Springtime Surprise Weekend (April 13-16, 2023)

I'm sticking with the space theme: Space Mountain 5k, Guardians 10k (or maybe 5 miler if they can figure out a map that works?), Galaxy's Edge for the longer distance (I'll go with 10 miles since that worked for this year's race).

Does anyone remember what the cost of the in person challenge was last year? Or have you seen this years' cost anywhere? Just trying to make sure I've got the gift cards to cover it.

$474.37 for the challenge

I loved that the challenge was all three races. I wish they would do that for all the run weekends. It made registration so much less stressful.

Then again every time I register everyone I have to re-enter all their information so maybe stress is the name of the game in Disney IT.

Is this the week we get themes?

I hope so! I finalized more of my plans for Wine & Dine and Marathon Weekend last week (booked hotel for W&D and return flight for MW) and spending actual money on these trips, coupled with the wait for themes, has falling out of love with the idea of doing Springtime Surprise as well. Of course, that could change in a heartbeat if the themes are amazing.

runDisney could go Marvel without interfering with the Universal Orlando ownership of some Marvel properties.
As folks have noted, some character families are not covered and can be used in the Parks. But, as I understand it, the covered families could still be used as long as they are outside the parks. I think this is why the Avengerail was on the Resort/Express beams, while the Tronorail was on the Epcot beam. At the very least, the existence of the Avengerail means there's some way to use those characters in WDW generally.

Promotional material for mcu can appear outside park (avenger rail, bus skins, billboards, springs) but not inside it

The only characters we can have in Florida are Doctor Strange though that might of been revoked, GoTG, Eternals…..

We MAY be able to use Shang Chi or moon knight but haven’t gotten official confirmation…. Also idk if when thunderbolts comes out if we will be cleared for them

Yeah, I really don't know what the term "attraction" means vis a vis a race. Is a race an attraction?

I really hope it's early next week! The theme will determine if we do this weekend. I hope I love it or hate it so it's an easy decision! I've got my sights on a non-Disney race vacation if I'm not crazy about the surprise!

I don't know if the theme is a deal breaker, but my wife and I really want to know about the disntances. We are running the half in January and think that it'd be fun if they had something like the 10 miler again. That distance wouldn't be too bad.

Same…. If it’s a 15K/10 miler for the longer distance and the theme is good I may consider doing the challenge since pirate pass is blocked out so I won’t be heavy on my legs park touring….if it’s a half (or longer) it’s a no go

On or before August 9th is my prediction based on princess theme drop
Really hoping it’s next week based on the fact that we know nothing about these races. For Princess you can at least bet on where you’re going to be running for all three races, meanwhile it seems feasible that the 5k of Springtime Surprise could be run in at least three of the four parks (excluding HS because I don’t think it’s never been done before but boy would that be a surprise). Honestly my decision on whether or not I’m going to do this depends less on the pure theme and more on where I expect to run.

Good point @fatmanatee -- there is also little predictability on timing of each race. Could be a 5K in the evening again, with a full day between races. That makes it hard to plan travvel. If I tack on the 5K to the end of a trip, as I'm doing for W&D, I can fly out that afternoon if the race is in the morning (and not need an additional hotel night). At least with a traditional race weekend, I can comfortably book my DVC at 11 months and plan for flights around early morning race times.
