeps coming up. Does anyone know if the Operation Spy and Spy in the City are different? I can only find a description online for one, but there are ticket choices for each.

I went with my family in 2007. I wasn't overly impressed. While in DC this spring we went to the Newseum which I think is a much better value. Just my .02!

My four teens went in 2007 and loved it. I had little interest and took my 4 and 10 year old to the zoo.

This was the highlight of my kids trip in 2008 and we did the museums and white house tour too. They were 14 & 11 and thought it was great. I made reservations in advance and we did operation Spy. I personally did not like it and very expensive but it wasn't for me. I did enjoy looking at the exhibits. I didn't like they would not allow any photographs. We had lunch at the Hard Rock after we were done.
